Very nicely explained, Kevin. I'm not sure what happened but UA-cam put Part 2 on my notifications, but not Part 1. When I have some free time (HA!), I'm going to go to your channel's home and see what else I've missed. Thanks for sharing.

I learned to fret from watching Dan Erlwine videos that I bought from Stew 20 plus years ago. I've said in videos that I learned from Dan and people thought I apprenticed under him. I learned the bent fret trick from him as well as the non sq comers under the fret wire. I've thought about trying to explain this in the comments when people say filing is just for ease of inserting or to prevent chip out when re-fretting. I think we are very much on the same page fretting wise. Sorry to go on, good video as always Kevin.

I feel honored to be even mentioned in the same paragraph with Dan Erlewine. Feels good. Thank You:)

Great video! Love your explanations. You mentioned that you sometimes use glue when inserting frets, but not always. How do you decide whether or not to use glue on a given fretboard?

I use old hoof nippers for cutting stainless steel frets.

I may do a short video on the one already shown, but I'm also contemplating a video on making one from materials and components readily available from any hardware or home center. The latter might be a little more challenging:)

! i've enjoyed and appreciated every Video on this Channel, but how to measure and cut the initial Slots is what really interests me; is there a "Fretting part zero" Video?!?

I have a couple of fretting questions. First, what is your go-to fret crowning file? Second, I have an older banjo. The fret slots are wallered out to where they don't really hold a fret. Aside from replacing the fretboard, is there a way to refret it where the frets will stay in?
