Every jiujitsu player needs to watch this. It might be the single most important video on guard retention I’ve ever seen, and I’ve watched a LOT of them. Thanks for making this!
I can't believe that after so many guard retention instructionals out there yours seems to be one of the most simple and accurate to grasp! So refreshing
"the feet have eyes"...great teaching concept (and ironic that you have a tat of an eyeball on your hand.....get two more for your feet). So many great concepts here. Thank you so much for this.
Just found your channel and been loving your content. Much appreciated for developing my game. Also coincidentally started a new job and your academy is next door, hope to drop in one day. Small world.
Things that seemed obvious but were crucial to be reminded of. And also some that I didn't know about. I always knew about knees to chest but never about head to knee. Thanks man. Maybe I'll not get outside passed as much now
I’m coming back from elbow surgery with some extended focus on guard retention. This is one of the best (mostly) arm-free retention videos I’ve seen. Thank you!
I've watched a ton of gaurd retention instructionals and this was the most comprehensive. Any suggestions on exercises/movements/stretches to help open/strengthen hip flexors. I'm 225lbs find it a bit more challenging to get my knees close to my chest. Thanks, Junny!
I've been wondering why I'm getting passed to North south even though I keep my knees to my chest. It's because I'm not facing my feet towards my opponent! Thanks!
These are awesome. Is there something similar for when they're working to push your legs directly to one side, rather than just pushing the knee away to open space?
@junnyocasio I'm 225 pounds and about 5'11", I recently began really embracing gaurd retention and attacks from gaurd. However, my hip flexors are struggling to open up no matter what stretches I do. Any suggestions on stretches and/or workout regimens for this?
I was looking for a solution for a while too, but the simple answer is to do the good old long time passive stretch. Sit in poses for 5 minutes, then repeat. Do it for 30 minutes a day, and in a month you'll be significantly more flexible.
For having your feet always facing him (particularly when your opponent goes north south), I have a hard time doing this movement. What muscles should I look to stretch/mobilize to get better at this movement?
Well, you should be able yo at least have the bottom of your feet face the person, but ideally, if they go north south, I would not stay in the north south even with good gaurd retention. I would say hip flexors needs to stretch to do it a bit better

Yeah, I'm lmao. I forgot about my hand tattoo. Thank you so much for watching 👀
Such a simple concept but has completely changed the way I view guard retention and it’s free content! So amazing
Appreciate you watching. Share with your friends.
Thanks for sharing this. Now I "only" need to work on my guard retention, abs and flexibility. I will get better 🙂

This is exactly the guard retention video I needed! As a shorter guy all the taller players spin me around and pass. Great details and drills! Thanks!

Seems to be a constant question I will make a video about this
Flexibility is key
Flexibility make play a factor but it isn't the only thing🙃
I've been wondering why I'm getting passed to North south even though I keep my knees to my chest. It's because I'm not facing my feet towards my opponent! Thanks!
Makes a huge difference right?
These are awesome. Is there something similar for when they're working to push your legs directly to one side, rather than just pushing the knee away to open space?
Do you have a guard retention instructional?
I do not but I will do a basic one soon and I'll put some more basic high level guard retention instruction on here
I cannot do the first drill very well , im not sure if its a flexibility thing or a core strengh thing
Very nice bro 👍💯🔥
