When my brothers and I were little we ate the same food my partens and grandparents ate, there was no meal just for us kids. We also had to try everything at least once, if we didn´t like it, fine. But we had to try it. PS: As a little kid I ate eel, mushrooms, prawns and one of my favourite treats was black liquorice.

(And I'm not even mentioning British former prime minister Margarethe Decker, oops: Maggie Thatcher I mean.) "They always make the most processed, nonsense food for children", I agree. I'm not a father, never was, but in Germany, it's still common that children eat a "half portion" of what their parents eat, and I think that's how it should be. Americans are so fed up with sugary ketchup, they can't even comprehend tomato sauce without 10 spoons of sugar in 1 serving. So they can't tell that Spaghetti with Bolognese is literally 2 components: spaghetti, and pre-made tomato sauce that's got seasoning and ground meat. The easiest to make kids meal at home.
Well, you can find such kid´s menus in Germany as well because "traditional" meals are not as common in Germany for kids as it was a few years ago. In most European countries children imitate their parents. That´s why there are small portions of "real" meals available. Why should children be given just fries, hamburgers, pizza and sausages in general.
Most restaurants here in Austria (at least in my region) don't even have a kids menu. You just order a "childs portion" or a small portion of anything on then normal menu for the child, and they will serve it on a smaller plate for the child (and mostly a few euros cheaper or half the prize than the normal one).

I remember the stories my mother told about our grandfather and the vacations in italy in the 60ties and 70ties: one of the uncles just wanted food he liked and knew. so wiener schnitzel it was for him. grandpa was unhappy, they travelled close to 400km, and yet the boy wanted wiener schnitzel. and even back then, the restaurants were already accustomed to it. those vacations in caorle sure were fun for him. so this is not a new development, that's at least 50 years old.

The "Quarter Pounder with Cheese" is called "Royal Käse" in Germany. Now it has been renamed "Royal Cheese". If you're going to rename it, why not "Quarter Pounder with Cheese"???

But it's more difficult to translate "quarter pounder". Sure, you could call it „Viertelpfünder“ but that's not a word you would use on a regular basis and it's not a common quantity you could instantly imagine how much it is. And even if you think about it, you might wonder whether you should take an "imperial / US customary" pound as a reference - most Germans probably won't be able to tell how much that is - or if you take a "German pound" (Pfund) being exactly 500g, so ¼ should be 125g. That's just too much thinking but if you are responsible for advertising (or naming a product) you want a name that just "sounds good" and people would like to order without needing an explanation first. An English name makes sense for an American fast food restaurant but only as long as people can understand it easily… they are not only offering it to people who are interested in American culture and want an "authentic" experience but to the masses.

Honestly buying "Capri Sonne" was very nostalgic for me - I had these since I was like 4 or 5 years old - but I get nothing out of them now.
