    Good morning,
    thanks for your videos, they are very clear and go straight to the point. I have a question about the buzzing and the air flux: my teeth are severely crooked, and I've been told that it can be an unsolvable issue for playin the trumpet. Nevertheless, I decided to approach the trumpet anyway (one of my favourite players is Chet Baker, who was able to have a great, mellow sound altough he had a devastated mouth, so he set an encouraging example for me). Now, my question is: do you suggest me to keep tryin'? Can you really achieve a great control over sustain and intonation if you have a problem like that? Is it just a problem of learning how to control the air in my particular case, or would I be better to quit?
    Thanks again.

    • @TheBlackTrumpeter
      @TheBlackTrumpeter  7 років тому

      Good morning Denny Sofia and thank you for watching my videos! First of all I WOULD NOT advise anyone to quit especially if someone like you has set their mind to play trumpet. Yes having crooked teeth can affect your playing but if you're determined anything is possible. There's a video somewhere floating around of a boy playing trumpet with his feet because he has not arms! 😵 I had a teacher, Larry Bowen, who had a underbite and was still able to play trumpet like a boss.
      Just be mindful that everyone's anatomy is different. You and a teacher will have to work to find the most optimum trumpet angle and mouthpiece placement in order for you to blow an air stream that's not interrupted. However, you'll have to find a teacher that willing to work with you rather than encouraging you to quit.
      For starters, just make sure that your teeth are open so that you can let the airstream out. If you can do that while making your embouchure, then your can play trumpet.
      How long have you been playing trumpet?

    I have a question I have been playing off to the side for a while now and that embouchure was really inconsistent, but when I did what you showed for the airstream it was a bit more to the middle should I try an embouchure like that?

    • @TheBlackTrumpeter
      @TheBlackTrumpeter  4 роки тому

      If the more centered embouchure is more consistent for you, it give you the sound and technique you want then yes. But it's hard to prescribe if I can't see and hear it for myself to know for sure. I teach private lessons and the first lesson for all new students are free. If you would like personal feedback from me about your embouchure then lets hop on a video call. Click the link here to schedule a free lesson: bit.ly/trumpetlessons

      Your embouchure can always be rebuilt and strengthened. Just be patient and keep expectations low.

      @@TheBlackTrumpeter thank you so much. I guess the expectation part is really very important, somehow I kinda ignored that part. I'll definitely gulp in the materials you have here and hopefully find my footings over time...

    I have full lips like you, i always struggle to get middle C with both top and bottom lip inside the cup. I tend to place my bottom lip close to the edge and adjust as I go up the scale. Is this incorrect? Advice please! Oh I'm on a 1C Thanks in advance! ✊🏽

      Jonathon Agosto Thanks for reaching out! When I play the trumpet the goal for me is to play it as efficiently as possible. There are a few ways to do this:
      1) play with one embouchure...by not making drastic changes to play from low to high and vice versa
      2) playing with just enough air/air stream to play any note that is centered and full...you do this by playing quietly and allowing your body/chops figure out how to play it free of tension.
      I don't focus on equipment as much because everyone is unique and I've only had experience with a few pieces that work for me in specific situations.
      However, the best way for me to help you is to see and hear you play.
      Email me a clip of you playing a scale (slurred and tongued) at theblacktrumpeter@gmail.com
      And I'll give you some specific feedback.

    Hi - I'm a brother with Jay-Z sized lips, (1) do you use a standard sized mouthpiece and (2) do brothers with large lips use different types of mouth pieces.
