I like to imagine this is an evil genius, has taken everyones hard drives around the world containing important data family photos etc and is just holding them ransom. He's just chucked a few in the shredder to show he's serious. Look how casually he just throws them away, he's a monster.
There is something really satisfiying about watching this!
Now that's what I call good hard drive formatting !
Why am I so drawn towards this?
So hypnotic
Shred One of your own Shredders. Shredception
The NSA dislikes this video!
Gives a whole new meaning to the term, "file shredding"
best job ever!
The way he shows the biggest hardrives being dumped into the shredder is really funny...Its like "Now you see it....Now you dont!"
That's how the Cloud was born
The ghosts of old hard drives
.. and a sense of humor
Edgars Jevdokimovs
Haha, epic! :D Yeah, that's what the cloud needs, harddrives and a sense of humor :D
DusteDs Stuff And unicorn farts. SOMETHING has to power it.
***** Everything in the cloud is, somewhere, somehow, on someone's hard drive. That doesn't mean it isn't a part of cloud computing.
My stomach churns when I see this. God DAMN that's some destructive power right there.
I love the sound of those things crunching lol
this looks like so much fun
This is the most fun job ever!
It sure is fun watching expensive and useful items being crushed and ground up into cheap, raw materials.
I could just imagine the safety precautions for servicing one of these things...
-Shut off all power to the machine and lock the disconnects.
-On a hydraulically operated machines, close and lock all service valves.
-Obtain a confined space permit if necessary to enter the hopper.
-If the shredder is operated by an internal combustion engine, disconnect the drive coupling and lock the transmission shaft.
Another warm and fuzzy thing is taking burned out hard drives to the range and picking at them with a .308 or Dragunov. I did that with some computer-nerd friends at Drexel Univ once. What fun!
Consider those drives RMA'd. They do it for Data security. As long as the drive exists data can be recovered. They are simply making the drive not exist anymore. IN A TOTALLY AWESOME WAY! At a shop I worked at we used a panel hammer to 'RMA' drives.
I think this is the equivalent of your computer showing you human brains in a juicer.
they have a very satisfying crunching sound
That poor floppy :(
Damn. That's saddening and epic at the same time ;)
0:28 - 0:30 HD: No, you can't do this to me, no! aahhh! no! ah, it hurts, heeeeeee*CRUNCH!* eelpp....*crunch*
A low-level format would do the trick, in a low-level format, you would set every sector on the disc to a certain value, say 0F. That way there is no data to recover.
With a normal format that anyone can do easily, all that really happens is the index at the front of the drive is set to be empty so that when the operating system checks for any data present it "sees" nothing on the disc, that is how data recovery works, scan the disc and see what data is there but not referenced in the index.
Shredder wants MOAR!
Kid: How many licks does it take to get to the center of a hard disk drive?
Shredder: None. *CCCRUNCH*
I need to get one of those, would be perfect for when I clean up my place
Why am I suddenly reminded of Futurama Season 2, Ep 14.
Garbage Disposal: "Don't worry. Your pal the garbage disposal's still on your side. Hey, someone dropped a shiny diamond ring down here!"
can you imagine accidently slipping and fallling into this?!?
I've seen animals been put through these, they have some real power.
ahh very soothing sound it makes ^^
i love watchin shredders and stuff gettin crushed, it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Go USA!
@pmgodfrey most hard drives are not destroyed to recycle but rather for data security
Nice explanation of how they do that. If every byte of the disc is the same value how can data recovery occur?
this shredder is cool, see how small chips it makes =)
we have a smaller shredder in the garage at work aswell. its fun to play with it and shred various stuff with it. from cans to boxes etc.
Sweet! I want one of this! :D
Data from 'Empty Recycle Bin' can be recovered. Shredding hard drives like this is a very quick way to ensure any confidential data which may be still on them is destroyed. It's just like shredding confidential paper documents.
Hard drives can also be bulk degaussed as well, for destroying confidential data.
yeah, I'm sure those were brand new drives still under warranty...
My computer loves this video!
OM NOM NOM NOM
I wish I had access to one of these when we beat the crap out of our old computer with a hammer and magnets lol.
id love to have a job like this
I just subscibed... to watching things get shredded. Ah hell yeah!
great crunching noise!
No, even burned hard drives from the space shuttle challenger had its data retrieved. You can actually retrive data from a HDD cut in half if you really wanted to (maybe not all of it but most). The only way to safely remove all data is to either use high powered magnets on it or shred it.
I need one of these to throw cats in lol
if i owned one of these i could spend all day just going around grabbing shit to throw in it and it would be awesome every time lol
someone on youtube did that they took the silver disks out of a hard drive and melted them with a blowtorch possibly an acetelyne torch b/c i think the disks are made of aluminum and melt at a high temp
Sounds like cereal in the morning :D
How come I enjoyed watching this? :P
You...you eated my...my hard drive? *puppy face*
you have the best job in the world
dude that is soo funny omg still laughing
Strangely, my computer is running a lot faster after watching this
That has to be the best job ever
My favourite part was when the harddrives got shredded
i love those videos!
SCOUT. the freakin heavy is shredder
HEAVY. FEED ME SANDWICHES
Hard drive confetti, awesome.
lol, i found this video in "recommended list" to melodic shred guitar :D
Watching this ... hurts ... so much. :'(
I'd sure like to do that for a living! Destroying old computerhardware by throwing it into a big ass shredder!
Yeah I read about that after my first comment.
Also true about the data recovery thing, so I guess we DO need an industrial shredder after all. ;)
shredder says to the guy: it needs more salt. by the way all the spam sure gives it a zing! LOL
that's one way to keep your wife from finding all your porn.
Or you could just not download it, or use it in a private browser
Cool machine - but scary as hell. Would not want to trip next to it and fell in :O
I want one, I have a few things to shred ^_^
I found this pretty funny, imagine some creaming Hard Disk Drives, oh the horror.
Have you already backed up your data? Fantastic sound!
Watching this made me happy. 8D
Just turn it off and then on again it will be fine ;-)
@tunfischDCS In Edmonton Alberta, the toxic metals and plastics are sent to an air cyclonic separator not much different then a shop vac on steroids. The Metals are shipped off to a specialist smelter that recovers the trace metals after melting. This is becoming a growth industry as much of this material is very rare and expensive to mine.
they have these is most of the sheaders now just with diffrent sizes. i bet some of thoes were still good...
It's like watching a monster getting fed.
Ah well, back to Will It Blend? for me.
I'd love to see a FBI or any other agency forensics trying to recover data from a HDD after that. :D
You know what would be a fun game? Have a competition to see who could build a contraption that lasts the longest without being destroyed. Limit the materials like the egg drop.
I'm curious... Why does it seem that every video showing a shredder from SSI - none of the components have been separated from one another.
As an owner of a computer demanfacture, we take the entire thing apart - separating the plastic from the chassis and boards - wires etc.
All you're doing is making smaller waste - not separating components.
that was oddly comforting.
wow i love that CRUNCHHHHHH
it made me cry i need a new harddrive
LOL @ 0:41, i guess it tried to escape the "shredder"
Sounds YUMMY
That scary cracking noise!
that's a satisfying noise.
Protect ur hardrive from SSI shredder with the new 2020 Norton Anti-Shredder
lol
I wonder what happens to the 'magnet dust', it can't be good sticking to the machine.
I think I'm in love!
It would suck if the camera man dropped the video camera in there.
+nitramsk8
No because then we would have closeup video of a camera being destroyed Kappa ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Nom nom nom! Macintosh tastes like butter.
Bleugh Windows? You sicken me with your marmite!!
Linux? Tastes like gravy!
do you think the drive arm at least still worked? (Hard Drive Speaker)
Every fifty hard drives they throw a kitten on it to keep it lubricated... just kidding. :)
Man thats the job for me.Just stand there all day feedin that beast.yea.
oh man that looks fun
Lets See CSI try to put these hard drives back again. Hahahahaha
Cool job!!!
Oh the memory!!!
Man, that is how us real men go about the secure task of data destruction.
dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/sdX FTW
+David Boshears (RareCoinsGuy) If you do it atleast 3-7 times and also use strict failure checking, then you are good2go. But one pass wont completely erase data. You will make it impossible to recover data using the disk's own magnetic heads because they aren't sensitive enough. But: Theres magnetic remanence left that can be recovered using specialized tools in clean rooms, eg "heads" that are tens of times more sensitive than the harddrive's own heads, and also electromagnetic microscopes and such.
NOOOOOOO!!!!!! THERE GOES MY PORN
MY PORN!!!!!!
MOM NO ITS HOMEWORK I SWEAR!!!!!
Every recycling center should have one of these things. o_o
Oh man..I love it!!!!
