    Thx! Not sure if this is why the commenter said what s/he said, , but many of us are "afraid" of using those markers. Sometimes they don't remove so well. TFS this really neat block! You did it well!!!

      It won't matter if it shows they used it where they were cutting so the markings will be in the seam and unseen.

    Why press AND mark THEN use a ruler? Why not just use the ruler?

    • @helenaMe325
      @helenaMe325 4 місяці тому +4

      Probably because folding in half on both axes is easier and makes it more accurate. The marking is so you can see where to cut. The ruler is to cut against it and make an accurate cut. That's how I'd do it too. Measure a million times before cutting 😊

    I need to have 4 5 inch squares across for my placemats. What do you suggest? Nines doesn’t work for this obviously. Love the disappearing 9 though!

    Be mindful of placement of the middle fabrics. Cutting through that beautiful elephant in the center hurt my soul. 😂

    What’s the thing you’re ironing on??

  • @inezaultman1850
    @inezaultman1850 4 місяці тому +2

    Just cut. Ironing a crease and marking the cut are just redundant.

    • @helenaMe325
      @helenaMe325 4 місяці тому +1

      This is a very common process in quilting. It makes it more accurate. As seams are so small, you don't have to be far out to end up with an uneven block. Accuracy in cutting is essential to make it work. Measure twice or even three times before cutting. That's the rule. 😊

      @@helenaMe325 As you prefer. I pressing anything but flat is unhelpful for me for accuracy. My blocks would be pressed, centered and squared before these cuts.

      @@inezaultman1850 I don't quite get what you mean '..I pressing anything but flat is unhelpful for me'... Folding in both directions is very common when squaring up with larger pieces such as these multiple blocks or the whole quilt. It is just much easier to find the centre by folding both ways rather than measuring one way then the other then finding the centre and not marking it. I don't get what you mean. it doesn't make sense. I never 'just cut'.

  • @gigiontube
    @gigiontube Місяць тому +1

    Gee… just use the ruler and cut in half both way after pressing !

    • @pennyobrien5641

      He said he marked with the pen because with the busy pattern in the fabric it is easier to see. Sheesh!

  • @marthaarthur1364
    @marthaarthur1364 18 годин тому

    Why even cut it in the first place?

  • @backwoodsbaby9729
    @backwoodsbaby9729 Місяць тому +1

    Marking that was pointless
    So was folding.
    If you cant measure the middle of a 10 inch block you shouldnt be quilting...

  • @wendyferranti8514

    It makes a pretty block, but the fabric choices should of had more differing values, too mediocre
