We have about 6 mustangs, two corsair, one Spitfire and one kitty hawk in our club, of these great models, i am NOT an instructor, but happy to help with ongoing training, and at our Club (SRCC) these little wonders are not considered a joke, but more of a marvel, at how tiny they are, yet fly like a much bigger plane, for me, they can be a great way of entering our hobby of RC planes, as they are CHEAP ! and so easy to fly in beginer mode, a joy to fly in the Mid position, and with the right wind conditions fly well with no Gyro, plus in the UK, they weigh about 80-100 grams, so legal to fly pretty well anywhere with out any of our current licensing restrictions

I love these little marvels and have a few different ones. Eachine, Volantex, TopRC are all viable examples. They fly great right out of the box for loads of fun with no hassle.
They are great for beginners because everything is included in the box. Also they are easy to fly, durable and forgiving, offering great practice while learning the basics of RC flying.
Some "toy grade" planes are weak and slow becoming boring pretty quickly for anyone but young kids. But this type has just the right power and agility to be good for beginners but also rewarding for experienced pilots. They have earned a special place in the hobby for good reason and I hope they never stop making these little gems in all kinds of different models and color schemes.
Perfect holiday gift for a kid or adult who is into RC flying or wants to get started.

I believe the reason they don't like to recomend these little planes is because they view them as toys, like the old Cox planes and they are quite snobbish to think of them as fully functional rc planes. The second thing they don't like is the flight controller is basically doing the flying and they don't consider you a pilot and therefore a patriot of their's untii you can fly a plane without any stabilization. They had to learn to do it, why should YOU get to not.
I view them as a perfect gateway drug as IF a person is hooked by flying one of these they're liable to want to try a fancier plane like the larger UMX versions and sooner or later, they'll want to fly larger, more complex things. They could go straight from one of these to something like a 3d Plate Foamy that also doesn't break very easy but is fully controlled by the modeler.
It is possible they've seen the negative aspects of the fly by phone quadcopter pilots ignoring any safety rules, diving structures, flying over crowds, near airports that have garnished us new government regulation we didn't want. I get that too but most of the negative feedback I've heard is the "you're not a pilot till...." part.
It is a shame for people to be a bit snobbish when what we want is more people flying.
I just hope Volantex puts out their versions of these newer planes I like the looks of the SF-260 you last reviewed but would like to stay with the same controller though I have a Taranis with 4n1 module and could fly all of them off that. The AT-6 looks nice too.

I don't mind if all the Toffs turn their noses up at these little toys. More for our enjoyment.
And anyhow I wouldn't want to be a Certified Member of any Club that'd have me as a member. You've got to draw the line somewhere! 😜

@@theoztreecrasher2647 Alright "Mr Groucho"😅 My home club has a number of these, in different generations. They usually show up, take a plane out, complain about people not following THEIR ideas of proper procedure and later put their plane back up. They DO buy or build a new plane every once in a while but you rarely see them flying it, if it ever does. I've seen a pristine model from one of these folks 3 years in a row. No rash whatsoever. AND I've seen them fly, from a distance, where it's safe. Fact is, One of them constantly complained that I was mowing a control line circle back behind the field on the other side of the drive up. Usually a mention, loud enough but not to me of, "I stopped flying that stupid round the circle stuff years ago and started flying REAL planes by RC". He probably always got dizzy. You ain't flown till you've been up in a control line circle with 10+ other pilots. MAN that is MASS flying.
