This '69 chevy has been used and abused and it shows, as the body and frame are pretty rusty. Will this 6cyl run again after sitting for 10 years??? Thanks for watching!

It always a great idea to put some ATF, PB blaster, or marvel mystery oil down the cylinders before you crank it, to help lubricate the piston rings.
Exactly what I was thinking. Good advice.
I love these 69 Chevy full size. The front "loop" bumper is great. They had a good style language in 1969 with the style of the full size and with the Camaro, both with the shrouded headlights and grille. The 69 full size rear bumper completes the rear body line rather than standing out. Just great.
Got to get one of those scopes, nice.can't beat those six cylinders , run forever. Good barn find. Thanks Ryan.
thanks Dale!
These 250 six's will run forever, my Nova has one and I'm not going to replace it or anything..... Well done.
If it turns over, it will run! I have a 63 Biscayne that arrived with a dead 230 and she now has a 68 Camaro 250. Love those engines!
I like those old Biscayne/Bel Air 2: door sedans,to me they're cooler than the Impala/Caprice series.
Something about those 2 door sedans I dig two.
agreed
Yes! The clean lines of the lower-level Chevy's definitely has an appeal. I would restore one of these like it left the factory, black-walls, dog-dish hubcaps and all, but drop a monster motor in it and upgrade all the mechanical components. It surprises many people that the Bel Air and Biscayne's were around into the early '70's. Calling them rare is probably true.
I died laughing when you stepped in that rat trap
Use snap traps the glue is cruel
it wasnt funny! but lol thanks for watching
I'd try and find a replacement '69 or '70 frame for it and restore it. How many of these will you ever see again? Way cooler than any of the 9 million 69 "Yenko" Camaros out there that never really existed we see nowadays!
yeah the floors and such are real nice, just the frame is junk!
Its the same frame from 65-70
Nice find! I had the opportunity a few years ago to trade my 1980 Toyota Corolla for a 1969 Impala Custom Coupe (different roofline) but didn't pull the trigger unfortunately. The '69 is my favorite of the '65-'70 B-body Chevys for the shape of the wheel arches and the bumper placement on front. 👍
I’m glad us old dudes can leave you guys with the idea that old cars are cool an you all love them I like we do to this day. We just can’t afford them anymore….😂😂
Old cars are in my veins man! I love em
Put a lot of late model sixes in 39 , 40s and 50s Chevy we would put split manifolds on them, god, they sounded fine. Brings back memories.
I have the exact car out of a barn as well. 6 went away and was replaced with something quite a bit bigger. Love these cars. Gramps bought a Green one just like it too...
Wow 6 cyl 3 speed.very cool love basic model cars . keep it stock and restore.it 👍
These are one of my favorite cars. I'd love to do a mild restomod on a 69 2 door just like this.
She was running and you kept killing it with too much starting fluid LOL. I wouldn't bother pumping the throttle either. There is no fuel in the bowl and you'll more than likely rip the accelerator pump with it being dry like that. Not trying to be a dick. Just a heads up. I would totally swap a good frame under that thing. Love those odd ball stripper models like that.
i filled the bowl 2 times in the hope it would keep it going. obviously that didnt happen lol
This has alot going for it. 6 cylinder. 2dr sedan body. Beyond Plain Jane. And you know what a shame is.? This won't get restored as it is. Where else are going to find a car like this. There needs to be cars that are kept as they are. Cool car either way.
I take it there's another '59 on the way. Can't wait to see it. Good luck with the '69 Belair!
there is ALWAYS a 59 on the way haha :D
I don't think I've ever seen one. Very very cool car!!!
thanks guys
I have an inline 6 GM250!! Awesome engine, sounds like a dream!!
ps: Piston rings worn out, and metal in the past was worse... 5 years ago mine broke rings...
An old granny car, sweet find!
thanks!
I bought a 69 impala for 225$ in 1985 witch uses the exact same body and color in 2dr with a 327 and a two speed powerglide. Top and interior was perfect but rusted out trunk and rocker panels and lots of blow by smoke when floored. So if you add the 327 and powerglide, new frame and fully restored you can make an impala clone worthy of auction with that
Howdy Ryan. I have watched and enjoyed several of your videos. I love reviving anything old, especially if someone else has considered it junk. You folks have gold mines out there with old cars like this. They are not quite as plentiful here on the east coast, and if you do find one, you better have a pocket full of cash. One thing I noticed though in a couple of the vids as with this on like at the 9:50 to 11:00 min mark. You get too happy with the starting fluid to the point you are flooding it causing it to knock off. Don't add more until its about to cut off. This will help avoid flooding it. Hey, I have been there too and learned the hard way. I don't know what's harder starting an engine not getting enough case or starting an engine that is severely flooded.
Keep up the good work. Also put you a clear filter in-line on your make shift fuel line or just before going in the carb. That way and you see fuel movement.
I was trying to keep it just barely going but not stalling it. Definitely not that easy lol
Not sure if you tried to prime the fuel pump or not, but sometimes that can make a difference in weather or not it will actually start to pump too. Like the barn find and the video
I noticed the two pull controls for the Astro Ventilation. One was for the kick panel vent, the other for the dash panel vent, so you could have fresh air through either or both. This was only used for one or two years, then reduced to one control, for the upper vents. This engine was eager to start, which is always nice. A geezer from the carburetor era has a couple of tips for you kids who grew up with fuel injection, to make your lives better when you go to start a carb equipped engine. First, fill the fuel bowl of the carb, through the bowl vent at the top if the carb has one, or through the fuel inlet. Second, close the choke, the plate at the top of the carb. A couple of pumps of the accelerator pedal, crank the starter, and hey presto, if everything else is good.
i didnt know that about the ventilation, thanks!
bird poop, raccoon feces, and bat guarno 😂😂😂😂😂😂love those old classics CHEVROLET 6 cylinder steelies
Good video Ryan. Those old GM 6 cylinders were awesome workhorses
Thanks Ron!
Three pedals, stove bolt inline 6, 2 door coupe, radio delete, awesome. I see this one it’s way to Sweden in a shipping container filled with vintage chevys.
Matt, that car has radio delete. Very rare on a 69 full size car. Definitely worth a frame swap and rust repair. I have a very similar 68 Bel Air, 6 / stick, 2 door. Nice find!
Now that’s my favorite car right there, well, any 69’ Chevrolet, don’t matter what model it is! Awesome bud!
thanks Doug!
@@IowaClassicCars - yeah buddy you’re welcomed!
Chevrolet made many nice body style changes to it's cars from 59'-69'. No auto maker would be able to do that again. I always looked forward to see what the new model year would look like.
I’m amazed that people were *still* buying the big-body Chevies with six-cylinder and three-on-the-tree as late as 1969.
I guess it’s a midwestern farmer/rancher thing. Somebody might have been on a tight budget. Add a V8 and power glide and power steering and it’s a much more convenient car to drive.
The two door sedan is cool. It’s a shame the frame is bad. Somebody should drop a big V8 in the thing and make a sleeper out of it.
If i understand correctly, I think you could get a 6cyl in the B bodies (GM) up into the mid 70s.
that would be awesome!
@@IowaClassicCars So this started a quest of sorts, but - early 1972 production could get a 250 ci 6cyl in Impala -HOWEVER- supposedly after 1500 cars, GM relegated 6cyl to Biscayne & Bel Air only. ...SO, maybe something to watch for in future. Myself I've only heard of these, but never hands on one.
Just sharing as you sometimes come up with unusual cars - a good thing.
Cool car, my 2nd grade teacher drove the same car and in 1970 was still new, thanks for sharing and as always "Howdy from Texas "!!
Very cool barn find! My uncle had a 69 Chevrolet 4dr medium green, automatic transmission, think was V8. I remember riding in back seat in 70's in Quincy, Massachusetts. My youngest sister got to sit in front passenger seat. I don't think I ever saw a 2dr bel air sedan ever, great you rescued it from it's barn life! Maybe next owner will make it road worthy? Take care.
actually yes, i think the next owner is a friend of mine and has a good frame for it
i luv full size 6 cyl 3 on the tree cars...so plain...no pretensions...they are what they are. my grandpa had a '63 Biscayne wagon with 6 and three on the tree...parents had a '68 malibu 2 door with every trim option on it, but a 6 and powerglide. the chev 6 is a sweet running engine.
as plain as you can get lol
I once saw a 71 impala hardtop coupe…in-line 6 and 3 on the tree. The only options were an AM radio, tinted glass, white walls, and oddly a vinyl roof. I really really wanted it
i like 1960s Belair.
would make a good 427 4speed car that color is cool same as Camaro "Lemans Blue" look ate the trim tag on the fire wall paint code should be code 71
Yeah, the tough old 250 cid . The old man had one in his 1972 2 door Nova. 😎👍🇨🇦
bulletproof engines
You always find a set of piston rings or main seals because that's why the car was parked in the first place.
Lol thats no doubt
Awesome! See previous statement of, it smokes!😁 probably what took it off the road. Goes to show you how hood they used to make then!✊
My wife and I purchased a two door hardtop, Impala, 396 C.I. brand new in September 1969, which was the exact same color.
I had one exactly it, color and all
Nice!
So that means with all the documentation and the papers, this car should at least have a title. Johnny, Montréal, Canada
It does
My dream car!!!
glad you like it!
I definitely like the 1969 Impala 2 door. I bet that straight 6 could be swapped out for an LS 6.0. So much potential. How much do you want to spend? Iowa winters aren't the greatest on cars chassis. Rust in the quarters, and rusted out frame. I see the dollars signs going up quickly. You could drop over $10k easily, but the car is cool. Are you selling it?
Rare indeed. Could have been a county or city car or just a base model special ordered. Love it !
probably just someone wanted to spend as little as possible!
Loren Krueger was born May 24th 1930 and passed away January 17th, 2016. Lornie was HIS nickname and he grew up in the Charter Oak area. He was a Marine and served in Korea.
Its sad that he wasnt able to see it back on the road! Good info
@@IowaClassicCars Probably rolling over in his grave. You calling him a woman...
@@MortskeRepair lmao my bad my bad
I think '69 was last year for 2 door post full size Chevy Bel Air/Biscayne. '70 was hardtop Impala/Caprice. 4 door sedan for Bel/Bisc '70-'72, then BelAir '73-'75.
What a GREAT Chevy.... NO options ! Restore this gem as, she was new...
You're killing me!!!!! Been looking for a 69 Impala. Love those cars. Too bad the frame is bad
this one may be for sale if my buddy doesnt want it
69 2 door post. I have one. Badass cars.
"radio delete" back then was simply no radio at all when built. Was optional feature until later 70's. Didn't 'delete' a radio on assembly line,
while a radio was optional, 99% of people sent the $4.50 extra to get one lol
Nice find guys well done Gentlemen. She started very kool.
thanks man
Even Demo Derby Guys have standards. Funny thing. If you got it running it would probably be one very reliable car. A 6 cylinder Chevy is like 2+2. Basic.
very basic thats for sure
Definitely gotta get me one of those scopes and scan tools
They really do come in handy! Thanks for watching
Congrats on your new car. There is a good chance Loren is a guy. Good luck.
Yep, was gonna say the same thing. I used to work with a guy named Loren. At 6'3 and 300 pounds he wouldn't be happy being called a "she".
If the frame is gone, so is the car!
Excellent video :) also why got bearings and rings because some motors orgnail owners might get motor rebuilt so take shows after restoration done too! !
Thanks Andrew
MAN!! I Love 60’s Biscaynes, Bel Airs, & Impalas!!😁👍 I Hope that one gets to be on the road!! It wants to Run!!😀 (With that spelling, Loren, I think, is a man.🤔😉)
Yeah we have found out he was a korean war vet but has passed away
Why didn't you film it coming out of the barn Ricky?!?
Because im an iowa farmboy and forgot lol
@@IowaClassicCars Those khakis scream anything but "farm boy"!!
This is good
Nice car
Thanks
Great video Ryan is it common for a full sized car to have a 6.👍👍👍👍
With the base models a lot of them did have 6 cylinder engines.
@@mexicanspec thank you
Yes. I had a '66 BelAir that had a 6 cylinder with a 3 on the tree.It was rusty as hell, but I drove it to the junkyard in 1984.
I bought in 75 a 64 Impala ss 2dr with the same engine but automatic $100 bucks and it ran good.
Install a big block and good brakes, make a sleeper.
good idea
I'm down here in Decatur County I love your Channel
My ex is from leon lol small world
keep the great work
thanks!
Wow. Stick shift 2 door biscayne. With the protector plate. Very rare car. That car could be the ultimate sleeper. Replace the frame, I'm sure they're around, and that would make a great project car. Get a period correct 427 and an M22 4sd or a 6 speed , and that thing would RIP and still take it on the hiway, no problem. I hope someone does something with that car. Very few and far between.
Protector plate? School me on that.
@@witcher71 the protecto plate was something that you gave the dealer when you had a warranty repair. Looks like a metal credit card that the owner was issued that had your name and the car"s vin number. You ran it through an old credit card machine from the seventies, and that had to be attached to any warranty claim to GM for the dealer to get paid. Worked at a chevy dealer in the seventies.
that would be cool
They used that car completely up
lol thats no joke
It's a pile
You can tell right away it is a 6 cylinder car.
Are you guys doing Power Tour?
Negative
My dad ordered a Impala SS new after he got out of the army in 69.350 4 speed car.id fix It if I could find a frame.
I just like the way how some car people don't know shit and saying the wrong shit! Ok first of all, it's a Chevy Impala and 2nd, it is (NOT) a Chevy Bel Air. It has a Impala body design/language with a identical tail light design.
You dont know what youre talking about. Lol it literally says belair on the fender
Did I miss you checking the oil? I must have missed it......
i dont film things like that. took 4 seconds to do, everyone knows how to check oil lol but if you want i can start filming it
@@IowaClassicCars This way the video will be complete, showing everything...
Fantastic find Ryan. Would you sell it?
i believe its sold already but yes it would be for sale
Honestly, I do not understand why G.M. discontinued making the 250 and 292 engines they were and still highly sought after for many applications.
Unfortunately it was called progress; 3.8 & 4.1 V6s debuted mid 70s, 4.3 Chevy late 70s or early 80s. Either way, this car - with 4 or 5 simple spares carried along, could go almost forever.
😍!
General Motors. The only company’s stupid enough to spend millions of dollars tooling up new bumpers so that they can cheap you out of an extra tail light
haha, well noted
Old cars will not run on the new carburetor cleaners because they're not flammable.
Its ether not carb cleaner
@@IowaClassicCars Ah ha, that makes sense.
😎1969.V6👍👍👏👏🙂
Flooding it with the starting fluid, silly
1969👍👍🙂👏GKK🚘
Nice 300 dollar car.
More like 50
Where in iowa is this guy live?
Near des moines
I’m trying to find a project car like this and I was wondering what you paid for something like this
Less than id sell it for lol
From the exterior, I have a suspicion that Chevy is an old police car. Probably from a very small agency with the 6 cylinder engine. However clues would be the whip antenna base and the spot on the left side of the trunk that didn't power wash. It's police shield shaped and I suspect that it's glue residue hence it wouldn't power wash. Does anyone else have any idea?
2 door police car??
Yes, the Oregon State Police used 2 doors here until 1968 when they ordered 4 door 1968 Plymouth Furys.
Police cars would have V-8. Not straight 6
My thought was probably a small or one man agency that the officer had to purchase his own vehicle or the city was too cheap to buy a factory police vehicle.
Put an electric fuel pump on it and do donuts!
Oooh i forgot i ordered that from your link lol
@@IowaClassicCars Damn kids and their laziness.
I bet ya that fuel pump was working and you were just flooding it. It shouldn't have ran as long as it did with that spray you were using.
If it was working shouldnt it have stayed running once i stopped spraying ether? I guess thats what my thought was
I'm not sure on exactly what was/wasn't working. In the video, it looked like you were smothering the engine by spraying ether in the carb. You could be right about the fuel pump no longer working. I could be right about you flooding it with ether, I don't know?. But what I DO know is, I wasn't there to mess with the Ole girl with ya. And since I wasn't there, I'll say that I'm wrong and you're right. 😁 ...you better be showing us all here that '59 your trading the '69 for.
@@racecar2933 oh yeah you know it!
👍
Is somebody's gonna do this to a 2005 Chevy impala
Keeper???
negative, just trading it off for a 59 lol
👍👍👍👍👍
Wonder if its Freddie's mom loll
dont say that XD
For sale?
Sold alrrady to my buddy
they all rotted like that
yea, bad frame design sadly
It’s fcken JUNK
You must be fun at parties
Rusty come to New York State I'll show you
hahaha yea, i believe you
how much ryan im interested
$2500, it may be sold already. but ill keep you posted
Some buty got burned
💚💙💛🙂
who cares if it runs , straight to the junk yard with that frame.
🙂👍👏
You are drowning the engine with starting ether.
This why u pistons rings set in a old chevy . in line 6 because they suck. No balls and the 03 chevy in line 6 still no balls
Ford in line 6 are the best
