YES! My school was renovated in 2009. On top of larger rooms, we got beautiful rich wooden built-ins. You can see them in my classroom setup videos! the storage is incredible!
For that bin you could do "WW2" or you could do "Genocide Awareness" or "Human Rights Awareness" and you can lump in other books like "First they Killed My Father" and "The Breadwinner" etc. Love your videos!!

You could label the bin War Stories, that way it’s pretty general and you can put any other stories that revolve around other wars and battles in there too :)

To organize the books to bins look into different small stickers. Have historical books have 1 sticker shape with different colors for different bins and fiction books another shape and color and so on and so forth.....

I’m starting my freshman year of highschool and I’m so nervous because I’m moving at the same time and I have a lot of upper level classes. Do you have any tips for time management and organization?
itsgamergirl 1.have a “homework” folder where you put all of your assignments for the day as you go through your classes so you don’t have to bring like 5 binders home or forget them. 2. do your hardest assignments first so they’ll only get easier and you won’t quit. 3. If you’re in clubs or sports use a calendar app for dates so they aren’t filling up your brain

I’m enjoying watching your classroom setup. I’m a middle grades ELA teacher too. This will be my 21st year. I’m enjoying your enthusiasm and joy for teaching. It’s inspiring. Suggested title for book bin: over coming obstacles or historical fictions. I’ve found it helpful to organize my books similar to the system used in the media center. Alphabetical by author’s last name and Dewey System for non-fiction books. I would suggest plastic shoe box bins for the supplies like markers, scissors and glue sticks. It makes it easy to identify what is in the box and kids drop them all the time , so the top will keep them from going everywhere. The brown crate would be great to store some of those supplies.

You could use the picture hanging velcro command strips to secure that sign over the library! The bins make it look so much better!!

For your sign above your books, hot glue it to the base and the little piece of wood behind it. With students, the bookshelf could get bumped by accident and then in comes crashing down on whoever is there. That could be very dangerous and a situation you don't want to deal with. If it were me, I'd also put a 1/2 inch screw hook into the back and in the wall and then run fishing line between the two, just to make sure.
For the Holocaust book bin, I would label it Holocaust/WWII history novels (Children of Willesden Lane isn't necessarily Holocaust, but I would put it in the same bin since it is the same timeframe/historical struggle.)
Be sure to keep a locking cabinet or file cabinet in which to keep testing materials secured during state testing. Also student files especially for special education ( FERPA)
Hey Cheyenne, you're doing great stepping into the middle school teacher role and bless you for that since you've noted it wasn't planned but I think you're going to do well since you're dedicated! Your bk wall is truly coming to fruition w/ fantasy/sci fi and nice touch w/ classics too! If you want to consider other bks to have in your library: I admit as someone who teaches secondary English & History, I'm partial to the fantasy classics "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" which has its 120th anniversary this year, as well as its sequels "The Road to Oz", and "The Emerald City of Oz" w/ their historic female lead Dorothy Gale and unique ruler Princess Ozma.

I use Pocketful of Primary’s and change it a little to my needs. It is clean, simple and the kids know how to function quickly & correctly with those. Just a suggestions.

Petite Primary check her’s out then they are not expensive either and I have used them with Kinder, First, 4th and 5th graders so I’m sure they will work for your room!!!

“Holocaust History” or “Holocaust and Genocides”
I just found your channel/this series & I'm so excited to follow along because I'm starting to set up my own classroom too♡ I'm actually going in today for the 1st time since May & moving into a new classroom so I'm going to post my own journey as well on my channel, hopefully by tomorrow!!~ It's been an intimating task that I've been anxious about all summer because of all the unknowns & changes so hopefully videos like ours can help other fellow teachers out as it's nice to get inspiration & support from people who can relate! It'll be my 2nd year teaching & I teach 3rd grade~ what about you/anyone else?? Other than changing my seating chart to be more socially distanced & getting rid of items that can't be easily sanitized like rugs + pillows & adding distanced line/floor spots throughout my room, what other ideas do you/anyone else have for trying to make a classroom as safe as possible for our kiddos? I've always prioritized making kids FEEL safe, comfortable, & welcomed so it'll hopefully not be too challenging to also focus on making sure they are actually safe this year! A super easy way that I love for bulletin boards is to measure and cut it first and then put it up on the board and secure with push pins before stapling. I have always done bulletin boards myself and this is the best way for me!

Hello! I'm also a first year 6th grade teacher. I think you could name the book bin World War II or just World Wars? Maybe add other historical books to it as well. Also maybe utilize the top 2 corners for the rest of the books you won't use often, more out if the way. I do like the old text books on the bottom. Good idea!
You can title that bin as historical fiction/non-fiction and include any other novels or books that highlight other historical events or time periods. That sort of gives you some flexibility with the bin :)

WWII historical fiction. If you have 6th graders, I recommend Alan Gratz! My kids LOVE his WWII books!

You could label the bin “Historical Stories”, “History-based books”, or “Historical Memoirs”. That will leave you some room to add other books to that bin as well. Welcome to the teaching family! Congratulations and good luck with everything!

So, I love the way the sterlite containers look on your bookshelves. But one of my past teachers had those also and they broke SO often and she was always having to replace them. For example, if students grabbed all the books from the back of one container, and only one was left then the container fell and broke. They look amazing I’m just saying my past teachers have had them before and they break fairly easy, just a lil FYI.

I think some districts are not allowing the sharing of books or any items during the pandemic. The virus can stay on cardboard for about 2 days.

For any papers you don’t need/won’t use, you can use them for projects or if your students are going to paint you can lay down those papers so you don’t have to clean after, you can just throw away the paper

The non used books can be on the top shelf because its harder to reach
just a little tip for the bulletin boards- you could cover them in fabric it will last longer and it won't rip!

You could use the black shelf thing for the paper towels and tissues that are extra and for the book bin World War ll
Don’t be too specific with your book categories! Just do things like “historical fiction” and “books about animals” and “sci-fi”

Michelle at Pocketful of Primary (UA-cam & TpT) has a really great book organizing system with bin & book labels. She also has a editable label product that’s only $15 & includes 300 (or maybe 500) different images for like $15 I believe & because it is black & white it’s very clean & crisp and can be used for all ages.
She had a recent video going over how she organizes her books & uses her labels.
Also, curious, why wouldn’t you use dictionaries & thesauruses in your classroom??

Just a suggestion...maybe print out a couple of additional affirmations to put on either side of the mirror so that the damaged spot on the wall next to the cabinet will end up being covered up. For the paper towels, what if you put up a small curtain in one of the cabinet spots? Like in the wall with all the small cubby places, covering one side and hide paper towels and on the other side have curtains and have like hand sanitizer with anything else you need if you need to leave the classroom with the students? I don’t know just a though ☺️

For your Book organisers, I highly recommend you watch Pocketful of primary. She has an how i organise my books tutorial. she also has something on her TPT for the book organise
My first year teaching was in 6th grade as well and I’m the same height as you- thankfully more we’re at my height than taller😂. My first classroom was so similar to yours in terms of how much was left behind from the previous teacher. The previous teacher left old materials, student work, and even left her professional binder with her certificate in it! Even found a used coffee mug...
Book labels suggestion... this took me some time but students have such an easier time finding and returning books this way. I used colored dot stickers (like for yard sales) and stickered each book to match the bin. For example, Hunger Games series is Blue #1, so each of those books had a blue sticker with a 1 on it. The label on the bin had the matching sticker! I hope that makes sense!

This is kinda random but have you tried the 'curly girl method' and finding out what type of hair texture you have. I have 2b so I know some parts are straight while other curl so it can be confusing. You said to ignore the frizz and I was but at the end of video I saw some waves in your hair and I just had to ask. Am sorry sorry if this was insulating in any way I did not mean to do that. This is a bit broader, but you could label that bin (with the Anne Frank book etc.) as "Historical Fiction" or ""Historical Fiction/Memoirs". Since it's broader, it'll be easier to fit those extra books you come across that don't fit into any other section, but may have some historical relevance, or is a bio about someone. Btw, love your channel! Hope classroom setup gets easier with time :)
