Now this is what you call a real tutorial, this was very helpful. I usually go to a tax professional every year and every time I go it's more expensive. This walkthrough really gave me extra confidence to file on my own considering I always have a simple return. I love your teaching style by the way. Thank you so much, God bless you 👑🙏🏾
[2:17 PM PST] @SaintOres.com Thanks Dral22, Now that's what you call a real comment.... I'm glad the video helped. Good luck on doing your taxes and I'll get back to doing the stack of tax returns on my desk.
thank you! I am 21 and finally doing this on my own for the first time, my mom normally takes me to have some man do it for us but thats 300, I know I can do it on my own.
I just did my own tax return for 2023 with FreeTaxUSA, yes, I found great return!!! But for state, they charge $15 approx. anyway, thanks for showing all and it encouraged me.
Thanks Mohammed. Glad you got it done. Yes, that's how they make their money, by charging for the state return. So it's $14.99 if you have to file a state tax return. There are a few states with do not require a state tax return.
Hey Katie I already filed tax this year but I saw your video today so I’m thinking about I can do tax file myself i paid $150 for someone else only for tax file if I do myself I will save money and time I will do myself this year thank you for best information I loved it 😊
[11:38 AM PST] @SaintOres.com Hello Lalit, I was surprised how good these online tax apps are for filing your taxes. So save yourself a little money and spend it at the new The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Hello Lovely May, Thanks for the nice words. I will be doing tax videos for this season but probably not for FreeTaxUSA. Last year they asked me to do a video and for whatever reason, they did not contact me this year. Good luck and thanks again.
Taxpayer lived with grand father in Newyork and he worked Home care family in Grandfather what should I do file and home care waiver received in taxpayer
Sorry. I only did a version for a person filing single. I was going to do a video on each filing status but the process didn't change that much. Next year I'll do a video for single and for dependents.
I have a long depreciation schedule (Sole Proprietor) going back many years which Turbo Tax tracks in case I need to recapture depreciation. Can I enter this table into FreeTaxUSA?
Hello Wings, FreeTaxUSA offers a section for entering depreciation details for each asset. You can input the asset information, cost basis, depreciation method, and useful life. The program will then calculate the annual depreciation based on your inputs. However, manually entering a long history of data for each asset can be time-consuming and prone to errors. OR If you're comfortable with summarizing your depreciation information, they allow you to enter the total depreciation claimed for the current year and the total accumulated depreciation for all assets. This can be a quicker approach for a long history. You might also want to see if FreeTaxUSA has a help section on this.
At around 10:25 it talks about 1099. I see that there is a different section for 1099-INT and 1099-DIV to get "started". I checked my tax documents from Fidelity and I have 1 PDF file. Inside has both 1099-INT and 1099-DIV information. Do I have to upload the same PDF file to both 1099-INT section and the 1099-DIV section? How should I proceed here?
Hello Stanley, Just put your information in by hand. You will not save time by uploading from a PDF because you will need to review and check all the transported data for accuracy.
Thanks for asking that question! I scrolled comments hoping to find it. Googling that question proved ridiculously futile. I was given everything BUT a simple yes-or-no answer. Thanks again!
11:46am PST SaintOres.com Hello Taxman fan, You do not have to fill it out in one sitting. It could take you two or three playthroughs of the White Album.
@@KatieStOresCFPChFCEA Hey Katie...unless you prefer "Jude". I dig your Beatles references! "Revolver" and "Abbey Road" are virtually tied on my list. One is #1, the other #1a. Anyway, I just finished my taxes and it did not take a "Long Long Long" time. (One of their most under-rated songs)! Your video was succinct, well-paced and I appreciated the dry, non-frivolous approach. Thank you, and as Ringo says: "Peace and love."
Awesome tutorial really considering doing everything on my own this year, however I have one question. For filing this year what would I mark for the amount I have paid in Tithes for church? Previous years I've given the amount to my local tax professional just wanted to know where to insert on this program. Thank you!
Hello Nicholas, Congrats on doing your own taxes this year. Understanding the Form 1040 is very important. For Tithing, charitable contributions will go to Schedule A, Line 11 (Click on the "Forms" tab in the left-hand menu. Scroll down to the "Federal" section. Locate and click on "Schedule A".)
Hi Katie, is it possible to enter two or more schedule C in freetaxusa? Also, if I receive five 1099-k from eBay can I consolidate them in just one schedule C because it's the same activity, just different categories of collectibles. Thank you!!
Hello Mangia, Yes to both questions. You can enter two Schedule C forms into FreeTaxUSA for your self-employed income from two separate businesses. Here's how: You can search for "Schedule C" within the software or navigate to the section for self-employed income. There should be an option to "Add Another Business" or similar wording to create a second Schedule C for your other business.
Hi Katie, Thanks for much for your useful video. Do you have a specific Tutorial by step to file as an E-commerce reseller like Poshmark for FreeTaxUSA as well? I m totally new and really confused about how to file it. Thx in advance.
Hello Wantana, You have until April 18th this year, so don't panic... You'll need a schedule C. Here's the link ua-cam.com/video/3E7uX6XBblg/v-deo.html Poshmark provides sellers with an annual sales report, which includes information that can be used to help prepare your Schedule C. The Poshmark sales report contains the total amount of sales made on the platform, as well as the fees and commissions charged by Poshmark. You can use this information to calculate your gross income, expenses, and net profit. You will need to enter this information into your FreeTaxUSA tax preparation software It's important to keep in mind that as a seller on Poshmark, you are responsible for accurately reporting your income and expenses on your tax return. If you are unsure about how to report your Poshmark income, or if you have questions about the tax implications of selling on the platform, it's recommended that you consult a tax professional for guidance.
thanks ... can I ask more question pls if I am separated but my spouse is not American or work in the USA so how can I put his social security number? Can I change to Single instead?
If your spouse does not have a Social Security number, you cannot enter their Social Security number on your tax return. However, you still have to indicate your marital status on your tax return. If you are legally separated, you can file as "Married Filing Separately" and enter your spouse's name on your tax return. If your spouse does not have a Social Security number, you can enter "NRA" (Non-Resident Alien) in the space where their Social Security number would normally go. Alternatively, if you meet the IRS requirements, you may be eligible to file as "Head of Household" or "Single" instead. To file as "Head of Household," you must be unmarried, pay more than half the cost of keeping up a home for yourself and a qualifying dependent, and your spouse must not have lived with you for the last six months of the tax year. If you don't have a qualifying dependent, you may be able to file as "Single" instead. If you're unsure which filing status is best for you, you may want to consult a tax professional or software to help determine the most appropriate filing status for your situation.
Hello ! How quickly is the return received if chose to do so by direct deposit ? I know of some tax software that try to upswell you to give you the option of getting your refund faster via direct deposit
[1:51pm PST] @SaintOres.com Hello A Lon Drah, The speed at which you receive your tax refund via direct deposit depends on several factors, including when you filed your tax return, how accurate your tax return is, and how quickly the IRS processes your return. Generally, if you e-file your tax return and opt for direct deposit, you can expect to receive your refund within three weeks. However, it's important to note that the IRS may take longer to process your return during periods of high volume or if there are errors on your return. If you filed a paper return, it may take up to six weeks to receive your refund via direct deposit.
Hello DC Films, If you are referring to employee business expenses, then you won't be able to deduct those until 2026 unless you are an Armed Forces reservist, fee-basis state or local government official, performing artist, or have impairment-related work expenses.
Excellent tutorial, but I have a few questions, please? Is e-file through this website or do you need to go to the e-file website and pay them? Also, I'm not sure which package I need. The basic version gives you access to tax preparers, but the pro version gives you more? And if you don't get the defender version and you mess up are you on your own with the IRS. Thanks.
Hello MacMan, Yes, e-file is available through FreeTaxUSA. You can e-file your federal tax return using their website. Regarding the packages, the Basic version of FreeTaxUSA is suitable for most individual taxpayers who have a simple tax situation. It allows you to prepare and file your federal tax return for free, and it also includes basic customer support. The Pro version of FreeTaxUSA (NOT Free) offers more advanced features, including access to tax professionals who can help answer your tax-related questions. It also includes audit assistance and priority customer support. The Defender version of FreeTaxUSA offers additional protection in case of an audit or other issues with the IRS. It includes audit defense services, identity theft restoration services, and priority customer support. If you make an error on your tax return and you do not purchase audit defense services or the Defender version, you will be responsible for resolving any issues with the IRS on your own. However, the IRS does offer resources to help taxpayers correct errors on their returns, and you can also seek assistance from a tax professional or a tax advocacy organization.
@@KatieStOresCFPChFCEA Thank you! So is the defender in addition to the pro or is it included with pro. And can you e-file state from their site for the 15 dollars.
Yes... if you live in a state that requires a state tax return, it's $14.99. There is a pro version for professional tax preparers. I'm not too sure what is offered for them. I think you might be wondering about the other add-ons. FreeTaxUSA offers both a Deluxe and a Premium version of their tax filing software. The Defender feature is included with the Premium version, but it is not included with the Deluxe version. So if you want to use the Defender feature, you would need to upgrade to the Premium version of FreeTaxUSA. You might want to get in touch with them to confirm all this since I don't work for them. Remember, the tax deadline is April 18th this year.
Hello ReMiFa, You should file for a loss on stock trades on your tax return in the year in which you sell the stocks at a loss. You can claim up to $3,000 of capital losses on your tax return each year. ($1,500 if you are single) If your losses exceed $3,000, you can carry the excess losses forward to future years. To claim a loss on your tax return, you will need to file Form 8949 and Schedule D. Form 8949 will show the date on which you sold the stocks, the price at which you sold them, and the amount of the loss. Schedule D will show your capital gains and losses for the year. If you have any questions about claiming a loss on your tax return, you should consult with a tax professional.
I've watch entire video but my question where to input the direct deposit information like Banking Routing. The Refund portion of 1040 line 35 a and b. There is no way to input that onto the site with Freetaxusa. Taxact and turbo tax you can directly input it. Any ideas thanks.
Hello Yang, To input your direct deposit information using FreeTaxUSA, please try the follow these steps: Log in to your FreeTaxUSA account and select the tax return you want to work on. Click on the "Federal Taxes" tab on the left side of the screen. Scroll down to the "Direct Deposit" section and click on "Edit". Enter your bank routing number and account number in the appropriate fields. Double-check the information to ensure it is accurate. Click "Save" to update your direct deposit information.
[4:31pm PST] @SaintOres.com Gracias Ro, espero que mi hija haga el próximo video de W4 en español. Solo sé un par de palabras, pero ella habla con fluidez. I hope that translates okay.
[09:41am PST] @SaintOres.com Hello Tariq, I have a video on how to complete your Schedule C for the sole proprietor. For a disregarded entity LLC, you have to complete the same form.ua-cam.com/video/3E7uX6XBblg/v-deo.html
Thanks katie for your reply. But I came to know that we need to prepare only 5472 and 1120 Pro forma. If we have Single Member Disregarded Entity. So I am confused can you please confirm and make a video on this topic ? And I don't have ITIN.
[12:05pm PST] @SaintOres.com Hey Tariq, Form 1120 is used to report the income, deductions, credits and to figure out the income tax liability of a Corporation, not for a single member disregarded entity. Corporate tax returns are complex, especially those that include Form 5472; I highly recommend you hire a tax accountant.
[3:33pm PST] @SaintOres.com Hello Justin, This link contains supported tax forms for NY. www.freetaxusa.com/states/new_york.jsp You can also email their Customer Support at support@support.freetaxusa.com. They are very helpful.
Hello Jarod, That's a great suggestion and I'll definitely film a video on that after tax season. Maybe I'll combine it with loggers or landscapers since they have a lot of equipment and I prepare taxes for a bunch of them.
Just curious, why is it that some tax software ask to input the TIN (Payer's ID number) from the 1099-INT or DIV form, however Freetaxusa does not. Is it really required?
Hello Pulido, They do not require you to enter your TIN if you are filing a federal return only. However, if you are filing a state return, you may be required to enter your TIN. You can check with your state's tax agency to see if this is the case.
Hello Amanda, You can claim deductions for mileage on your personal tax return for business, medical, and charitable purposes. Keep a log of the miles driven, including the date, starting and ending odometer readings, purpose of the trip, and organization name. Commuting expenses are not deductible.
I do know I need to pay for some state and federal taxes and how exactly would that work, I ended up on the same screen as you and it just says to pay to file them, do I send money to the personally or how does that work?
Hello Dorian, To pay your federal taxes using FreeTaxUSA, you can follow these steps: Log in to your FreeTaxUSA account. Click on the "IRS Payments" link located in the left-hand sidebar. Choose the tax year you want to make a payment for. Select "Make a Payment" and then select "Federal Taxes." Enter the amount you want to pay and select the payment type (such as direct debit or credit card). Enter your payment information, including your bank account or credit card details. Review your payment details and then submit your payment. After submitting your payment, you will receive a confirmation email from FreeTaxUSA. Keep in mind that you should also verify with the IRS that your payment has been processed and received.
Hello TE S, You have the option of paying the IRS through FreeTaxUSA or going to the IRS.gov and paying there. I think you pay using a third party app at IRS.gov.
I assume if I am not adding any options, that I don't require entering credit card information? I'm confused how the option of using my refund to pay, since you provide the banking info to the IRS, that assumes freetaxusa is intercepting this money transfer to/from your bank account.
Hello Morrolan, I do not work for FreeTaxUSA but I think they watch the comments section here so hopefully they will chime in if my response is not accurate. No, you do not need to enter your credit card information if you are not opting to pay or purchase any additional services from FreeTaxUSA. The company will only withdraw the amount that is needed to pay the IRS. The option of using your refund to pay is a convenience feature that FreeTaxUSA offers to taxpayers who would like to avoid having to make an upfront payment. When you choose this option, FreeTaxUSA will withdraw the amount of your IRS payment directly from your bank account. This means that you do not need to worry about sending a check or making a wire transfer. FreeTaxUSA does not intercept your refund money. The company simply facilitates the transfer of money from your bank account to the IRS. This is a secure and convenient way to pay your taxes. If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact FreeTaxUSA customer support.
@@KatieStOresCFPChFCEA Thank you. But you provide your routing/bank account # to the IRS. They then take out what you owe, or send the refund. Having a middle man in the middle makes no sense at all to me.
Hello Bryan, Yes, there is a section in FreeTaxUSA for attaching supporting documents for dependents. When entering information for a dependent, there is an option to upload documents such as a birth certificate or Social Security card to verify their identity and relationship to the taxpayer. To access this feature, navigate to the "Dependents" section of the tax return and click on the "Edit" button for the specific dependent you need to attach documents for. Then, click on the "Upload Documents" button and follow the prompts to attach the necessary files.
Either one is good. They give accurate results and you can do your taxes for free as long as they are not too complicated. But you have to put up with a bunch of requests for add-ons with each.
[10:48 AM PST] @SaintOres.com Hello TheAuuuMan, You should be able to attach additional PDFs to your tax return. Please, contact FreetaxUSA customer support. They will be able to help you. Good luck!
Hi Nathan, It's good that you caught this, even if it was after filing your tax return. Here are your options: 1. File an amended return (Form 1040-X): This is the most recommended course of action. You can file Form 1040-X to report the additional income and any additional tax you owe. The IRS generally prefers amended returns to be filed within three years of your original filing date. 2. Wait for the IRS to catch the mistake: The IRS receives income information from various sources, including employers and financial institutions. They may eventually identify the missing income and send you a notice requesting additional tax and penalties. This is generally NOT ideal, as it can lead to higher penalties and interest charges.
Hello Fernando, FreeTaxUSA supports the preparation and filing of federal tax returns for non-resident aliens who have received income from U.S. sources, including H-2B workers. ***However, please note that FreeTaxUSA does not provide specific guidance or advice for H-2B visa holders, so it's important to have a good understanding of the tax rules and requirements that apply to your individual situation. As an H-2B worker, you will generally be subject to U.S. income tax on the income you earn while working in the United States. You may also be required to file a state tax return if you worked in a state that has an income tax. When preparing your tax return, be sure to carefully review the instructions and requirements for non-resident aliens to ensure that you are reporting your income and deductions correctly. You may also want to consider consulting with a tax professional who is familiar with the unique tax issues facing H-2B visa holders to ensure that you are taking advantage of any available deductions or credits and complying with all applicable tax laws.
hi i am filing my taxes for the first time right now and the employer state ID nor is box 13 OR 14 filled out on my W2. do i just leave those spaces blank or am i supposed to fill them with something?
Hello Zawnbi, No, you don't fill in any missing boxes on your W-2. If your employer state ID is blank, you probably live without a state income tax. Boxes 13 and 14 could be blank; that is common.
[10:48 AM PST] @SaintOres.com Hello Khai, You would report these transactions and calculate capital gain or loss on Form 8949, Sales and Other Dispositions of Capital Assets, then summarize capital gains and deductible capital losses on Schedule D (Form 1040), Capital Gains and Losses.
Hi, thank you this video. I became US resident together with my wife and 2 children from June 2023. But we have seen returned to Europe where I am currently finalizing my studies as employed Researcher. Please, what forms should i fill online for foreign tax credit for married filling jointly? Thanks
Mon 1:56 PM Hello Babanzarah, As a US resident married filing jointly, you can claim the foreign tax credit for taxes paid to a foreign country on income earned in that country. To do this, you must file Form 1116, "Foreign Tax Credit (Individual, Estate, Trust, or Nonresident Alien Fiduciary)." In addition to Form 1116, you may need to file Forms: 1040, 2555, 8938. The specific forms you need to file will depend on your individual circumstances.
Hello Baban, Foreign earned income exclusion is generally best for taxpayers whose income is earned in a low or no-income tax country. It will allow them to shield up to $120,000 (2023 figure) from U.S. taxation, while the Foreign Tax Credit would have little or no benefit since they are in a low- or no-income tax country.
Hi Kadi, My broker charged me stock hard to borrow fee of $6000 , I spoke to my broker and finally refund the $6000 back to my account. Now received from my broker 1099B that has the $6000 refund money as MISC income of $6000. Actually I do not have any income wort of $6000. How to resolve the issue in Turbo tax and where to enter. My broker said the Tax Pro can offset you MISC income to $0. Please let me know how to offset the MISC income.
Hello Raj, I'm a little confused. You commented under the FreeTaxUSA video, then you mentioned using TurboTax, and then TaxPro. Three different software packages. Here are the steps to enter the adjustment in FreeTaxUSA: Log in to your FreeTaxUSA account and navigate to your tax return. Click on "Income" in the left-hand menu and then select "Miscellaneous Income." Click on "Add a Form 1099-MISC" and enter the information as it appears on your 1099-B. Enter the amount as a negative number in the "Income" column. This will offset the miscellaneous income reported on your 1099-B. Continue through the rest of your tax return as usual. Note that if you're unsure about how to properly report the refund on your tax return, it may be a good idea to consult a tax professional or use FreeTaxUSA's guidance tools to ensure that you're accurately reporting your income and any adjustments.
Hello Krishell, Here's what you do to amend your tax return using FreeTaxUSA: Log in to your FreeTaxUSA account. Click on the "Amend Return" button on the left-hand side of the screen. Choose the tax year you want to amend and click "Continue." Follow the instructions to make the necessary changes to your return. You can add, delete or change the information on your return. Once you have made the necessary changes, review your amended return and make sure everything is correct. Click "File Amended Return" to submit your amended return to the IRS. Pay any additional taxes owed, if needed. THEN... FreeTaxUSA will generate Form 1040X for you automatically. You can download and print this form to mail it to the IRS. If you owe additional taxes, you can pay them electronically using FreeTaxUSA or by mailing a check with your amended return. Note that you can only amend your return using FreeTaxUSA if you originally filed your tax return with FreeTaxUSA. If you filed your original tax return with a different tax preparation service or on paper, you will need to amend your return directly with the IRS.
Hello Tariq, Per the FreetaxUSA webpage, your 2022 AGI must be less than $41,000 for Free federal and state tax filing or less than $73,000 if you were in the military on active duty.

Taxpayer had home care his grandfather and lived together his house.Taxpayer w-2 income 22500 for home care and full time Student in Newyork .My question what’s file status and he received in home care waivers or not for Scheduling 1 in other income?

Can I file my tax return from my full-time job and my side food vending business all at once with free tax usa? I know it won't be free because of my side business. Thank you.
[10:35am PST] @SaintOres.com Hello ilc1234, Yes, you can file your federal income tax return (Form 1040) and Schedule C (for your vending side job) simultaneously.
[1:27 PM PST] @SaintOres.com Hello Raygan, If you already e-filed your tax return, you won't be able to change your bank and routing number for your tax refund. You can only request that the IRS issue you a check - and that's only if the return has not yet been processed. Otherwise, go to the banking info input field and change it.
Hello Natali, If you're using FreeTaxUSA to file your taxes and you've moved from Illinois to Florida during the tax year, you'll need to indicate this change of address in your tax return. Here's how you can do it: Log in to your FreeTaxUSA account and start a new tax return or continue with your existing one. Go to the "My Info" tab and click on "Personal Information". Under the "Address" section, enter your new Florida address and click on the "Save" button. You'll see a pop-up message asking if you've moved from another state during the tax year. Select "Yes" and click on "Continue". Enter the information about your previous Illinois address, including the street address, city, state, and ZIP code. FreeTaxUSA will automatically generate a part-year resident tax return for each state you lived in during the tax year. Make sure to review your return carefully to ensure all information is accurate and complete before filing. If you need further assistance with this process, you can contact FreeTaxUSA customer support for guidance.

3:46pm PST SaintOres.com Hello again Mohammad, You only have to do your Federal income tax since there is no income tax return for TX and the same for NV. Go thru the steps and add the second W-2 information after you enter the first W-2.
Can I only file state returns but not file federal? My earnings are under the minimum required to file federal and No taxes were deducted for federal. I do have state tax deducted so I would like to claim that. I am in Minnesota. Thanks in advance..
Hello Cy a, Yes, you can. Only you will need to mail in your state return, can't do e-file. And say hi to all my relatives in Wisconsin and Minnesota for me.
[4:57pm PST] @SaintOres.com Hello Dave, You don't have to upload the tax documents if you want to enter everything manually. I did it manually and found it to be faster. The program asked me once per grouping.
@Katie St Ores CFP, ChFC, EA Alright. Btw there's an abbreviation in my employer name in the w2, the IRS won't have trouble with it if I type it exactly as it is?
Hello, my question is a baby was born and deceased in 2023 with no social security number given just the death certificate. On the dependent screen how can I get pass the screen w/out the social number? Thank you
Hello Melissa, I am very sorry for you having to ask this question. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) allows you to claim this dependent. Here's what to do: Use "DIED" instead of SSN: In the field where the Social Security number is typically entered, type "DIED" in all caps. Attach Documentation: The IRS requires proof that the child was born alive to claim them as a dependent. You can attach a copy of the child's birth certificate or death certificate (which often mentions the date of birth) to your tax return. You could also paper file and include the same information.... Good luck.
Thank you for your response. However, I tried typing in "DIED" in all caps in the box, and it deletes it out. Are there any other options to get past this? Also, where would I attach a pdf file of the death certificate?
11:36am PST SaintOres.com If it won't let you, then you will have to paper file and attach the death certificate. Processing time could be a long one.. up to 6 months. You could also try asking support at FreeTaxUSA if there is a work-a-round. The best time to try support would be mid-morning on a weekday. They will be very busy at this time of the year.
I thought so since I think the CRP is specific to MN.... FreeTaxUSA doesn't have a specific section to enter a CRP refund directly. However, since a CRP refund reduces your Minnesota property taxes paid, you can likely report it in FreeTaxUSA by following these steps: Navigate to the section for entering Minnesota property taxes (state income tax section or a dedicated property tax section) Locate the field for entering the total amount of property taxes paid. Subtract the amount of your CRP refund from the total property taxes you paid during the year. Enter the reduced amount as your total property taxes paid. Or If FreeTaxUSA doesn't have a dedicated field for property taxes in Minnesota, you might need to use "Other Income" or "Other Adjustments" to report the CRP refund. Enter the negative amount of the CRP refund (since it reduces your tax burden). Be sure to clearly label the entry as "CRP Refund" or similar for clarity.
Hello Green, I also sent this to your other comment under TurboTax... But just in case... If you need help from the IRS, it is best to try to get it before November 30, 2023. If you cannot, be prepared for delays and be patient. The tax advocate you spoke to may have been referring to the fact that the IRS is currently operating under a continuing resolution, which expires on November 30, 2023. If Congress does not pass a new funding bill by that date, the IRS will be forced to shut down. It is important to note that this is just a possibility. Congress could pass a new funding bill before November 30, 2023, or they could reach a deal to extend the continuing resolution. However, it is always best to be prepared for the worst-case scenario.
[11:44 AM PST] @SaintOres.com Hello Past, Please contact FreeTaxUSA customer service regarding the input questions. They will be able to help you with adding your bank account and routing number.
[10:35am PST] @SaintOres.com Hello Kellz, It says e-file is unavailable because it will open on Monday, January 23, 2023 for personal income tax returns (1040s).
Does this software account for prior year refunds? Not sure if I’ll get a 1099G. What if one partner itemizes and the other did standard the previous year before?
[10:24am PST] @SaintOres.com Hello Justin, If you are referring to previous years to file your tax return, then yes. You can file your taxes going all way to 2015 using FreeTaxUSA. Hello Katara, I have never used an amendment option on any consumer tax software. You might want pay a little extra and use the services of professional tax support on this one. I have reviewed six tax software programs and they are all about the same as far as quality. My choice would be FreeTaxUSA and TurboTax. Just watch out for all the upsells on the latter of the two. A lot depends on how complicated your taxes are.
[12:45pm PST] @SaintOres.com Hello Time, I just finished filming a TurboTax walk through so both are now fresh in my mind. You can't go wrong on either program. TurboTax has a little more upselling than FreeTaxUSA. I think if you don't have a complicated tax return, you shouldn't pay a lot of money to have your taxes done.
The word "FREE" means NOTHING to this company..THERE'S A POP UP FOR A FEE TO CHAEGE YOU FOR EVERYTHING..EVEN TO CHAT WITH SOMEONE and you cant call to talk to anyone...noi phone number.. I WOULD STAY AWAY...
Hello Rob, I feel your pain. I did walk throughs of all the major online tax software apps (and I don't get paid by any of them), and they all had tons of pop-ups to up-sell you. That's the trade off for filing for free. I was able to file my Federal tax return with all of them for $0.00. That's a crazy good deal to file your tax return.
Hello I was wondering if I could msg ur privately im trying to figure out how my tax accountant got my New York tax owe to 391 when on my FreeTaxUsa account I owe 540$
Hello Jorge, That would be impossible for me to determine unless I saw both tax returns. You should bring up that issue with your tax accountant, that's why you paid him/her.
Now this is what you call a real tutorial, this was very helpful. I usually go to a tax professional every year and every time I go it's more expensive.
I have a question. Box 15-20 was blank so I left them alone. When it came down to my state taxes, do I still file for Virginia?
Hello Dasani, It would be nice to see the actual W-2, but in general, the answer to your question would be yes.
Here's how:
You can search for "Schedule C" within the software or navigate to the section for self-employed income.
Here's the link ua-cam.com/video/3E7uX6XBblg/v-deo.html
Poshmark provides sellers with an annual sales report, which includes information that can be used to help prepare your Schedule C.
The Poshmark sales report contains the total amount of sales made on the platform, as well as the fees and commissions charged by Poshmark. You can use this information to calculate your gross income, expenses, and net profit. You will need to enter this information into your FreeTaxUSA tax preparation software
It's important to keep in mind that as a seller on Poshmark, you are responsible for accurately reporting your income and expenses on your tax return. If you are unsure about how to report your Poshmark income, or if you have questions about the tax implications of selling on the platform, it's recommended that you consult a tax professional for guidance.
@@KatieStOresCFPChFCEA Appreciate your reply. You have a lovely day

thanks ... can I ask more question pls if I am separated but my spouse is not American or work in the USA so how can I put his social security number?
[1:51pm PST] @SaintOres.com
Hello A Lon Drah, The speed at which you receive your tax refund via direct deposit depends on several factors, including when you filed your tax return, how accurate your tax return is, and how quickly the IRS processes your return.
At 14:32 , is that where I would put my hotel receipts for employment travel?
Hi Katie, should I file for loss on stock. Thank you
Hello ReMiFa,
You should file for a loss on stock trades on your tax return in the year in which you sell the stocks at a loss.

Review your payment details and then submit your payment.
After submitting your payment, you will receive a confirmation email from FreeTaxUSA. Keep in mind that you should also verify with the IRS that your payment has been processed and received.
What is the final process if I owe money (no refund)?

How can I withdraw the tax refund can I withdraw to any bank I want if isn't my bank or buy cryptocurrency with it
What if I forgot to add some minor income but I already filed it? It’s like 600$.
Is this way available for non residents h2b workers?
Hello Fernando,
FreeTaxUSA supports the preparation and filing of federal tax returns for non-resident aliens who have received income from U.S. sources, including H-2B workers.

Hello Babanzarah, As a US resident married filing jointly, you can claim the foreign tax credit for taxes paid to a foreign country on income earned in that country. To do this, you must file Form 1116, "Foreign Tax Credit (Individual, Estate, Trust, or Nonresident Alien Fiduciary)."
In addition to Form 1116, you may need to file Forms: 1040, 2555, 8938.

My broker said the Tax Pro can offset you MISC income to $0. Please let me know how to offset the MISC income.
Hello Raj, I'm a little confused. You commented under the FreeTaxUSA video, then you mentioned using TurboTax, and then TaxPro. Three different software packages.
Here are the steps to enter the adjustment in FreeTaxUSA:
Log in to your FreeTaxUSA account and navigate to your tax return.
Click on "Income" in the left-hand menu and then select "Miscellaneous Income."
Click on "Add a Form 1099-MISC" and enter the information as it appears on your 1099-B.

Log in to your FreeTaxUSA account.
Click on the "Amend Return" button on the left-hand side of the screen.
Choose the tax year you want to amend and click "Continue."
Follow the instructions to make the necessary changes to your return.
AGI must be less than 74,000 to use this software?
Or there is no restriction ?
Hello Tariq, Per the FreetaxUSA webpage, your 2022 AGI must be less than $41,000 for Free federal and state tax filing or less than $73,000 if you were in the military on active duty.

Hello Ivette, You will need to reach out to customer service and make sure they support the type of tax return you need to file.

Can I file my tax return from my full-time job and my side food vending business all at once with free tax usa? I know it won't be free because of my side business. Thank you.
[10:35am PST] @SaintOres.com
Hello ilc1234, Yes, you can file your federal income tax return (Form 1040) and Schedule C (for your vending side job) simultaneously.
@@KatieStOresCFPChFCEA Thank you!
hey how can i change my bank account details for refund. ?thanks
[1:27 PM PST] @SaintOres.com
Hello Raygan, If you already e-filed your tax return, you won't be able to change your bank and routing number for your tax refund. You can only request that the IRS issue you a check - and that's only if the return has not yet been processed. Otherwise, go to the banking info input field and change it.
I lived in Illionis then moved to Florida. How can I add that?
Hello Natali, If you're using FreeTaxUSA to file your taxes and you've moved from Illinois to Florida during the tax year, you'll need to indicate this change of address in your tax return. Here's how you can do it:
Log in to your FreeTaxUSA account and start a new tax return or continue with your existing one.
@@KatieStOresCFPChFCEA appreciated, thank you so much.
I am at the final step now of submitting the application. However, they are asking for AGI frm last year, I was filed as depended last year, not sure what I can put for that as the AGI is for my parents. Thank you for your help :)
Hello Natali, Some questions I cannot answer in the comments section. But you can give the IRS a call and they will be able to help. Here's a link to get you started. www.irs.gov/individuals/free-tax-return-preparation-for-qualifying-taxpayers Weekdays, mid-morning is the best time to call so close to the tax deadline. Tax prayer live in Texas and work w2-income $11,000for Dallas and W2-income $6870 for Nevada what I file ?
3:46pm PST SaintOres.com
Hello again Mohammad, You only have to do your Federal income tax since there is no income tax return for TX and the same for NV. Go thru the steps and add the second W-2 information after you enter the first W-2.
Question: how do I file for jury. (i dont see the option for it)
[4:54pm PST] @SaintOres.com
Hello C Y, It's under Other Income. Click on Income, then click on Other Income. You'll see it there.
Thank you
If I enter manually, will it still ask me to upload the tax documents? I have some on paper and some are digital downloads.
[4:57pm PST] @SaintOres.com
Hello Dave, You don't have to upload the tax documents if you want to enter everything manually. I did it manually and found it to be faster. The program asked me once per grouping.
@@KatieStOresCFPChFCEA Thanks very much for the info and the great video!

Thanks Dave, I appreciate the nice comment and good luck with your taxes.
What if box #15 only shows the state and Employe State ID Number is blank on my W-2?
[9:37 AM PST] @SaintOres.com
Hello GETSUZUGA7ZX, It means you don't have any wages allocated to this state and no state tax withholding either.
@Katie St Ores CFP, ChFC, EA Alright. Btw there's an abbreviation in my employer name in the w2, the IRS won't have trouble with it if I type it exactly as it is?
[4:50 PM PST] @saintores.com
Hello GETSUZUGA7ZX, You should be OK typing the employer's name as it appears on your W-2.
Why when you enter your w2 it rounds up the number instead of putting what u type in
[11:35 AM PST] @SaintOres.com
Hello Meech, The IRS recommends rounding numbers to the nearest dollar.
11:36am PST SaintOres.com
If it won't let you, then you will have to paper file and attach the death certificate.
Processing time could be a long one.. up to 6 months. You could also try asking support at FreeTaxUSA if there is a work-a-round. The best time to try support would be mid-morning on a weekday. They will be very busy at this time of the year.
Hi the returns seems to be too small considering that I work as an agent and my clients gets tens of thousands 😅
What about CRP refund do i need to file it separately or it can be found on the tax software?
Do you live in Minnesota?
Yes I do live in Minnesota
I thought so since I think the CRP is specific to MN.... FreeTaxUSA doesn't have a specific section to enter a CRP refund directly. However, since a CRP refund reduces your Minnesota property taxes paid, you can likely report it in FreeTaxUSA by following these steps:
Navigate to the section for entering Minnesota property taxes (state income tax section or a dedicated property tax section)
Locate the field for entering the total amount of property taxes paid.
Tax Avocate told me IRS isn't helping no one till after November 30th 2023
Great video. When is the IRS accepting returns?
[10:58am PST] @SaintOres.com
You'll have to wait a couple of weeks.

Hello Past, Please contact FreeTaxUSA customer service regarding the input questions. They will be able to help you with adding your bank account and routing number.
Why is says e file in not available?
[10:35am PST] @SaintOres.com
Hello Kellz, It says e-file is unavailable because it will open on Monday, January 23, 2023 for personal income tax returns (1040s).
Does this software account for prior year refunds? Not sure if I’ll get a 1099G. What if one partner itemizes and the other did standard the previous year before?
[10:24am PST] @SaintOres.com
Hello Justin, If you are referring to previous years to file your tax return, then yes. You can file your taxes going all way to 2015 using FreeTaxUSA. Per IRS rule, if filing married filing separately, if one spouse uses itemized deductions, the other spouse has to do the same.
Payment keep getting declined I tried 4 different cards still nothing on freetaxusa
Hello Katara, I had the same thing happen to me last week, so I called my credit card company. They said it was because they didn't recognize my computer. Crazy. But I just started using a new computer. Worked after that. Good luck.
@@KatieStOresCFPChFCEA thank you and one more question if I filed with one website can I amend efile taxes on another if so can you recommend me some softwares if you don’t mind please .
Yes. If you filed with one program, you can amend with another.
@@KatieStOresCFPChFCEA do you mind suggesting some to me. It’s like when I try to amend on any other one it’s trying to make me file I need to amend taxes this my first year doing my own .
If you have stocks to claim, forget using this because they don't allow you to import your data.

Is this better than TurboTax? I’ve used that for the past 14 years.
[12:45pm PST] @SaintOres.com
Hello Time, I just finished filming a TurboTax walk through so both are now fresh in my mind.
