Roger did a lot of country style novelty songs in the 60's & had a lot of hits such as "Dang Me", "Chug-a-Lug", "Do-Wacka-Do", "You Can"t Roller Skate With A Buffalo Herd", "Engine Engine Number 9", "England Swings" etc. He also wrote & performed several of the songs (Oo-De-Lally) for the 1973 Disney animated film "Robin Hood".
Gosh, I was still a baby when this one came out! I got to see "Robin Hood" in the cinema when it first came out though - loved _Oo-de-Lally_ and _Not_ _in_ _Nottingham..._
My daddy used to play this all the time. He left our family in 1967 to become his own person and a merchant marine. He never came back but I would play this hoping he would somehow hear me and know I still loved him and he was my hero. He had a turbulent violent childhood and my mom too. They had to separate or the worst would've happened to one of them. But he always wrote me and would send me beautiful jewelry and gifts from all around the world. I was able to see him one last time in 1993 and he met his 2grandsons. It was heaven sent as he passed 1 month later. No hard feelings just adoration and I was in the us army and when he said how proud he was of me and how well I was raising my boys alone, I lost it emotionall. Then his last words to me were I've always loved you my precious ladybug and he said thank you for caring and coming to visit. He was all alone, but I told him he's never been alone, God was with him and so was my love for him. And that was it until I red his eulogy. I forgave him for everything and had no anger, it was his life to live, his way and I knew how much he loved me. I was and still am his only little girl. I miss him and this song always brings my daddy back home to me. Nothing but pure love. The for your time travelling journey. Bless you both.
Hey, my sweet friends❤ Showing my age, but I grew up with Roger Miller. What kid knew the words to another fave..Chug a Lug. 🤣 As always, you bring sunshine to my day. ✌️🥰✌️
On The Last Troubadours UA-cam channel they showcase emerging and established musicians. Sierra Ferrel (without her band) covers A Man Like Me. Well done Sierra!
Roger Miller was such a good singer/songwriter and this is such a good song. He had such a hard childhood but wrote such up-beat songs. Rest in peace Mr. Miller - you're still missed.
Roger Miller was a force of nature when he broke through into the limelight in country music in the mid 60's. He earned 11 grammies over a two-year period, even beating out Paul McCartney's "Yesterday". He was well known for his novelty songs, but also for writing or covering beautiful ballads. In the 80's, he wrote the Tony award winning soundtrack for the hit Broadway musical "Big River". He was also one of the wittiest and kindest people around, beloved by all who knew him. He was a major influence in changing country music so it became widely accepted by "up town" as well as country audiences. It is interesting to hear your take on technology today versus 50 years ago. That's why I love to hear covers of some of the best of the old songs as done by artists such as Home Free today. Thank you for reacting to this great classic! Gail L.
Both of my parents sang and whistled this all the time.. I sat very quietly when it was on the radio so I could sing it, too.. I still love it and listen to it often..
Thanks, Teri, this is such a great song! Yep, that’s what we looked like back in ‘65. I was 12, and this is one of the albums my mom liked to play. What a great day to play this one! Total enjoyment 😊 🎶 Cyd
I couldn't help myself, I had to watch your reaction to this one. Loved Roger Miller, I'm old enough to have heard his work when it was brand new! I was wondering how your audio engineer heart would react to the old school broadcast sounds.
The fade was a very normal, widely used thing in 50s , 60s music of virtually every genre. Back then we didn't give it a second thought. Love you J+J. Love your channel. There was so much really good music we just took it for granted. Maybe you could do something like a Throwback Thursday. Just a thought. Cream, Iron Butterfly, Steppenwolf. Warning Wednesday? Yes please. Heaps
ok. I was 16 years old when this came out, and I loved it so much I went and bought the Album. I had to hie it under my mattress as I would have gotten beat if my parents found it. We could only listen to Gospel music, as the rest would send us to hell. I would play it when I was alone in the house.
: ) I've always loved this one -- and yes, very very close to the album recording! Probably my 1st album memory! Granted, it was in the 70's and probably on a portable record-player (A Westinghouse with detachable speakers!) Vinyl - imagine that!!!! : ) Roger Miller, still love those songs today! Be Safe
Roger was a great comedian singer! You already have a list of his songs… But he was one of the main vocals in the cartoon production of Robin Hood!! “Sir Alen a Dale”. Many other well-known actors and actresses voices were also included!!
I love Roger Miller, love this song. This is the one song I definitely want Adam Chance to sing. He reminds me a lot of Roger. I think Chance would kill this one.he has a lot of fun songs
I loved it!!!! Your reactions was awesome. 😊 There were so many good/great songs back in the day. Where have all the songs go that were about love, not explicit wods, about this country, about growing up? I enjoyed reading the comments to your reactions. Thank you for playing this song!! 🤗🤗
I played this song in 6th grade band... I thought Miller's music and narration was perfect for Disney's Robin Hood. BTW, while driving from Delaware to Arizona, did you use I-40 through Oklahoma? If you did, way out in western Oklahoma, you would have passed by the small town of Erick, OK, birthplace of Roger Miller. There are billboards announcing that, but if you didn't know who he was, it was just another billboard. RIP
Dean Martin gave Roger a run for his money with his cover of this song. Also there's the answer song as it was called in the 60's 'QUEEN OF THE HOUSE ' sung by Jody Miller (11/29/1941-10/6/2022) No relation to Roger.

Thank you for this information! I believe my favorite song was from Robin Hood. That starts with Me and Little John running through the forest......
Wow, how our brains work! I just sang every word along here! I was in my late teens when it came out. Thanks for this, Teri.
Both of my parents sang and whistled this all the time..

My parents played this all of the time (I'm 60). If you're going back in time you should check out Marty Robbins El Paso

Loved this from yesteryear….
Catchy tune, one of the oldie but goodies. Thanks for this reaction!
Wow. Thanks for this guys, and Teri. This was my dad's favourite song and here is it Father's Day. Perfect! Hope you guys are settling nicely. Cheers!
Loved this as a child
One of the great American classics. My mom used to listen to this one.
I’ve always loved the bass in this song! And the snaps! I am as old as this song! 😮 ❤️🎶

Chance did do the song from Robin hood (Disney cartoon) that was a Roger Miller song
@@russellspencer7962 I know and I love it
Have always loved this song !!! I was but 5 years old and for Jeremy, alas there was no Miami Dolphins until 1966 LOL !
Adam Chance covered a Roger Miller song, (O De Lolly). It would be fun to compare both versions. It is a very short song.
