I’m back for more. You’re covering the good stuff. Very useful and gives you confidence to use your blade. Things happen and to know how to restore it is so important. I’m still practicing all the time.
I have actually put convex edges on some of my hard use work knives that came with flat ground edges originally. They definitely hold a working edge a lot longer. Especially knives with m390 and 20cv. Simply strop at night and it’s ready to go the next day.
I was searching videos about convex edges because Im carrying my bark river gunny hunter Lt today. And this video came up. At first I thought I missed this video from last year. But nope, I had given it a like. Because I watch all videos, and I like.
I do not buy any convex edged knives just because I just don't know how to resharpen a convex edge. I do use stones and the worksharp adjust but it's different...
Great video Aaron, very helpful. Can I please ask what book you were referring to, with the description and picture of the convex grind? I have a number of different types of axes and knives, and it would seem to be a useful reference book. Keep making the videos, always informative 😊
G'day Aaron, as much as I really love a good sabre, I reckon a convex is the "ducks guts" as we say, (it means extremely good or the best, lol), Yes they take some practice to use and maintain well, but hey, ...... what doesn't. Cheers Duke.
@@gideonstactical FYI; I believe it comes from; that the offal was/is considered a delicacy and therefore the best part of the bird. Not my cuppa tea, ..... survival food at best, lol. Convex knives don't provide performance aka edge retention. They do have their advantages though. But cut testing in both rope and cardboard has shown longer edge retention with v edge. With fixed blades I prefer a convex. With folders I prefer v edge.
I appreciate the video, but you barely pounded on that nail. If you were batoning the force of hitting a nail or rock would be much harder and would test your edge, steel and ability to re-sharpen in the field more. You held back too much.
I've always sharpened my fallknivens on stones. Honestly once you get the hang of it then it's more natural then sharpening a v edge.
I’ve had a Fallkniven A1 for over a decade and have never sharpened it with anything but a DC4.

Cool, thanks
Carry some 800 to 1200 wet dry sandpaper it weighs nothing can get wet and placed on top of cloth can be used to sharpen convex blades.
Nice!

That is awesome!
Thank you so much for this. I was struggling with a blade, but following your technique has finally put a proper sharpness on my edge!
Glad it helped!
my field sharpener was one of the best purchases I've made and had it for almost 3 years now. awesome video
Couldn't agree more! And thanks for watching
Gonna try.this on my.ratmandu I convexed it by hand but usually just strop
I've put convex edges on several of my outdoor knives. Awesome stuff.
Very cool!

Very informative thx😊
Thanks for the tutorial. Got to love that works Sharp Field sharpener .I use mine all the time
It is a dream
very instructive; thank you
That was shocking. 2 full minutes of advertising on a short 6 minute video. I get monetising vids but that was thirsty as😒

Hi, what is the title of the book you show at minute 1:03? Thank you
Thank you and recently happened to my Garberg. Blessings! 🙏🏼
Small circular motions work well, for field sharpening convex grinds and edges.

I'm surprised no one has built an inverse grinder wheel for this application. Spinning... The inside Hole of the wheel is the work surface.
That would be nice
A good sanding sponge can work too (cut into strips)!
Enjoyed it brother!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching
@@gideonstactical You bet✌
God Bless u.. I can't sharpen my knife free hand.. But with the Worksharp belt sharpener,. I can't muck it up..
Very informative thanks.
Glad to help!
Mouse Pad and Wet / Dry Sandpaper works great for convex edge
Im sorry if this is a stupid question but am I right in thinking the strop needs a compound on it?
Depends. I have used a leather belt many times to strop. But different compounds will create different course levels.
Thanks for this important Video👍
Most welcome 🙏
Very good and relevant information!
Glad to help!!
I'd like to see a video about your convex grind knives collection
Can you visually tell the difference between a convex and flat grind knife? I can’t tell at all
Thanks!
No problem!
Whats the knife please ? Nice looking blade. It has a lot in common with my british army mod survival knife.
Cool thanks
Simple and effective bro 👍
Thanks Steven!!

I have had a different experience, especially for outdoor use.
@@gideonstactical yeah for wood convex is a good idea overall. V grind for wood is just not fun at all.
Pastor this video help me thanks .
Glad to hear it!
Ceramic rod for convex in the field...
One diamond one 3K grid..
What book is that
I really like that knife.
It’s a beauty!
I don't like convex i'd rather just go for a wider flat angle overall for longevity even if it's "duller"
You barely damaged that edge, what about if you actually damaged it?
I do those on all my knives after i sharpen them lol
YES BUT THE CONVEX GETS RUINED
I nearly cried when you damaged the edge! It was like watching Forged in Fire 🔥 😂
Nice video. Thanks 👍🏴
Glad you enjoyed it
You should totally get a patreon. You can see how few people are willing to pay to listen to you.
