Leider ist unsere Dragonfly zum Blauwassersegeln zu klein. Deshalb haben wir ein neues Boot. Einen Trimaran NEEL 51. Sie heißt SAN - chinesisch und japanisch für "Drei". Dieses Video zeigt die Anfangszeit vom Bau bis zur Wasserlassung.

Unfortunately our Dragonfly is too small for bluewater sailing. We now have a new boat, a Trimaran NEEL 51. She is called SAN - the chinese and japanese word for "Three". This video shows the boat from being built until it's first time in the water.

Thanks. We are very excited and are looking forward to the ARC+ this autumn. We are still sad about selling the Dragonfly, but the Neel has just so much more space.

What year is your Neel 51? Bought new or used?
We bought it new in 2019.

Congratulations on.an excellent boat.
Why did.you choose the less effective flat panels than for example.Sunpower? Was it only aesthetics? How much wattage can you.make out.of.them total?
A couple of reasons: Most importantly, the company doing the electrical installations for Neel would only do the Solbian panels and so we would have had to find somebody else to do this. We soon realised that going a different route than the standard one requires a lot of effort and so you pick your fights where you spend your energy in. We would have loved to use the flexible panels from Sunpower, which we had on our previous trimaran, but for the SAN, we spent out energy getting this large amount of solar panels to begin with - 3.43 kWp in the final stage. This will be more than the 17 kWh batteries can store. We have seen already more than 2kW pouring into the batteries… :)

@@birtefilms OK got you. That kind of sucks but sounds like common in the country it is built. I am seriously looking to order my 51 but will more than likely build some kind of arch on the transom and fit some sunpower panels there too as I have a randomly huge use of wattage. (Radio Amatuer). Did you go with a 5KW inverter or something bigger?

@@sm6wet 5KW inverter indeed. We also use radio and have more than enough power for all our needs...

Does Neel offer a documented CE rating for their boats?
It is CE for sure, but documented... hmmm, we did not ask...
Can you walk on those solar panels?
It is possible, but we usually avoid doing it.
