To those who came here because they are worried about the well-being of the Goddess: Artemis is powerful. She is the Goddess of justice, she is independence, she is the essence of feminine power. Do not worry, she can't be hurt or touched. She is holy. Send her your protective energies, but do not worry,.
I think this one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. I wish I knew you so that I might close my eyes in your presence and hear you speak this way. What a gift to have even this!
Sister of Iris you have the a voice that is priceless. I am a humble tradesman . I live in a world of noise and stress. I listen to you when I need some comfort . Many thanks.
Hi Im Kimw from south Korea, studying Classics. Your channel is exactly what i ve been looking for. As you know there is seriously scanty source in UA-cam about Ancient Greek in actual speaking. Even If there is , most time it was full of growling or too heavy(as well as Latin too but it's kinda acceptable). Your video, however, is really soft and natural literally, I think you understand how ancient greek exactly flow. I hope you can take some videos about Herodotus's work. Like the situation in front of the athenaiwn. Again thanks for wonderful video
Does anyone know if there is a musical scale associated with any of the Artemis hymns? Or any known fragments of musical compositions related to Artemis? I'd like to read up on that if it is possible. Thanks!
@Brian From The Rebellion nope.Nothing in the mythology from the Homeric period on down to the Hellenic period ever states that. Also the three heads of Hekate are representing her dominion over land, sea and sky.You can find this out for yourself and there is no debate here because you provably wrong
@Brian From The Rebellion Hekate was identified with a number of other goddesses including Artemis, Selene (the Moon), Despoine, the sea-goddess Krataeis (Crataeis), the goddess of the Taurian Khersonese in Skythia, the Kolkhian (Colchian) nymph Perseis, the heroine Iphigeneia, the Thracian goddesses Bendis and Kotys (Cotys), the Euboian nymph Maira (the Dog-Star), the Eleusinian nymph Daeira and the Boiotian nymph Herkyna (Hercyna) This absolutely does not support the whole (mother, maiden and crone) which goes completely against Artemis being the daughter of Zeus NOT an aspect of Hekate

Well, you see, it's a purposeful syncretism. This hymn comes from a point in ancient history when the two Goddesses were identified with each other to an extent
I couldn’t stop thinking artemis earlier today, i looked at a list of wiccan goddesses and gods, and I didn’t even pay that much attention to artemis, but a small voice in my head kept saying “Artemis, artemis.” Is this a calling? Because I didn’t even pay attention to artemis’ name.
Even a basic wikipedia is enough to tell you that you're wrong and/or contradicting yourself several times. Artemis is one of the 12 Olympians. She is not chthonic, nor is she Titanian, which themselves are two separate and mutually exclusive statuses. You can be only one of those three things at a time.
A most befitting and beautiful prayer to the Goddess Artemis. May she be praised!

Artemis doesn't need our protective energies. We need Her's. We will always need Her more than She needs us.

I would willingly be blinded if I had the beauty of that language and your voice to guide me.
Agreed. Heck, I'd willingly be stabbed if she was comforting me.

That's absolutely beautiful. Artemis loves it.
Beautiful
Speaks straight to the heart if you put it on your chest. Seriously might be the best audio editing ever.
Truly beautiful!
Great help for me who is engaged in Indo _Hellenic applications, reading and concentrating on the Homeric Hymn to Demeter.
Hail Lady Artemis, misstress of the woods, keen eyed huntress, protectour of animals! 🙌
may our dear artemis protect us from all these disasters. please forgive us.
Hail oh mighty Artemis ~ 🌕🏹
Thanks for posting this. It would be interesting to hear a metrical performance for comparison.

Artemis is one of the most wonderful gods. On the next full moon I am going to recite this to her altar. I can't put into words how amazing she is.
Hail Artemis, Lady of the Woods, Goddess of the Moon, She who hastens childbirth, She who runs with silver bow at hand.
She absolutely is ! In German speaking lands, we called her "Frau Holle" and "Frau Percht". She is marvellous.

@Brian From The Rebellion two different Goddesses.Only new age wicca says they are the same but the ancient Greek world shows they are very different.

@Brian From The Rebellion In statuary Hekate was often depicted in triple form as a goddess of crossroads.

Really nice, especially because the voice sounds as if it is from a young girl. That's very convenient for this goddess, I guess.

Artemis is not a Wiccan goddess. It is disrespectful to say so.
@josie it is disrespectful
I am being mind-fucked by the differences between modern and ancient greek pronunciation 😲

Well, this is not ancient Greek, the way the ancient Greeks were speaking it. (Wrong pronunciation, wonderful voice.) But nice try.
certainly it is close. I have some issues with the Khi and Phi pronunciation but generally quite impressive.
Sounds oddly similar to modern Arabic
Not at all
It is her pronounce, not the reconstructed

Actually this is an orphic hymn! Most likely titanis means great and chthonia means earthly.
As a professor of Classical studies, Dewfall is correct
I guess Orpheus didn't have Wikipedia when he wrote this hymn...
