I have 3 dewalt cordless drills (all 18.8 v) with cracks along the grip. One actually came apart while in use, just disintigrated. Have they done something to change this defect?
OMG i have been using a speed square for ever but never to guide my skill saw and keep my cuts square! That’s the most priceless tip I have ever gotten from a you tube video.
Mike this video is such a great example of how much effort you put into these productions for us. A cut list to minimize waste!!! What!!! That’s simply above and beyond. Man I enjoy your work.
This video is awesome. I cut all my wood yesterday and I plan on putting together today. Thanks for all of the measurements, it really did save me a lot of calculation work
I just built this and love it. I, too, pre-cut the base section prior to taking it to the hunting land and putting it together. The one change I would suggest is to cut 4-25 in boards instead of 4-20 inch boards. This allows you more leg room from the table. You can then move the 16,5in boards closer or farther to adjust the leg room. The 20 inch boards were slightly too close for me, even when I moved all the 16.5 boards to the back. The other part I didnt get is the boards that are mentioned only is for the base, if you get (4) 1X6X8 deck boarding, it will be enough to do the top. Take a cordless saw to cut the top once the base is built. To cut the angles, just put the board on the table, then take a pencil and run the underneath section to show you where to cut. If anyone can walk off with this stand, they deserve it, it weighs a ton, and that is perfect for me! Thanks for this video, my whole hunt club loves the new shooting table.

Thank you for including what length pieces were used for which part of the bench. I watched the video twice trying to figure out how it was to be built. I’m a little challenged as a carpenter 😂
Great video. Built my bench for about $150 bucks. Took about 6 hours using Dewalt slide saw. I made one change and one addition. I changed the direction of the decking material and center support for the table. In addition I bolted the seat 8:03 bench to the table for extra support. I use my tractor to lift the bench on to my elevated shooting platform and want extra support. Really appreciate the cut list.
That is a great shooting bench. Right handed or left but it also gives a seat for an observer. Battleship Grey is a great choice color for the project. Thanks for your time and especially the prefab dimensions displayed for quicker construction and little waste. Great Job! A Salute to you.
Just finished my shooting bench using your plans mixed with a few others. Turned out well. Thanks for the video. Here is 2020 the lumber is NOT under $100. lol
I have the same drill and impact driver set. One of the best Christmas gifts my wife bought me. I used them to build a patio deck and pool deck and battery life on these was really good. I wanted a 3rd battery for bigger projects and when pricing them out it was cheaper to buy another drill that came with 2 batteries, a charger and carrying bag! Keep up the great work. I enjoy watching your videos.
Hello shooter friend! I made two tables for my shooting range after seeing your video! Entirely in Douglas almost lossless after cutting, they are all the rage among shooters !!! Nice work and thank you for sharing! A small French fan of shooting ...
Awesome! Mine came out great! Thank you so much! I went with 2x4 for base and top frames to save weight and money, still super rigid. Used a router for edges and used all treated lumber. I wish I could share pictures on UA-cam! If you want to swap for 2x4 construction… you’ll need 6 2x6x8, 4 1x6x8 for top, and 5 2x4x8 for base and top frames. Thanks again!
Great video Mike! I watched this video over a year ago and finally built my own shooting bench based on your plans! Great content on your site, keep it up!
Cordless drill have come a long way for TWO reasons. Battery tech and Motor tech. Brushless motors put out way more power than older brushed motors. And since you posted your how-to vid they've gotten even better! P.S. Great video
Great shooting bench! Somewhat similar to ones at the gun range I use to shoot at down in So. Cal 40 years ago. To me, they were the standard for a great shooting bench! Your's should serve you for the next 40 years! I'm here on youtube to get ideas for a better portable bench than the one I built 25 years ago. Its been a good bench, but far from perfect. Thanks for making and posting the video, and for the tip about the DeWalt power drill! Good shooting!!!
Great build, came out really nice. Awesome planning to use up all the material. I was also impressed by the right angle skill saw cuts!!! Thanks For Sharing: Shawn
I just finished cutting all the lumber for mine this evening. I bought everything at Lowe's. I'm going to modify mine just a little bit though. I bought Two 8 inch steel lawnmower wheels and Two 1/2" × 3-1/2" Stainless Steel Carriage bolts, Six - 1/2" Stainless Steel Washers, and Two axle end caps. I'm planning to attach them to the bottom front of the table so I can lift it from the seat end and move it around easily. I may have to raise the bottom frame an inch or two and shorten the two front legs. I guess I'll put skids on the other legs and under the bottom where the seat is. Great idea and great plans. Thanks. Update: At 6:50 the cut second from the bottom, the second piece should be 40" instead of 41". I finished building the table. I added wheels to the front and 1-1/2" skids under all other solid areas that touch the ground so it will sit level. I also added a cable attached to each end below the seats with a 3' piece of PVC pipe so I can pick it up on that end and roll it around to wherever I Want it for shooting or storage. I used some old decking boards I had removed from a deck and cleaned them up with Thompson's deck Cleaner, then weather sealed the whole thing. It looks great. I used it to zero my Ruger 10/22 then my 300 Blackout. Works great and very sturdy!
@Association of Free People The material list is 2×6×8 (9) & 2×8×10 (1). You will also need a few deck boards to cover the top. They're not on the cut list. At about 2:52 there's a cut list, but at 6:46 there's a list that shows how to cut each piece to get the least scrap. Unfortunately he skips the part where he cuts the 45° angles on a couple of the short boards. I would have liked if he had put the list of materials and cuts together at the end of the video like he said he was going to. I had to skip around and pause quite a bit to get all the info. It is a nice, sturdy shooting table though. I love mine.
This bench looks rock solid. A great prototype. I am going to build one for a right-handed shooter. That should cut some of the weight off. This gets me off to a great start. Thanks.
I built this bench from your video about 5 years ago for my dad. It's a good bench and definitely heavy. I am probably gonna build another one here in a few days. To bad it's about $200 to build now
Hey Mike. Just wanted to let you know I took some cues from your video and made my own shooting bench this week. I did a standing version instead of sitting but your video was super helpful. Thanks for posting your videos. Can’t be happier than the way it came out.
One of the best video tutorials I've ever seen. One question from a tinhorn here...at 6:29 of the video what is the distance between the two rear 2x8 vertical rear bench supports? spacing is critical to ensure proper seat support. It looks like 3 or 4 inches maybe? Can someone clarify, please?
Hello Mike, Rob here, live in ft Loudon pa west of Chambersburg. Been watching your channel for a few weeks, want to say , thanks for all your tips on, everything, can't own a home and just not take care of it, I just bought another tractor, I had a 270 framtrac, owned it 9 year's, I traded it for another framtrac 320 with a home sweet , well just wanted to let you know, what you are doing is great, Be well be safe,
This is crazy. At work, we are alway talking about how our phones listen to us. Just this week, me and a friend of mine were talking about building a a really good shooting bench. I come home from work today, click on Outdoors with the Morgans and this video comes up and this is a video that i hadnt watched yet. Just may be something to this stuff about our phones listening to us. I dont really believe that but we have talked about it. Anyway, that looks like a nice bench. Thanks for taking to time to show this. Stay well, stay safe and yall HAVE A DAY
Awesome shooting bench. We are in the process of building a range on the back side of our property now. This bench design just might find it's way there.
The impact works better driving screws then the drill trust me we use them every day a must for driving self tappers if the drill has a clutch yeah it's usable but use it all day compared to the impact you will figure out what I'm talking about! Like I would of put them 3 in deck screws in with the impact it works great for that they arnt really built for taking bolts out as much as driving tappers long screws really the only time I use the drill is for a drill bit I use a electric impact for mower blades and dewalt impact for smaller bolts and such on my truck or mower
that's pretty awesome mike you showed how to build v well and the cutting measurements was good too v easy to follow, i don't shoot here in Wales but it would make great bench thanks Roy
Is it weird that my "Go to" UA-cam channel is watching Mike cut trees, mow his lawn, and altogether maintain his property? I have been beating this idea around for a few years myself... I may have to make this a winter project this year. Of all of the similar genre channels there are on UA-cam I find myself looking forward to watching yours first.. Always something interesting going on that I am interested in. I will wait patiently for the "Modifying the Jeep" video.
Nice looking bench. How are the 'hard corners' on the seat area? Do you wish you routed them with a round over bit? I would think it would make it a little more comfortable on longer range days.
Nice project, brother! That came out nice. Looks heavy as heck. I know that's part of the plan. If I build one, I think I'll add a horizontal board to the front in line with the board on the seats to capture pallet forks in a channel. That way it'll be a bit easier to relocate. Really nice...
Lumber is cut, just stained the ends. 1st measurement I wrote down was 35, 35, 35. No matter how many times I measured the wood was still too short. Then I double checked the cut list and made the two corrections. One of life's hacks: Use wax paper on your saw top to make the wood easier to slide to the cut mark.
I got the older dewalt drill that’s not brushless. I’m going to replace it with a brushless once it craps out. I’ve been saying that for the last 4 years they just won’t quit
Hey just curious how big you are and how the fit is - I have to build one for a guy who is about 6'4 350 - wanted to check before continuing - great video by the way
Mike I am not seeing where the measurements are for the top and what size would you used. Plan on building this this weekend and needing to know the type boards used on top and the dimensions
Very nice bench, but not sure what pieces are used for the up rights, I know my shooting house platform is to high, when used with shooting stands or rest, like let sled, they need to be no more than 29" -30" to the table top. I used a minnow net and made a shell catcher for empties, works so good, it folds up and keeps all my brass clean and in order, GREAT shooting bench, now the roof so get busy.
Obviously not your first time handling tools. We have a very similar bench at our Cameron County PA camp. IT was originally built by a member for use at his Bucks county home in the 60s. When we built our camp in 1973 it was moved there. It was built with regular framing lumber, not pressure treated, as that wasent available at that time. However, it received numerous coats of wood preservative. It also sits on a concrete slab. Today after more than 60 years it still appears like it was recently built.
OK, Mike, it's only 8 days 'til the bow season opener here in GA (September 9, 2017), and I'm still waiting for you to show your tower blind build.... I watched the video where you got your spot prepared, so let's build something!

Great video. Now that's the life having your own shooting range.
Great video Mike! I watched this video over a year ago and finally built my own shooting bench based on your plans! Great content on your site, keep it up!

Thanks Lamont!
I gave a thumbs up, just for the idea of using a speed square, as a saw guide
Not sure how I didn't think of that doing deck repairs past fall ?
Built my own variant based with your general measurements as a basis using just the lumber I had around the house. Thanks!!

Mike, I learned something from watching you cut the board. Using the square as a guide, awesome trick.
Great build, came out really nice. Awesome planning to use up all the material. I was also impressed by the right angle skill saw cuts!!! Thanks For Sharing: Shawn
Thanks for making this video I just built one and I am very happy with how it turned out.
Nice Job On The Bench!! 👊

@@kschantz What did you come up with for a dimension on the angled pieces? Wheels are a good idea. Would like to see yours completed.
Nice little project looks great. I look forward to seeing some shooting video's !!!!
Really awesome thanks I built one with my brother in law really appreciate the time and video 👍🏻
Nice dog and chickens....and fast too!
This bench looks rock solid. A great prototype. I am going to build one for a right-handed shooter. That should cut some of the weight off. This gets me off to a great start. Thanks.
I might have used composite material for the deck and seats after seeing how treated goes away with age. Nice build, looks GREAT Mike.
Nice! I’ll definitely be making one of these
I built this bench from your video about 5 years ago for my dad. It's a good bench and definitely heavy. I am probably gonna build another one here in a few days. To bad it's about $200 to build now

Hello Mike,
Rob here, live in ft Loudon pa west of Chambersburg.
Been watching your channel for a few weeks, want to say , thanks for all your tips on, everything, can't own a home and just not take care of it, I just bought another tractor, I had a 270 framtrac, owned it 9 year's, I traded it for another framtrac 320 with a home sweet , well just wanted to let you know, what you are doing is great,
Be well be safe,
Thanks Robert
Very cool. I see one of these at our county fair in April...
Great Video ...learned so much ..soon as there is Lumber I will be doing this ...
Awesome shooting bench. Nice job.
🔥⚡🙏🇺🇸 these are amazing benches made two of them
Nice bench.. thank you for sharing, Mike

Great video
Use 1 8 foot deck board and 2 10 foot deck boards
That’s really nice!! 😃👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸.
Well done video, easy to follow directions. Thxs for posting.
Thanks for the great video, just built one last weekend!
What is the spacing dim between the 2x8's at the end of the bench
Awesome shooting bench. We are in the process of building a range on the back side of our property now. This bench design just might find it's way there.

Hello from a fellow Pennsylvanion
i finally had the time to sit and watch the video and lo and behold their was a cutting list seek and you shall find.
Did you use 3" Deck screws?
that's pretty awesome mike you showed how to build v well and the cutting measurements was good too v easy to follow, i don't shoot here in Wales but it would make great bench thanks Roy
Thanks Roy
Do you have a cutting / material list for the build? Lately I feel the need to practice shooting at bigger distances.
Awesome job on the table.
That's a badass shooting bench Mike nice work I'm going to make one !

1st measurement I wrote down was 35, 35, 35. No matter how many times I measured the wood was still too short. Then I double checked the cut list and made the two corrections.
One of life's hacks:
Use wax paper on your saw top to make the wood easier to slide to the cut mark.
Nice man I’ll definitely be building one of these
I like this but 1 question there is no cut for the middle spar at 40' in your cut list? Please advise.
good use of material beefy construction
How do I get the plans
What screws did u use
cant find your cut list for the shooting bench?
Great video do you have a cut list for the lumber?
Looks great matey xden
You will (2) additional 17" 2x6's (or 2x4's) for the 45 degree side pieces as well as (4) 1x6x8 deck boards for the top. Otherwise excellent video!
Did you use pressure treated lumber?
Yes
I got the older dewalt drill that’s not brushless. I’m going to replace it with a brushless once it craps out. I’ve been saying that for the last 4 years they just won’t quit
GREAT design, video, and commentary! I'm going to go down to my shop now and take stock. I hit that ole SUBSCRIBE button and look forward to more.
Nice work! Great Bench !
Hey just curious how big you are and how the fit is - I have to build one for a guy who is about 6'4 350 - wanted to check before continuing - great video by the way
I wonder if for a few extra dollars you could use synthetic decking boards for the top/seat. Be totally weather proof.
Nice build
Thanks for making this video! I was wondering what length the boards are that make the 45° angle on the deck
The impact is the best
Yes it is impressive
List of boards for top?
Nice job. Great video, that is for posting
Thanks, Happy New Year
I came to see how to build a shooting bench and ended up staring at your Jeep the whole time.
You need to add wheels on one end for ease of moving it...
Nice work mike
Thanks Greg
I have a dumb question. Why buy lumber when you have that assume saw mill?
OK, Mike, it's only 8 days 'til the bow season opener here in GA (September 9, 2017), and I'm still waiting for you to show your tower blind build.... I watched the video where you got your spot prepared, so let's build something!
I know, I know lol
