I love what Denon is doing with competing with Pioneer for higher level setups and evolving their technology. Not only will they keep working at their usability, but price competition, and just a chance for preference for DJ's. Just good for the entire music industry, really hoping Traktor comes up with a similar setup to compete.
He's not a sell out he just wants something for him to feel more comfortable and a different way of playing his music and mixing skills if anyone wants to say he's a sellout then your stuck on your pioneer is the top 1 their other companies too
This is the first serious bit of competition for pioneer Cdjs. I've used pioneer for years but seriously considering an alternative for the first time. Good quality and some seriously good features.
To me, CDJs always lacked the soul of the turntable and the creative capability of controllers. They were like the boring in-between thing, but they were seriously adopted nonetheless. So, I have turntables and I had controllers. Now I have this thing... It's honestly really impressive. Controller creative functions with solid platter and pitch faders to give enough of the turntable feel, but no laptop required.
"I was like ... I am very comfortable with working the way I am, but then when Denton showed me the amount of cash 💰 they were going to give me, I was like... this is amazing 😉 " loooool x
"There's a range of new things I've been missing all these years." Only if you haven't been using Traktor!!! Gosh, I can only chuckle when we talk about being at the 'forefront' of DJing.
Not all Dj's want to use laptops, myself included - it's just personal choice. These players are quite tempting, a lot of good features. I like the fact you can change the colours, have the artwork displayed in the centre of the jog rather than that crappy vinyl one pioneer offer. I like the fact 1 player doubles up to 2. I like the fact you can plug 3 USB devices into each player as well as an sd card. I'm sure they take a lot of getting used to, as with everything people are scared to try something different. These are actually cheaper than the nxs2 decks. I'm curious to know if they'd link to my djm2000 mixer. I also don't like where the USB ports are on them - I like to keep my gear flightcased even when in use, so access may be an issue? Seriously thinking about switching from pioneer when these things get released.
Another thing: When prepping tracks and creating cue points, you set the quantization to 1 beat. He did not do this ahead of time. If you do this, the cues are right on point, as are loops that you create to save. Once you have the track prepped, you move quantize back to smaller incremements so that you can playback your various cues as finger drummers would.
It seems to be a good choice.... price against CDJ and performance seems to be a good choice for a lot of people out there....Hope to see more popular DJ switching to DENON....great choice Luke and good look.....practice practice practice ;-)
This is the edited version, he didn't do very well with the masterclass to be fair, there is a lot to talk about on this player and I felt he needed a script or prompting to remind himself of key features. I can't wait to see his future videos, which i'm sure will be much better. The Prime is ace, it is a beast. But will it take over remains to be seen, not because it's not good enough because it most certainly is. However the 'Industry' is full of the lazy and ignorant who will complain about Pioneer tax but dismiss any alternative before it is even released or fully understood.
Scripting as said already would make you more comfortable: Even tough we know who you are and many people are happy with your support for such things that can impact the whole industry.
Never thought of buying Denon DJ equipment until now. Wow great content, the power cords and usb fail is solved and the key lock is insane! Also i've never mixed in key before and watching this, I just want go and mix in key. Thumbs Up.
Some of his explanations aren't exactly reflective of someone who has prepared their presentation, or who has studied the unit extensively yet , but I dig the product and I dig LBB. I just think they should have given him more time to read the manual and play. Example: the secondary loop mode doesn't "make the loop shorter" - it functions as 8 divisions of the looper. To the far left it's smaller divisions, to the far right larger. Far left is 1/4 beat loop, far right is 32 beats. On the fly you can stutter different loop lengths. In the primary loop mode you recall stored loops with their respective lengths (user determined prior to show). The engineer brains in the room are probably hoping for explanations like this :) The PRIME SC5000 rocks so far. Get one!
I was thinking to buy a denon mixer X 1800 but I go with djm 750 mk2 ( both almost same price) in case I can sell djm more easily ... and my cdjs are primitive top tech I can't afford but denon providing more options which is excellent I saw denon set up on a beach club it was eye catching ...
I find the best thing for this set up that he didn't touch base on is that the players can auto analyze so u don't have to pre beat grid everything like you do on rekordbox when playing with Cdjs
Is it possible to download a bunch of tracks, maybe even from Laidback Luke, in just one folder ? I already have like 80-90 tracks but im too lazy to keep searching :-)
A lot of people whining in here. If Luke gets excited by this setup cheers for him then, but at the end of the day every controller setup does the same thing whether it's cheap or expensive. Some brands does a different thing better than the other and vice versa. It's the same thing for DAWS. I find this denon setup exciting but also a bit overwhelmed since i don't the need for all those features. For example the Traktor s8 and s5 are some really cool controllers but the touch strip thingy really is a deal breaker for me. But the 8 cue button and other features gets me excited! I think it's awesome Luke just took a shot with a different brand and sticked to it. What i don't understand is these Pioneer fan boys etc. hammering luke for his decision as if was going to impact other people than Luke. It's ridiculous!
Couldn't agree more, fair play to him. I use pioneer cdjs but I'm really excited about Denon. This is a serious setup, More powerful than any pioneer setup and with some amazing features not seen on pioneer. Competition is only good news.
Yeah Denon may of paid him SO WHAT... Besides making music for the love there is also the business side to get paid! Props to him for having the balls to do this seeing that Pioneer dominates the market....
quick question - can you adjust the start and end point of loops on this players, in a similar way to cdjs? you know. when you're in a loop and and hit start or end loop and can adjust the lenght of the loop with the jog wheel?
Man I wish I had known about this last year when I first started buying shit mi just would of bought this and not bought a Mac and a damn ddj sx2. Like damn this does EVERYTHING
clubs won't change to this anytime soon maybe never... but this one is really good... i mean unplug the usb and power cord and the track still plays... and my favorite is slicing and looping and ya can just mess around with it so its really good... yeah i wud stick to pioneer but i definitely wud give this a shot
it only remains playing for like 5 seconds.. by that time u won't even realize the player was unplugged and probably won't even have enough time to plug it back in..
5 seconds?? lol then that sucks... didnt think about it how would you know that the power cord was unplugged otherwise? if your eyes are gonna be on the decks and some random guy dies it without you knowing
If Denon wants to sell alot of these units, they have to make the changeover from Rekordbox or Serato as painless as possible. The thought of redoing my hot cues mermory points active loops on 3000 tracks makes me sick to my gut.
Philip Whittingham Actually, the Denon software uses your Serato cues, hot points, memory, etc. So basically you don't have to do all that over again. It's called Denon Engine and it is their proprietary software.
laidback luke. you are my inspiration. would've loved to be there earlier, but couldnt make it. please reply to this and do another in my mind video. thanks!
And nobody asked about FX section. So I am asking about FX section. I have Xone DB2. IS it comparable with audio quality. So far only Xone DB series has truly transparent FX in DJ mixer.
Is it me , or does it seems to look like Laidback Luke is a Little bit Intimidated by this Beast🤔??? I know this is ALOT to take in from this monster, just my Observation.
i guess many of the features that button press on pioneer are now on denon touchscreens... i guess sweaty hands (like me) will have a problem on touchscreens... i rather want the touchy feels... but the processor even the emergency track... ughhh that some features pioneer need... and we must understand laidback luke needs to adapt the new environment... its like ur studying math but ur exam is science... thats the reason why he had so many mistakes in this seminar
U realy Need to see the Time remainng when you are just mixing breaks and Drops. Memory Loops and Beat Jumping nothing new for Pionner. Just normal Controllers/MediaPlayers.
noreaction probably but I ask, why would you want to use Serato with this?? This thing is BASICALLY a laptop/controller. It has its OWN "Serato" called Engine 2.0.
Why carry around dennon CD players when every one of these features (other than emergency loop and dual layers) is already in a $99 copy of traktor? 2 Kontrol x1's or 2 XONE k2's and you'd be traveling much lighter.
outside of america, real clubs have fixed setups, which is why pioneer are club leaders, which is when the next dj pulls out your usb stick, won't be going to london, ibiza and magaluff etc and start setting up your stuff inbetween sets
Sorry Luke, but your arguments at the beginning were a joke. The new CDJs have the touchscreen aswell. And who needs his logo on the decks? It's useless.
Still kinda preffer 8 large pads in 2 rows rather than one line of small buttons. I understand lack of space for it but Pioneer layout on controllers is my proffered to see. Great to see Denon with new player because it will force lazy fucks form Pioneer to stop milking one long outdated CDJ cow and release new type of players based on controllers. Your move Pioneer.
DDJ-SX has 8 pads for Hot Cues, Roll, Slicer and Sampler. It has Beat Jump. It has double players. It has pretty good keylock and mix in key (in Serato). The only thing it hasn't got is a touchscreens but you can buy a laptop with a touchscreen if you want. Almost forgot - no anything for emergency but I think for a 4 year old hardware that is tethered to a PC it's excusably.
Denan can do what Pion don't (Denon can do what Pioneer don't, video game reference). But to be honest, denon hasn't made it compatible yet with serato although many new controllers and CDJs for some reason have stayed away from Serato. But again controller and CDJ options to buy are there. I don't have these in my house so I don't know if they work on serato but I do have engine on my computer so it's similar to rekordbox but in different colors, that's pretty much it. What I'm amazed are these: The roll function. Back on my controller (the SZ), whenever I pressed one of the rolls for a long time, I would have to take a guess where that is gonna go. But you would have to listen to that part of the song if you want to know where it goes next. And having the other beginner DJs (while teaching them), they try to do rolls, it just sounds offbeat and not where it's suppose to go. But with this, taking only half of it loop and the other continue as if nothing happened to it is gonna save me a lot of time from guessing where it would go next. Next, taking out a USB port while track is playing, that to me isn't amazing but it's definitely something to put into just in case if you accidentally knock out the USB by mistake (which it really shouldn't), it's just a nice feature to have there. One of my all time favorites, the CDJs don't shut off immediately and gives you 9 seconds to reconnect power. That to me is brillant. In the past, when thunderstorms would occur outside of clubs and parties, once the building gets struck by lighting or if the power shuts off unexpectedly, everything you had (from the controller to the speakers) are turned off immediately. Which really sucks especially when you have a crowd of people dancing. (Which at my work I tend to make a little joke in where I would say to someone when they get ready for a gig "I hope the power doesn't shut off unexpectedly" and someone else would be like "Relax, it's gonna be fine. We're gonna have a good time." So it's a little joke I tend to do on my co-worker once in a while). But with these feature giving you 9 seconds to reconnect gave me an idea of taking that feature from the controller and putting it onto a speaker that would give about 30 seconds to reconnect before it shuts down completely. Only problem, how would you get electric current to stay inside the CDJ and speakers for a very long time if the power outage goes on for say like 20 minutes or even an hour. This literally opened me up to think something crazy as a DJ to see what kind of features they would put into the DJ machine. (I do like to design controllers and many other DJ machines by the way, I do have sketches of what I would love to see on a controller or a CDJ, except CDs are long gone now but still usable). Those are the ones I got hyped about. But again, I'm still looking around for a controller or a CDJ that does Serato, traktor, VirtualDJ, Rekordbox, and Engine all into one package on one CDJ or Controller.
Exactly and that is what makes them so great. All the features of the latest controllers, but without the need for a laptop. I just don't understand why people don't get it. This is awesome! Fuck maintaining and traveling with a laptop. That's what made the Nexus players so appealing to begin with. This does what they do, but much, much better. I think once the Pioneer fanboys get a chance to play on the SC5000, more will recognize just how freakin' awesome they really are.
How much money does the guy get paid 🤔😂This is bullshit it’s all about the mix Technics did it for years without the bullshit and Pioneer change the game which was fine it was a big jump put this is bull DjEz pioneer Carl Cox pioneer most big DJ pioneer it’s like apple vs Samsung l know what phone l have 💯🎼🎧 remember it’s all about the track selection and the mix when DJing and also how much practice you put into it👍🏾👍🏾💯🎼🎼🎧
Don't judge based on the video. They flopped here. They should have adopted the NI approach and had actual audio engineers/programmers explain the features. It's actually really cool. I came here to get info on my unit and was like "dude, I read through some getting started stuff and fiddled for an hour and I could explain it better to a new user" - but his job isn't to present data. It's to dj. Denon, get a nerd up here to assist!
There is nothing new, that i feel for... Can't imagine replacing my nexus players, and I can't see the clubs switching the club standard either.. Sorry Laidback Luke, but you are probrably paid to say alot of this "shit"... Sorry..
i think the dual layer stuff and the analysis on the device itself is really nice and would be a reason to switch from a cdj to a denon players. But yes it will be hard for denon to become the new club standard !
Well the analysis is okay, but why would you not analyse your collection before going to a gig otherwise? Nice to have vs NEED to have. One thing I like though, is the logo on the jog. That would be nice to have aswell... I would say: I don't know what denon's intentions is here - and I might sound like a Pioneer fanboi (and maybe I am?) - but I really don't know if Laidback Luke is saying all of this, free of interests... Man... Look at how hyped he is, about the hotcues... Every CDJ outthere has hotcues... It just looks like he is to promote the product, which imo also looks like a product war against Denon and Pioneer... I just think its way too hard to switch the standard, also I would be dissapointed to show up, and have denon players instead one day. But agian... my opinion..
Iam using pioneer products for a while now and i really like them, the design is great and better compared to the denons i think and yes of course you don't need those features, put when is comes to pricing denon clearly wins. But it's good that finally somone is challenging pioneer to maybe create better cdjs.
Hm not the best skills i´ve seen from you... Hope you get better used to work on the Denon's. Because you perform better on the Pioneer CDJ's. I'm not really a big touchscreen fan, you have to look too much down on the players.
Pioneer needs competition So that their CDJs can evolve and get cheaper at the same time.
So this is just good for the consumer.
yeah that's right. 2000$ for a fuking cdjs thats way to much ! Let's see what the new xdj or cdj generation offers
Agreed, the price is ridiculous
the prices for dj gear have always been ridiculous..
unfortunately the Denon DJ SC5000 costs 2,000 $ too :(
yeah but you dont need some many. two denons = 4 cdjs because of the dual layer system
I love what Denon is doing with competing with Pioneer for higher level setups and evolving their technology. Not only will they keep working at their usability, but price competition, and just a chance for preference for DJ's. Just good for the entire music industry, really hoping Traktor comes up with a similar setup to compete.
DopeItsKris Traktor needs an affordable 4 channel mixer with simple transport controls. Apart from that just work on making the software more stable.
He's not a sell out he just wants something for him to feel more comfortable and a different way of playing his music and mixing skills if anyone wants to say he's a sellout then your stuck on your pioneer is the top 1 their other companies too

Price dropped to 999

Haha this is so funny
Hahaha funny but tbf the equipment is decent, it’s like a combination of pioneer cdj2000s and a ddj rb or similar controller
i was like i was very comfortable with working the way i am until Denon Prime dropped 45% ..... !!!
Holy... those cd players are really cool! and I love mixing on Denon turntables, too. Saludos from La Paz, Боливии.
море для Боливии!
Aguante denon carajo evolucionando como nunca. Lo esta pasando a pionner en ventas y en calidad y mas innovando para los dj´s.

So what? His forte isnt in giving speeches and talking for company's!
Scripting as said already would make you more comfortable:
Even tough we know who you are and many people are happy with your support for such things that can impact the whole industry.
De los muy pocos que comparten lo que saben, thanks
thank you for sharing it with us soo fast
Never thought of buying Denon DJ equipment until now. Wow great content, the power cords and usb fail is solved and the key lock is insane! Also i've never mixed in key before and watching this, I just want go and mix in key. Thumbs Up.
I love you😊😊 you're one of my biggest inspirations, when it comes to djing... thanks for the review hope to get to test this out here soon.
Great POV I enjoy these "In my mind" videos. Go Luke! #WhatWhat
I've been looking forward to seeing this :)
Some of his explanations aren't exactly reflective of someone who has prepared their presentation, or who has studied the unit extensively yet , but I dig the product and I dig LBB. I hate to be that guy, but all these people who bashed controllers suddenly like all the features that have existed for years on them
Why the fuck are u comparing a controller with a prime player?
*do you can use the pitch adjustment during layering (e.g. B) and it wont affect the other layer?*
Saludos desde México
Para mi el mejor dj del mundo
saludos de otro mexicano mas :D
I find the best thing for this set up that he didn't touch base on is that the players can auto analyze so u don't have to pre beat grid everything like you do on rekordbox when playing with Cdjs
Nothing laidback about a scrillion pound Luke .
Congrats
Is it possible to download a bunch of tracks, maybe even from Laidback Luke, in just one folder ? I already have like 80-90 tracks but im too lazy to keep searching :-)

I'm using 2. And love it
quick question - can you adjust the start and end point of loops on this players, in a similar way to cdjs?
you know. when you're in a loop and and hit start or end loop and can adjust the lenght of the loop with the jog wheel?
T4Z3R yes
Hey 'LL @ What age do you think is too late to start Djing or taking it to the Next Level in the Industry?
Luke is a great Teacher
Man I wish I had known about this last year when I first started buying shit mi just would of bought this and not bought a Mac and a damn ddj sx2. Like damn this does EVERYTHING

Can I hide the moving waveforms and the BPM counters? And what's the pitch resolution on Wide? Thank you.
Why would you cover the waveform and counters?
I find them distracting.
laidback luke. you are my inspiration. would've loved to be there earlier, but couldnt make it. please reply to this and do another in my mind video.
thanks!
Very insightful
Maybe I'm just not a creative enough DJ, I don't know, but they still missing the control pads that allows you to play Stems?
what i thhink bout thhis stuff is -the dj focus more on electronic than music.vinyls pioners cjd-400-1000 is enough.
Which song is played at 8:27...totally feelin' that one
Give us 1hour dj set with this new gear Luke please
And nobody asked about FX section. So I am asking about FX section. I have Xone DB2. IS it comparable with audio quality. So far only Xone DB series has truly transparent FX in DJ mixer.
❤ you the man
Is it me , or does it seems to look like Laidback Luke is a Little bit Intimidated by this Beast🤔??? I know this is ALOT to take in from this monster, just my Observation.
Also, why no focus on the mixer? Is the mixer not new?
16:51. I saw a ninja
That would be Illegal lol
Do you mean the bloke sneaking around the back, or Laidback Luke blocking invisible punches?
i actually dig these players but i don't think i can ever give up my dam from pioneer!
i guess many of the features that button press on pioneer are now on denon touchscreens... i guess sweaty hands (like me) will have a problem on touchscreens... i rather want the touchy feels... but the processor even the emergency track... ughhh that some features pioneer need... and we must understand laidback luke needs to adapt the new environment... its like ur studying math but ur exam is science... thats the reason why he had so many mistakes in this seminar
You can use the knob and buttons to the right of the screen to control the screen also.. Just like Pio :)
I dont know why denon gets that much hate in the comments. These CD Players are awesome, only expensive
I hope he still plays for pioneer dj sound show this year 😐 since he's a Denon dj now.....
@12:20 Did he just fucking pull out the power cord?
Yea buddy!
U realy Need to see the Time remainng when you are just mixing breaks and Drops. Memory Loops and Beat Jumping nothing new for Pionner. Just normal Controllers/MediaPlayers.
When will it be compatible with serato?
noreaction probably but I ask, why would you want to use Serato with this?? This thing is BASICALLY a laptop/controller. It has its OWN "Serato" called Engine 2.0.
Does anyone know what IEM's (earphones) he uses?
J Alex Beats Tour 2
Yea thx man
The video would've be MORE Informative if He had did a FULL FLEDGED Mix using just 1 sc5000
Major parts of the new features come from the software perspective of Serato.
WE DON'T WANT NO PANCAKE MIX
I hate that Pioneer has a monopoly so I am glad that laidbackluke sold his soul.
Everything he tried to do, he fucked up.
Get powercon connections for the power on the back instead and they will never slip of....
you only need 2 to mix 4 tracks, so its way cheaper than 4 pioneer cdj's
15:42 4 CDJs? Or 4 Denon DJs?
Pioneer djm 900 nexus2 mixer looks so much better and more professional in my view
but the look isnt the most important thing
I can't imagine that Denon isn't paying him for this.
can't wait til all dj equipment goes wireless. all those cables gets messy
Now you see what money can do..
LUKE LUKE Laidback Luke
Sorry Luke, but your arguments at the beginning were a joke. The new CDJs have the touchscreen aswell. And who needs his logo on the decks? It's useless.
His argument was bad but their are some serious advantages to having the denons.
Whatta guy
Song at 3:33
So basically he now need to use 6 players ? Each player can act as two
jamie campbell Kinda like DJ Controllers
3:30 track?

nah bruh just kidding... check my new track :D
all superstar dj's do is play the same track list over and over in each set they do and their shows, they don't need fancy equipment
jamie campbell not LLuke
l post yea, people like Luke and TJR are real DJs. Not like Martin Garrix, DV&LM or The Chainsmokers. Those dudes are more or less producers than DJs.
Now Denon can do what Pioneer DDJ-SX could back in 2013, with Serato.
Enzo990X no i does something else
DDJ-SX has 8 pads for Hot Cues, Roll, Slicer and Sampler. It has Beat Jump. It has double players. It has pretty good keylock and mix in key (in Serato). The only thing it hasn't got is a touchscreens but you can buy a laptop with a touchscreen if you want. Almost forgot - no anything for emergency but I think for a 4 year old hardware that is tethered to a PC it's excusably.
Enzo990X pioneer could hve done that but yes Denon didn't make it 100% from scratch
but it is going to change!!
Enzo990X I had this thoughts all the time...like this is nothing new, I don't get why Luke is that amazed ?!
What I'm amazed are these:
The roll function.
But again, I'm still looking around for a controller or a CDJ that does Serato, traktor, VirtualDJ, Rekordbox, and Engine all into one package on one CDJ or Controller.
dammmmmmmnn😰
they are just like a deck of a controller all in one.. nothing new
Exactly and that is what makes them so great.
So many glitches I saw even tho he hit the button they didn't react instantly. Very bad for live performance
Laidback Luke
I do not think so I'm in shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock
If you close your Eyes.. you think he is talking about Pioneers DDJ's 😂
How much money does the guy get paid 🤔😂This is bullshit it’s all about the mix Technics did it for years without the bullshit and Pioneer change the game which was fine it was a big jump put this is bull DjEz pioneer Carl Cox pioneer most big DJ pioneer it’s like apple vs Samsung l know what phone l have 💯🎼🎧 remember it’s all about the track selection and the mix when DJing and also how much practice you put into it👍🏾👍🏾💯🎼🎼🎧
the demonstration parts were fucking awful lmao
I heard Denon software is crap
ohm ohm gimik
Is good for competition but Denon are far from the good quality pioneer does! I know they pay you for this but I prefer Pioneer ever
ok so either pioneer gets their shit together and evolves the shit out of the cdjs and makes them cheaper or denon dj becomes the new standard
It will take time tho. Pioneer's stuff is definitely getting dated (particularly Serato DJ) but not so much that clubs will get this setup immediately
14:50 klinkt als een raar accentje 😂😂😂
I'm such a big laidbackluke like fan but demon sounds super cheap.
Plus Everything he introduced sounded so basic and boring
tru. It's a step up from the Nexus 2000 but a lot of the features he presented weren't that impressive.
It's to dj. Denon, get a nerd up here to assist!
there is a video on youtube where LL is playing a 1,5 hour techno set on de denons, but it's not with the top view like the Pioneer DJ sounds show
So how much did he get paid to say this?
Do you not think that Pioneer pay DJs to promote their products? Of course they do. So why does that matter?
Oliver Heldens is switching as well if I am correct. Saw him getting Denon lessons on his Snapchat. Tiesto too.
Iam using pioneer products for a while now and i really like them, the design is great and better compared to the denons i think and yes of course you don't need those features, put when is comes to pricing denon clearly wins.
But it's good that finally somone is challenging pioneer to maybe create better cdjs.
Heldens I think is an ambassador also.
Mixing on one player.:. :) horrible :D
Hm not the best skills i´ve seen from you... Hope you get better used to work on the Denon's. Because you perform better on the Pioneer CDJ's. I'm not really a big touchscreen fan, you have to look too much down on the players.
