Just made the Together quilt with Sincerely Yours. Had 2 of the 4 patches oriented wrong and too far long when I noticed it to want to take it apart. Still looks great and it's going out the door to my great neice, mistakes and all. I will not point out the mistake and she will never notice. She has seen a picture and can't wait to get it. Don't ever let a mistake stop you from sending out a quilt, truly with a quilt it's the thought that counts, not your technique or skill level!
I am always excited when I see a podcast or video from A Quilting Life. Your family is so similar to mine so I can Identify with your humor and family situations. Your fabrics and patterns are on the top of my list and I have made so many of your creations. Waking up early to sew is something I do often. No interruptions and prime time to listen to your podcasts and videos. Thank you for enriching my quilting life!
Hi ladies & Billy! Yes, you DO bring us joy 💗💗 I don't listen to podcasts but watch all of yours-mostly because of not missing out on the showing of the quilts!! I can't wait to see more of the "orphan" quilts in the trunk! I loved them all 😊😊
I love your podcasts! I have a tip about design boards. I bought a bunch of stretched canvases from Michael's during a sale a few years ago. Turned upside down, they make wonderful design boards! They're like shallow boxes. I can stack up multiple projects. If I added some batting or flannel to them I could stand them up. So far, I like them flat on the table.
Great to see all three of you today! I love hearing and seeing you all together😊 Billy always keeps you all together😊Chelsi, the more I look at Hearts At Home II, I am sold on this quilt! It is so beautiful ❤❤❤ Looking forward to my Strawberry Lemonade order! It’s my favorite! God Bless all of you😊
For the question about size and on-point quilt blocks: Krista Moser just posted information and a little chart for figuring out sizes for on-point quilts. Also, when talking, about how sewing makes you happy- this past year my husband had 3 strokes and my sewing time has been drastically reduced but, has become so much more important in that it is truly my happy serene place.
Always happy to watch the three of you. I am in my late 60's and have made quilts for years. No where near professional. Arthritis is brutal on the hands. I still manage to make 20-25 quilts for one of the teachers from one of the schools her for her kids for Christmas for the past three years. She buys the batting and I have all the rest from my mountain of a stash. The quilting is "rough". My own version of meandering,.........but,.......NO ONE HAS COMPLAINED😂 The quilts STILL keep you warm!!!! Thanks so much for your videos.
I learned to bind quilts the same way I learned how to sew a quilt- you Tube! I thought it would be the hardest part, but I love doing it. It's not very difficult to do. What I don't like is putting the quilt sandwich together, lol.
Before I retired, it was always my practice to get up early and go to the sewing room for an hour to an hour and a half then leave for work. People at the office always asked me why I did that and I said I wanted to give myself the best part of the day. Also, many times on a Friday I would come home from work lay down and take a nap and then get back up around 8 PM. I would then go to the sewing room and sew all night long. About six in the morning I would slip back into bed and get a couple of more hours of sleep. My husband said he would wake up in the middle of the night and hear that sewing machine just whirring away.
Another great podcast! Talking about getting up early reminded me that when I was working (I retired last year), I used to get up at 3 am so that I had time for quilting before I left for work. I had to be at work at 7 am and it was about a 40 minute drive. So that usually gave me a good two and a half hours or so of sewing. Not doing that anymore but I'm always up by 6 am to watch your video every other Monday
Funny you should mention adjusting alarm clock a little each day. When my son was a baby & for several years when he was small, I would slightly adjust bottle / mealtimes each day for a week immediately before daylight saving started & again during the week prior to it ending. There were never any problems with sleeping / waking / meal patterns as a result
Thanks for gave us this opportunity to learn more and have fun, I love this podcast with you guys!!😊❤
I have. A design board, but I also use painting canvas with the slats on the back. I turn them upside down. The pieces stay inside the slats and can easily be stacked. And they come in packages of 5 or more. 🙂
Love the Sunshine girl
That quilt behind Billy is beautiful! Sherri, we need a tutorial on how to make those grandmother’s flower garden blocks. I have no clue how to put those together or how to appliqué.
I would be interested in that also
To the listener question that wanted to know about enlarging a pattern up to queen or king size….remember also that when you determine the size quilt you need for your mattress add at least 3-5 inches or more. I paid $800 to have a king size quilt custom quilted for my bed. I measured and measured and included the drop I wanted so that the quilt top was what I needed. What I didn’t account for was that quilting SHRINKS your quilt a good bit (I can’t remember the percentage but on a big quilt it’s significant)! When I got my quilt back it was nearly 4 inches too small to fit. I was so distraught after paying ALL that money and it didn’t fit.😢
I am in love with your fabric collections and patterns. I hope in the future that you could include different sizes for each pattern, being that I am fairly new to quilting it would be so helpful. Thank you for all that you do for the quilting world. I truly feel that I am a Quilting Life groupy.
Oh Carrie that BOM is amazing ❤
It would be fun if Billy videoed the strike off process you go through, saved it, then shared it on youtube after the new line is released.
I love the 18” and last time I looked they were sold out. Lori Holt made a tutorial that I want to make.
I had to order the collection because I really love it.
Thought it was fun you shared a quilt from a listener in Kansas on this episode - today is "Kansas Day," the day it became a state! (I'm also from Kansas.) Thanks for another great podcast episode and keep up the great work in 2024! ❤
So excited that you read and talked about my question!!(whether or not you cover your machine) ... I felt like you were talking to me directly! You made my day!!
I love this talk about waking up at 6:00 in the morning. I work as a janitor at a high school. It’s an 8 hour/day job. I start work at 5:30 am and work for 4 hours. Then I have until 3:30 pm for 4 hours. I try to get in the sewing room in these 5+ hours between shifts at work 👍🏻😊
Enjoyed listening to this listener’s questions podcast while sewing!❤❤
Idle Isle chocolates are so good! I have a coworker that gives those to us for Christmas.
I would love it if Sherri & Chelsi would consider doing a 'favorites' collection of fabrics previously released from all their collections. Would be a Best Seller for sure!!
Enjoy listening and watching you three!! Thanks for doing these podcasts!!
I've used pretty colored masking tape and/or duct tape around the edges of design boards that I make. They are fast to make and hold up very well.
Chelsea, great to see you’re feeling better!
Thanks! I do cover my machine every night- one of my machines with a cover I made and the other with the Janome cover that came with it. Would love to see a photo of Sherri and Chelsi in their new sweatshirts. Thanks so much for the entertainment and enthusiasm!
I really appreciate this podcast! Thanks to all of you ❤
So I have my Fat Eights bundle of strawberry lemonade and excited to see the quilt along.
Wow that Community quilt is stunning 🎉
If finances are a concern (IE: fixed income quilters), the exact same product can be purchased in the laundry products aisle of the grocery store/Walmart/etc. labeled as "Magic Sizing", by the same manufacturer!
I buy them from Walmart 5 at a time!
I love watching you, just realized that I hadn't subscribed which I quickly did! Thank you for designing such lovely patterns and fabric that continues to feed our hunger for creative expression.
I saw Lori’s tutorial for the boards on a video. Your quilts and fabrics are all so beautiful.
I am in the process of making flowers for Emma. Such a good “on the move” quilt. I take it everywhere.
Thanks Billy for naming quilts.
Chelsi welcome back and your quilts are fabulous.Greetings from Switzerland
"Carrie from Australia"... the quilt you made your niece is beautiful, and your photograph is one to frame! I love the backdrop of the old building and dry grass, it makes your quilt just pop.
Flowers for Emma is my favorite of your patterns, and bonus - I managed to order 4 yards of your new hexie cheater cloth and it has been shipped! Can't wait!
Thank you Chelsi, I thought I might be an outlier lol I’ve never ever thought about covering my machine. But dang now I feel it’s been a missed opportunity for adding some cuteness in my studio-life!
So enjoyed this day! 😊
Watched the interview with Kimberly and am now a new subscriber to your channel. Also ordered botanical remix after watching the interview and received it in yesterday’s mail, so excited to get started!!
Strawberry Lemonade is so pretty!! I ordered the half yard bundle and a bolt of the cheater! Thanks for mentioning all the quilts! ❤
I missed out on the Strawberry Lemonade cheater print. I left it in my cart for two days and it was gone!
I am obsessed with your new collection Strawberry Lemonade. I have bought 2 fat quarter bundles and of course this year’s charity quilt. I don’t know what I will make with the bundles🤔. It may be put in with my fabric that won’t be used and just saved as a collection🤗. I hope you continue to add the cheater fabrics to your future collections. 🥰
I believe Lori has a video on making her design boards on her UA-cam and also maybe FQS!
I would love to see a special arc called Billy and Beau: A Quilting Road Trip and you two could send them on like a scavenger hunt and they can tell stories from the trip! I think you said that some one had a son named Beau who has a mom in the industry
Yes, getting up early is Free sew time for me, great once you get in habit.
Strawberry lemonade is my favorite collection of yours. I love it because it doesn't have gray. I bought a fat quarter bundle and jellyroll to make hearts at home 2.
Oooh- it will look beautiful in those colors!
Watch out for what you wish for. I think my age gets me up early most days. Good podcast
I love the Binding Tool Ruler from Missouri Star Quilt.
Sew Yeah Quilting had your fabric in their show the other night. It was great.
10pm here Australia
Billy was not awkward. It was fun to watch! But very glad Chelsie is feeling better!
Chelsie, your quilts on display are all beautiful. Enjoyed this video and thanks to all for sharing. 👍❤️🙂
Hi guys, I also have Janome memory craft machine like Sherri . I do cover because it is in front of a large window. I am a bit worried about yellowing from th sun even though it is a métal machine there is some plastique . It also keeps dust down. . I recently purchased Chelsie's Régal pine pattern so i know what my next Christmas quilt is. Good video. Thanks.
My quilt teacher coverd her machine with a tea towel. Much easier to store!!
I don't cover my machine. The cover that came with it is made of vinyl and very stiff. I should. I can usually get into my studio 3-4 days per week.
I can identify with your sick,
sick, sick. Iam 82 and I was sick for 6 weeks. Flu for a week+ in hospital for 2 day,for tia,
flu again. Then a cold from hell, for 4 weeks. I’m finally back. I thought I would never get well. So stay well pleased.😀🤎🤠🧵🥰☝️ Miss Gloria. From Bullard, Tx.
Miss Gloria, I'm sorry you were so sick for so long. I'm 66.My older sister and I babysit our grand-nephews on Mondays. The 3 year old started daycare on Thursdays and Fridays, in late September. Since then I had a cold in October. On November 17, I came down with the 3 week virus that acts like the flue. I got laryngitis halfway through. I thought for sure I would end up in the hospital, but just avoided it. I've never been homebound that long in my life before. We missed Thanksgiving with our families. I felt better for two days in December then my husband and I both got COVID for the first time. He had it for 7 days, me for ten. We recovered just in time for Christmas, but the cough lingered into January.
He's had a cold and ear infection in January, one sister has had strep throat, another sister pneumonia,my two adult sons, their father, and a daughter in law are now sick with RSV, the 6 month old nephew has bronchiolitis now, and my third sister was just diagnosed with stage one vaginal cancer. This is one of the most unhealthy winters my family has had since we were children!
Like they say, getting old is not for sissies! My husband and myself are three and four year cancer survivors thus far, one sister has sarcoidosis which weakens her immune system, another has AFIB. Our parents died of cancer at 65 and 70. My younger sisters are only 57 and 62 so my older sister and I hope we all get the privilege of living at least into our 80s. We take turns helping each other out as needed.
I do hope you have family or friends helping you out? That is a comfort when you are sick. I also hope the rest of this year is much kinder to you. Sending out a prayer for you. 💟
Love the shirt can't touch this with the scissors.
I cover mine EVERY time I walk away. I lost a beautiful cat a few years ago that emptied the bobbin from the machine and swallowed it. She died because it wrapped inside her intestines. It was so devastating and never again!!
Oh wow. I never thought of that. I'm so sorry.
Billy, you should show us a good picture of your dog, Jack...
Lori Holt's tutorial is on UA-cam for the design boards
What if you did a line/a bundle of all the strike offs that you had. That could be fun
There is a video. I used it to make some. I happened to have the supplies and tried it. Easier to buy them. PIA dealing with the hot glue gun and binding.
Since, the last time I had my machine cleaned professionally I was told how dirty it was inside so now I always cover my machine when done using it for the day since I sew near a door that isn't sealed well enough and we have 3 labs.
Always a good podcast! So excited for 2024. More sewing definitely needed over here. I had a question about small spaces and design walls. Any tips when making up blocks on the best way to use and arrange on one. After designing my layout on paper would it be better to then lay out the blocks by rows first or columns? My wall is only 6 feet tall by 3 feet wide. I usually sew a quilt together in rows but just wanted to hear your suggestions. Thank you.
Good morning! Thanks for dropping this right on time for my 2nd cup of coffee and looking for something to watch before my workout. ☕
Chelsi, those quilts are divine! I can't WAIT to sew up my SL half yard bundle, which is sitting on my desk right now, being adored in its pack. I might nab some more just for a Sunshine Girl.
I’ve made a bunch of design's boards using my sewing machine! No hot glue! There is a video out there explaining how.. ‘Make a Design Board with Your Machine’ it’s recommended you use a denim needle. Much easier than the hot glue.
I only made two using hot glue, lol. Bad idea I made the rest with colored tape for the binding.
If anyone is looking for the tutorial on making design boards, there is a tutorial on the FQS UA-cam channel.
I’d love to see Chelsea’s video on unboxing her early and unfinished quilts. Please provide a link. Also, how can I subscribe to Chelsea’s blog?
Low volume= not "loud". It is a phrase that replaced Neutrals or Background fabric.
Yes. Lori has a tutorial on UA-cam to make the.
I have a nice large design wall...but use cheap (new) cookie sheets to bring a block over to my sewing machine as my portable design board. Would probably be better if I flannel lined them...but they work and don't get soiled.
That's a good idea. I've made some with dollar store foam board, colored tape, and leftover batting.
Lori Holt has a video for the makibg of design boards!❤
Lori made a video tutorial for the design boards for Fat Quarter Shop, she has the tutorial on her blog too
Lori Holt does have a video to make the design boards. 😊
Enjoyed this podcast, as usual. Where is the video Billy and Chelsi are talking about at around the 26:00 mark?
💜☮️
Hi All. Do you have any strike-off regrets? Maybe a color /print/combo you had to cut but really wish you would have kept?
Lori has a you tube for making the boards
I think Lori's tutorial is on you tube
After hearing Kimberly talk about using design boards, I decided I needed some, too. 😄 I watched Lori Holt's video, as well a one with Kimberly and really considered buying some because I do not really like using a hot glue gun. I found a different video on UA-cam, called Design Boards No Hot Glue by RsIslandCrafts. She uses Heat and Bond instead of the hot glue. I tried it and it worked perfectly. For under $5, I have two nice size design boards. Looking forward to using them. ua-cam.com/video/U0HLswv8W34/v-deo.html Thanks so much for your podcast! Happy New Year!
Design boards. You tube. No glue design boards. No hot glue gun.
Hi guys! I’ve wanted to send a pic of my finished quilt for some time, but cannot find the correct email, help! 😁
Hello! Where do I send in questions? Thanks
I have need patchwork buyer
Lori did it in UA-cam
I make time to sew. I sew a few minutes before work and take time in the evenings to sew. 🧵 even if it’s 20 minutes.
