+SaloNecio haha it's just about what you're into dude, I think he is one of the most knowledgable djs out at the moment. This was a very informative video! You had to have least learned one thing from this seminar If not then idk what to tell you :(
Shame I didn't listen earlier to your sets. You - just in a few days - became my favorite EDM DJ. You hardly ever see anyone as passionate about his profession as you are, amazing energy!
I really have much respect for LBL and his teachings. One of the few that really focuses on the "theory" beyond the technical aspects. However, I don't agree that he should undermine the seamless mixing approach. Referencing it as "boring" is unnecessary. He plays on impact style music which requires a totally different style of mixing and slamming and that is fine. Classic style deep, tribal, vocal, latin, and progressive house or techno requires doses. You can't be slamming full on vocal tracks all night long but you can't certainly add tricks depending on the vibe, the place, and demographic. Afterhours at 5AM on the patio or terrace, people are done with the bang bang and dirty underground. They want to relax under the sun and listen to happy vocals. There are peak times and there are valleys. Much of the electro hard house on stage is bang bang bang. That is fine but you can't compare it to songs that develop over a course of 2-3 minutes. Certain styles of music is not meant to trick all night long. At one point, EDM style was towards the peak end of the night and it would be just 1-2 songs then go back down and come back up to another EDM hard style string. Now, EDM is played 2-6 hours straight with non-stop pounding. Nothing wrong with that but we can't dismiss the fact that different styles call for different techniques.
Brotha! How have I not come across this video up to now!?? This is easily the single most informative DJ seminar out. And it's not even close. Every single DJ needs to watch this, no matter how experienced or inexperienced. An amazing hour of education and information.
This guy knows what he's talking about! I'm djing for about 8 years now and the more years I'm djing the more I learn about the side beyond the technichal aspects of djing. These aspects are huge parts of what makes you a really experienced and good DJ. Every year I look back and can see how much I improved but in a kinda deep way which isn't easy to explain non-djs or amateur DJs. Many people don't get that you can't get a feeling for all these important years in just 1-3 years. Great to see a dope famous DJ like Laidback Luke who's trying to bring the culture and art closer to the people. Much love!
32:20 was something that really stood out to me, being able to have special tracks that no one else can find unless they come and hear your sets. Sounds like a really good opportunity for DJ Producers.. not only can we find tracks that are below radar, we can also make tracks or bootlegs, don't release them, and only play them in your sets to set you apart.
I almost not watching ANYTHING (movies/tutorials) but he is amazing. He has a lot of positive energy and he remind for me why I actually alwayes wanted to become a dj. Thank a lot
As soon as he said (they drop a hip-hop track in between out of nowhere and i say to my self "You don't know what your doing") i remembered David Guetta's set at UMF 2015 😂
One word : #1 DJ Idol. Definitely one of the first who could share the most of what he learned in 1h. And it's up to you who you really want to become!
Big thank you Laidback Luke! I really want to learn how to DJ for real and this video is easily the most pedagogical, informative, fun and simply the best video I've seen so far. DJing = Sex cracked me up, but is a great way of describing it! Keep doing what you're doing you're an awesome DJ and producer! / Eric
Luke! I have so much respect for you! Thank you so much for your Tutorials and your Seminar! I Watch this Seminar for the 4th time and i can still learn from it! I Think i can Listen to you for hours! THANK YOU! You will Always be the best!
Very interesting speech. I don't really appreciate the music style he usually plays, but certainly, his vision of the DJing world and the way he performs, makes him one of the most talented & respected DJs in the world. Respect to him
I'm becoming a DJ, and I have been wondering how to mix on the fly and this helps me understand the art of DJing. I love your DJ tips Laidback Luke!! Keep Doing It!!
Can Feel Your Passion , Love , and will to share the best of your DJing Art with us, thank you Lucas. Really nice insights to prepare a DJ set and use CDJ's as tools to expand creativity like you would on a musical instrument.
This friday (1. 7. 2016) I'll play in club for the first time and this seminar helped me how to work with crowd - for example tip with slots (techno slot for 35 min, melbourne slot,..) So I wanna thanks to Laidback, you saved me before some accident :) thanks :)
Thanks Laidback Luke as a person who is relatively new to the art, I found this video truly helpful out of most videos i've watched thanks a million and god bless brother!
though im not a professional dj your seminar here really thought me a lot about d-jing, these hobby of mine is my stress outlet and it really felt good whenever i am able to make a good mixset for myself, best hour i spent on the internet god bless man and keep rocking
l love you man, you're one of my favorite DJ's and producers. Your are a great human being. God bless you bro! Wish you have a Producer school so I can learn from one of the best.
Thank you Luke! I find it really easy to get stuck in the same DJ routine. And when I do, it is really boring. I'm going to break down the walls this Friday!
reading minds takes skill, how to read people while dj does his set.. nice one Laidback Luke.. other djs must know these skills. skills for me is not about the playlist.. its how to read people's minds and tellin ya how good you were. Excellent seminar
This was very inspirational and when you were talking about different styles of DJ-ing it made me notice that I'm doing a lot of them already and that they've come naturally! And it makes me feel so much better as a DJ to know how much creativity I have in my sets and when I'm free mixing :) Great video!
Most important thing is to KNOW your trax and I mean KNOW them. If you're trying to DJ and you simply dl mp3s and throw them on without actually listening to them and enjoying them... you're never going to reach that crowd peak that you really want.
Bilbo Bagginski man, but when i hear dis like Diplo playing 100 songs over 3 shows, how does he have the time to really listen to all of them and know them all?
Josh M professional DJ, its all he does. Personally I put all my new tracks onto cd's to listen to in the car etc. and play them as much as possible. after a while you'll be playing a track and you'll just know what to play next. bilbo's right all about knowledge.
i know that for some- this was a good re-hash of what we've been doing all these years. vinyl never left my fingertips, homie- God bless you for spreading truth!
This was really helpful I've always wondered how you kept everything organized and how you set up your sets. I really look up to you and how you do you sets live and mix on the fly almost. this is the best territorial type video I've seen. thanks for this
As great as this was I just felt that most of it was common sense. Maybe it's because I've been DJing since 86 or because I've screwed up up enough times to know what works. Either way it was enjoyable and it was great to see a major DJ want to give sound advice to other DJs.
Great man, fantastic words!! I felt the same things with monitor speackerz and other one, like my turnantables and the others of my friend, is good choise to changing at home and be prepared, i don t know to use cdjs but i know mixing with vinyl, change is good always and when u can play everywhere and every tipes of music
Really dope video, thank you VERY much Luke. From a beginning DJ to a pro I very much appreciate your style and simple approach and thorough theory teachings. If you ever offer assistance or teachings I would love to be able to ask questions to what I think is one of the purest DJ's around. I'm hoping you get to do coachella this year, I have week 1 tickets.
I read Luke had at one point become tired of techno. Seeing as I can't imagine myself listening to anything other than underground house and techno, I'm really curious of his opinions on the modern day house/techno scene. Especially the guys from Innervisions have such an interesting and unique sound that I think Luke would definitely appreciate. Great seminar btw, lots of respect for Luke.
James Robertson Maybe he purposely boycotted it. There are plenty of DJs who have boycotted it intentionally because they don't care about what it stands for.
I haven't do a live show in my life , but i have done a lot of crazy stuff in my bedroom some are full set using my own mashup and stuff , Thanks for those Very Important advice's
Maaatttttt bbyyy ***** ,and Sheldon C. Dingle Jr. , William Pina - Beautiful video! He's totally awesome. I think this is cool for you guise to see. :)

+SaloNecio ^ this guy doesn't get it
+Lawrence Fernandes then i dont get your point of view of watching this video lol
+SaloNecio haha it's just about what you're into dude, I think he is one of the most knowledgable djs out at the moment. This was a very informative video! You had to have least learned one thing from this seminar
If not then idk what to tell you :(
ahh the irony
I just tuned in to watch this awesome video again and realized Luke was taking a selfie while she was introducing him. Classic.
Shame I didn't listen earlier to your sets. You - just in a few days - became my favorite EDM DJ. You hardly ever see anyone as passionate about his profession as you are, amazing energy!
EDM djs are wank pop gay stuff

One of the realest DJs out there! Stays true to the game and recognizes the difference between producers and DJs!

I really like his personality ! He is really good and seems really kind :-)
He is. Talk to him on Twitter. He will reply to your tweet. Super down to earth guy...
He is the reason why I worked for a two years and got myself CDJs and DJM, now I am practicing every day with the equipment.

Wow! Just wow! Massive congrats to LbL for that.

James Bannister I do the same. Works well. However, my girlfriend gets tired of listening to the same tracks all the time. lol
TSCREW1 haha I know that feeling, my girlfriend doesn't like any of my music!
i know that for some- this was a good re-hash of what we've been doing all these years. vinyl never left my fingertips, homie- God bless you for spreading truth!

This guy !!! Best DJ in the world ! Highly underrated !
As great as this was I just felt that most of it was common sense. Maybe it's because I've been DJing since 86 or because I've screwed up up enough times to know what works. Either way it was enjoyable and it was great to see a major DJ want to give sound advice to other DJs.
Kan niet wachten tot volgend jaar, hoop dat je er dan weer bent

Yeaaaahhhh... Pre recorded......... Riiiiiight...
I rarely comment but what a great seminar Luke!!
Why is Laidback Luke not no.1 DJ Mag DJ?
Because that poll is more like "Top 100 DJ FANS"
James Robertson because DJ mag is a popularity contest, not the most skilled dj.
James Robertson Maybe he purposely boycotted it. There are plenty of DJs who have boycotted it intentionally because they don't care about what it stands for.
+James Robertson BECAUSE HE IS NOT THE NO 1 lol
+James Robertson unfortunately DJ Mag poll is more "Top 100 most popular producers" not "Top 100 most talented DJs"
Such a great video and an inspiration!
This is gold !
I haven't do a live show in my life , but i have done a lot of crazy stuff in my bedroom some are full set using my own mashup and stuff , Thanks for those Very Important advice's
Love the music . ❤️
what he does at 43:30 is known as double drop mixing, a style of mixing that originated and was made popular in drum and bass, notably used by Andy C
Thank you Luke.
