the wedding industry is hugee. doesn't it help a lot of people in the industry when you spend on weddings? most people who have big wedding, can mostly afford it. if you can't afford it and you still want to do it big then there's a problem. One point... In the past marriages didn't take into account consent, or love, or respect protocol between the man and the woman. It was "alliance" making. Money did change hands, and lavish spending was forced by the guy's side.... that propagated and turned into an avalanche effect.. whether affordable or not, girls side started spending like crazy so that the boys side would shut up and treat their daughter with respect.. The infamous sondhakaaranga didn't contribute much to the wedding other than gossip, comparison, reverse engineer how loaded or how corrupt the girls father must be to conduct sucha wedding etc.etc. and toxicity... but ironically it didn't make any difference in the quality of life post marriage, especially for the girl.
Now... today the kids, the couple they want to spend and splurge... and enjoy those moments, and make the marriage about themselves (which is correct in my opinion) Nothing wrong and not judging... but elders like to "tch tch" about it... oh these girls are crazy these days.. etc. When the parents spend its culture, if the kids do the same in the style it is excess...
