Keef brother thanks for the shout out you made my day. I wish the school I attended had served Treacle Tart instead of reject prison food. Nice to see Mrs Keef Cooks. Cheers mate.
Oh my! I can almost smell my public school dining hall and hear the Prefects calling out for everyone to queue up for seating calls. So mhany memories!Thank you!
It was jam-rolly-polly pudding that was always on the menu when i was a kid (1990's), but sadly ive never been able (with steamer or oven) replicate the soft, slightly guey, yet crispy round the edges texture that i once adored!
So here in the US, there is a segment of society who grew up with Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine. We have a pastry called Shoo-Fly Pie. Very similar to your Treacle tart. We serve it warm with vanilla icecream. I love it and have not had it for years. I might look up the recipe and make one.
ooooo, Shoo-fly pie! Haven't had a piece in years, 1955dmb, thanks for the reminder! I was thinking of Pecan Pie, but ooey-gooey Shoo-fly will fit the bill (and raise your sugar level, for sure)!
I love your videos and love your wife she is adorable. little bit of a tip for your liquid syrups spray either your measuring cup or your measuring spoon with oil first and it will slide out much more easily.
My only exposure to treacle tart is from the Harry Potter books, where it was a popular item on Hogwart's school menu as well. Had no clue what it was until now. Thanks for sharing this.
I just found your channel! I love it!!! Thank you for showcasing some wonderful recipes. Will definitely be trying some of these myself. Great presentation made me hungry, hahaha.
I just found your UA-cam channel and I've only seen a few of your videos but I just have to say you and your wife are so sweet and adorable! I've already subscribed and looking forward to more videos!
I remember eating something called Manchester tart. It was pastry spread with raspberry jam topped with custard and toasted coconut it was fab and cost 2p in croxtheth comp. 😁
I'm dying to try it! this is the first video I've seen describing how to make it, and it's simple for sure! thank you for the wonderful instructions! when I was a kid, we had nothing this delicious in schools, but my nana and mum would make a buttermilk pie for after school, a southern yummy custard pie :) you should give it a go!
Oh my, this is on my to-do list. School treacle tart was wonderful, but didn't have black treacle in like your recipe, will try it. Often make Manchester Tart as it's a good way to use up left over partry, and over ripe bananas.
Anne Cain Ours was never as thick as this one. It was closer to a delicious crusty pastry with maybe a thin inch of treacle on top, but we loved it, esp the custard which was always lovely, not the horrid store-package kind at all, not in a Yorkshire public school. I suspect because they were paying dearly for it, our parents wouln not have stood for that sort of thing. Our school food was cooked in the school kitchen by proud local Yorkshire women . The main courses of meat and two veg were simple but always well cooked and there was always more than enough of it. As I recall there were almost always seconds available from the kitchen on most things,if you were still hungry. This was not the case for rhubarb pie or gooseberry fool, because everyone always wanted full portions of those liimited seasonal treats which came from the school's own highly cherished early 19th century fruit orchard and berry patches behind the lawn-tennis courts.
It was cold jelly and tinned fruit at boarding school Keef, this would have been a real treat. Public Schooling mate, brown and potatoes for mains and tinned bits and bobs for dessert, lol. The Horror!. Cheers Moose. 😜
Interesting. So this is like a pecan pie but with bread crumbs instead of pecans. I love how there are still vestiges of British food in American food.
Pecans aren't like bread crumbs at all. But if you compare the recipes, they look similar.. Have you heard/tried the vodka pie crust recipes? The idea is using vodka in place of water will result in a flaky pastry. (I think it's a waste of good vodka) Also this is a very delicious (and rich!) pie from Indiana. You might to give it a go. 5 ingredients excluding the pastry. I think the UK equivalent of 'heavy whipping cream' is double cream. whatscookingamerica.net/Desserts/SugarCreamPie.htm
I'll do it with sorghum molasses (not black strap molasses). That looks so yummy! I hope I can do the pastry right. I made it once and it was perfect. The second time was awful! (forgot the salt)
this is just like an American style pecan pie! Only using breadcrumbs instead of pecans (I don't know if American pecan pie is diff than other pecan pie, but whatevs) Pecan pie is my all-time favorite pie, so I think this treacle tart is going to be super-duper yummy, can't wait to make it this weekend!
What about caramel tart, that was my all time favourite school meals pudding. The one we had at school was made with butterbelle (I know cos my mum was a school cook) but you couldn't buy it to make your own caramel tart. I would love it if you had a try
I was thinking about how to make the recipe gluten free since I have celiac disease, I was wondering if a cereal like Rice Krispies would work instead of breadcrumbs if I crushed them? I'd have to use gluten free flour, of course, but gluten free breadcrumbs are hard to find and expensive. Treacle tart reminds me a bit of Rice Krispie treats anyways, just more caramel and less marshmallow. Also your wife is adorable :)
Hi. sorry for coming for coming off as a dickhead on my first comment ever on your channel. channel which I thoroughly enjoy! so I guess you should know the difference but this appears to be an easy to make confusion. the way I was thought is that a table spoon is the big serving spoon. and the one you show there looks more on the size of a soup spoon. judging by the amount it can contain. this used to be a huge issue back when I used to work for a nursing home and some of the service users where on really strict diets. my apologies, again.
Ah, what I used there was a measuring spoon. It's marked as 'tablespoon' and has a capacity of 15ml. It looks smaller than the regular type, but it's a lot deeper.
The similarities between the treacle tart and southern pecan pie are quite interesting. I think this is the recipe that inspired the American pecan pie. I am eager to try this recipe.
It is very like the pecan pie and the breadcrumbs (use panko) soak up the custard I however would not use corn syrup as keef suggested at all for this as it has a different flavor than golden syrup which has a caramel flavor undertone to it.
I had no idea there was a difference. I've seen golden syrup here in the US, but only recently and I barely know what it is. I thought they were basically the same. I haven't done much baking using corn syrup either, honestly.
Keef brother thanks for the shout out you made my day. I wish the school I attended had served Treacle Tart instead of reject prison food. Nice to see Mrs Keef Cooks. Cheers mate.
I must've gone to posh schools!
Oh my! I can almost smell my public school dining hall and hear the Prefects calling out for everyone to queue up for seating calls. So mhany memories!Thank you!
Another great school favourite for me was semolina pudding with rose hip syrup
Used to love Delrosa rose hip syrup but can't get it anymore...shame.
Yum! Miss that treacle tart from my days in Yorkshire!
That recipe looks great. Thanks for the shout out. Cheers!
You're welcome!
An extremely polished diction 👍
It was jam-rolly-polly pudding that was always on the menu when i was a kid (1990's), but sadly ive never been able (with steamer or oven) replicate the soft, slightly guey, yet crispy round the edges texture that i once adored!
Here ya go: ua-cam.com/video/zM6gnsfZJGI/v-deo.html
Harry Potters favorite dessert
He's a smart kid!
Keef, If you stand the golden syrup tin in hot water for a few minutes, the syrup will pour out very easily

Yay!

Keet Randling Isn't it the best? Sounds a little like the Treacle tart too. And yes, I'm sure the blood sugar level will rise.
In Australia we have golden syrup “cocky s joy” in squeeze bottle
I love your videos and love your wife she is adorable. little bit of a tip for your liquid syrups spray either your measuring cup or your measuring spoon with oil first and it will slide out much more easily.
Ok now make a lovely bakewell tart for us all to drool over. I make my pastry in the food processor quick and easy too pretty much fool proof too
Dunnit Bren: ua-cam.com/video/exBDDLfRxNE/v-deo.html
I looked too on your list anyway, do Manchester tart.
Not sure if our dinner ladies baked it or assembled it on cold pastry slabs but it was fib ☺
My only exposure to treacle tart is from the Harry Potter books, where it was a popular item on Hogwart's school menu as well. Had no clue what it was until now. Thanks for sharing this.

Welcome Lisa!
Looks fantastic, I'm going to try it for sure!
Oh do - it's fab!
I just found your UA-cam channel and I've only seen a few of your videos but I just have to say you and your wife are so sweet and adorable! I've already subscribed and looking forward to more videos!
Thanks Amber
Perfect for Harry Potter themed dinner! Wahoo!
For easy removing the excess dough you may use the roller, and pass over the tart form pressing a little. That action cuts the tart at the form level.
Thanks for making such awesome videos. That looks absolutely delicious.
Cheers Kommkat!
baked goods containing molasses are always so delicious. i cant wait to give this one a try . cheers keef
Enjoy!
Keef, it is easier if you add the breadcrumbs to the treacle mix, first and then pour in to the pan
They do have squeezy/pour bottles for Golden Syrup but I don't think they hold as much as the cans~
Oh, and you and your wife are just the sweetest
Cheers anime!
I remember eating something called Manchester tart. It was pastry spread with raspberry jam topped with custard and toasted coconut it was fab and cost 2p in croxtheth comp. 😁
Manc tart has been on my to-do list for a while - I'll get it done eventually!
I'm dying to try it! this is the first video I've seen describing how to make it, and it's simple for sure! thank you for the wonderful instructions!

Tesco's own golden syrup comes in a squeezy bottle!
Aww, your wife looks at you with so much love c:
I pay her to do that!
Thanks so much for making this! I'm excited to try it for myself :))
You're welcome Cleopad!
It was cold jelly and tinned fruit at boarding school Keef, this would have been a real treat. Public Schooling mate, brown and potatoes for mains and tinned bits and bobs for dessert, lol. The Horror!. Cheers Moose. 😜
Ya poor thing!
Interesting. So this is like a pecan pie but with bread crumbs instead of pecans. I love how there are still vestiges of British food in American food.
Pecans cost a bomb here in UK land, but are they really like breadcrumbs?
Pecans aren't like bread crumbs at all. But if you compare the recipes, they look similar..

Nope not at all like breadcrumbs 2lb cost about $14 in same club in Pensacola.
In the fall, I can get locally grown, newly harvested pecans from a local farm. They are delicious!
Hi Keef (and Mrs Keef) Stand your tins of sticky stuff in a bath of very hot water for a few mins and Bingo! - pourable Golden Syrup & Treacle!
Wonderful job, thanks Keef :-D.
You should try a wet bottom Pennsylvania Dutch Shoofly pie. Very similar to treacle tart.
DOesn't sound very attractive!
I'll do it with sorghum molasses (not black strap molasses). That looks so yummy! I hope I can do the pastry right. I made it once and it was perfect. The second time was awful! (forgot the salt)
Oh Christ your wife is adorable
LOL. I know!
Yes!! haha She certainly is!
"we've been married for 31 years and iv'e never seen her have it", loooool ahahahaha
Salt is a flavour enhancer. So when you added salt you increased the flavours of the syrup
this is just like an American style pecan pie! Only using breadcrumbs instead of pecans (I don't know if American pecan pie is diff than other pecan pie, but whatevs)
Pecan pie is my all-time favorite pie, so I think this treacle tart is going to be super-duper yummy, can't wait to make it this weekend!
Pecans are hideously expensive here in Engerland.
what are inside medjool dates? I always think they look like pecans when I, uh de-nut them? dunno the proper term heh but they look like pecans to me
I couldn't find anything that said they were edible.
Aww, thanks for the shout-out. :-) Only just watched the video.
Yr welcome!
We liked it we can’t wait to see the next wone
Hello again Mrs. Keef! More treats for the mrs :)
What about caramel tart, that was my all time favourite school meals pudding. The one we had at school was made with butterbelle (I know cos my mum was a school cook) but you couldn't buy it to make your own caramel tart. I would love it if you had a try
Don't think I've had that...

Nice, as an American this shit look good. Keep it up Keef
Great video as always Keef! Cheers! -Brock
you can order Lyle's golden syrup in a squeeze bottle on Amazon, just FYI but its only like 8 oz i think
Yeah, most supermarkets have squeezies now.
lucky, my local grocery store stopped selling Lyle's Golden syrup, probably because it wasn't selling very well; so I can only get it on Amazon now.
Very nice! Could you make a lemon tart please?
I want to watch you make that purple crown thing on the bottom of your intro! what is that?
It was a very complicated cake! ua-cam.com/video/JZUxIWTSqqY/v-deo.html
Where did the bread crumbs comes in to it !
Never saw one with it it in !
You don't see them - they kind of dissolve into the treacle and give it some body.
Thank you Keef love your videos many thanks
The VIP comes in at 9:15
TABLE SPOON =/= SOOP SPOON
Thanks for the info. Do you think I used a soup spoon?
Hi.
sorry for coming for coming off as a dickhead on my first comment ever on your channel.
channel which I thoroughly enjoy!

Yay! I'm not the only one who says squidge!
Keef. Bringing British food back to the colonials lol
Keef, you'll find both golden syrup and black treackle in squeezable bottles in M&S :)
Sure, but I can't afford their prices!
Oh, true, they're pricey. I just thought you've said that no one makes them in bottles :)
You guys are so cute!!!
Butterscotch Tart was the classic southern pudding from my age group. This looks great as well though, especially with some pecans chucked in!
No pecans its no pecan pie at all
LOL - then it wouldn't be Treacle Tart!
The similarities between the treacle tart and southern pecan pie are quite interesting. I think this is the recipe that inspired the American pecan pie. I am eager to try this recipe.
You're both adorable :)
Awwww.
9:33 -- The way to a woman's heart is through her stomach.
Hi Keef,If you warm the syrup and treacle tins in hot water the product will becoms a lot less viscous.]}:-{>
You're not wrong Mr Goat! Thank you :-)
I'd love to make that, but I'm sure I'd eat the whole thing myself.
Make a small one?
Sous vide custard.
Bread sweet dessert 🎉😅😊
I'm clearly missing out. Until right now I had no idea what a treacle is and i'm still not sure.
It seems similar to the base of a pecan pie, (minus the pecans), or a sugar pie. Oh, the bread crumbs are very different... Interesting.
It is very like the pecan pie and the breadcrumbs (use panko) soak up the custard I however would not use corn syrup as keef suggested at all for this as it has a different flavor than golden syrup which has a caramel flavor undertone to it.

Shoutout pls. And make broth
What kind of broth?
