I remember an episode that happened when I was around 10 or so, back in the late 70's. Scientology used to put articles in the paper, a "personality test." I took it, and was contacted less than a week later by a representative. Conveniently, they were down the road from my house. They invited me to their office to "discuss my results." Back then, Scientology wasn't on the radar as a cult, or even as a religion. So I went there, because it was down the road, and y'all, these people literally tried to sell hundreds of dollars of literature to a 10-year-old. They tried to get me to buy all this stuff. Luckily, my mother was a progressive seeker, and she'd taught me to question EVERYTHING. I told them to eff off, in 10-year-old language. The fact that they would try to recruit a CHILD is disgusting. Let me reiterate: THEY TRIED TO RECRUIT A 10-YEAR-OLD.
Leah remini filed a missing persons report on her. The police told her they cant say more than that shes safe and alive. Idk what that means, she may be in witness protection or theyre building a case on scientology
Like any "religious" organization I'm sure they just line the pockets of anyone that has the capability to do just that. and like many things in the US legal system, laws are only laws if you're in a certain tax bracket, once you have enough financial clout you can get away with fucking anything.
Funnily enough, my next door neighbour is currently the no.1 target for the UK Scientology branch. He's also an ex-cult member who's recently completed his book on the experience. It's because of people like this man that me and other children knew to stay far away from anything scientology. I'm so sorry you had to put yourself at risk for speaking out but me and many others thank you.
One time I had a recruiter convince me to see a movie and it was boring blah blah blah how scientology can make you great but at the end tried to sell me courses/books to keep learning but I told them I had no money
@@Robespierre-lI I was walking home from school and the recruiter phrased the question asking if I wanted to see a movie, didn’t really want to but because their was also a group of people they gathered from the street, I sort of just went along.
I was pulled in from the street and had all this procedure, the test, the movie. It all seemed dodgy as ****, so I went along with it all to see where it would lead, observing them, seeing how it all worked. I got to know a few of them, including some deep into it and living in shared Scientology houses. After some time visiting and hanging out with these guys from time to time, I was invited to go to Saint Hill Manor for an event. The bus was free, so I thought I might as well see what that was all about. All these people in fake military uniforms and stuff. They never captured me. Their manipulation techniques didn't work on me. I learnt basic auditing, which is effectively hypnotic regression. I used that later on my GF at the time, to track down trauma and stuff. I think this part is valid. The rest of it, the megalomania, the deification of LRH, the manipulation and so on, really not my thing. But I can see how the core trauma relief stuff was working for some of these people. Shame they couldn't find what they needed outside of Scientology. Pretty much the same for any mental health issue, I guess. We're pretty useless at treating trauma and PTSD etc in Britain. I ended up in Peru doing Ayahuasca for my trauma. Nothing available in Britain matches the efficiency of going through hell in a plant-based altered state and vomitting up your guts, so long as you find the right people to do it with.
It''s very fascinating to hear about the concept of cults and the psychology behind it. The fact that they feel the need to harras people who left, speaks volumes about the organisation.
imagine harassing someone for 16 years... wow these people are nuts and must not even have lives of their own. how do you have that much time? absolute madness. It's a cult for sure.
I've of course heard about Scientology, but never really understood much about it. This is an excellent video with an excellent speaker, thanks for making it.
Even Miscavige's parents had to escape to get out of scientology. On the matter of cults, when I got the first visit by the Jehovah witnesses at the house I now live in, I asked them a number of questions about the origins of the Bible and they were somewhat dumbfounded. On their 2nd visit I simply told them I don't waste time with cults and they walked away.
They were dumbfounded because they are dumb. Seriously, they scored second to bottom for education levels from a list of at least 50 world religions in a study.
My mum joined Scientology to make sure I'd be okay and ended up spending eight years involved. She left on the day it was suggested I might be 'declared Suppressive'. I refused to 'disconnect' from anyone while in the group, so my family remained whole. Thanks so much for your concern🙂
@@nicolevazquez9664 As you say, my family is fine. When my mum was told she'd have to disconnect from me if I spoke out against Scientology, she left. Outside of years of vile harassment, I've suffered no harm by leaving Scientology. I am healthy, happy, surrounded by good friends (none of whom would accept an order to 'disconnect' from me). 8:20 This was one of the most imp questions, the e-meter (galvanometer), which is the instrument used by Scientology to create the illusion that they’re a combination of religion + science&technology. Although the E-meter could help in detecting mental distress, it can’t detect truth. Simply imagining an elephant crushing you will make its needle fall and give a read, thus you are auditing your imagination…and that…is endless. Ideas like an oppressive Xenu galactic overlord, implants and being possessed by ‘body thetans’ are deeply disturbing and expectedly give E-meter reads or show “charge” that needs to be handled…but it’s just not real…again, all imagined and put in your heads as the problem to overcome. It’s pure placebo. The E-meter was one of LRH’s best pseudo-science tricks. People need to talk more about the E-meter because it’s one of the elements that ‘sell’ Scientology the most and what they use as ‘proof’ of their veracity and technological angle…all bs.

Yea it’s crazy how can they think like that because of the pain the mother will cry or shout. Unbelievable
I wanna point out, cuz I almost didn't process it, he says Freud stopped using dietetics because Freud found it made patients too *dependent* on the therapist. For the Scientologists it's working exactly as intended
Amazing and disgusting at the same time. Thank you for speaking out. More people need to hear about this
This man must be protected at all costs. He has essentially given his life to tell people the truth. Thank you Sir, for your invaluable contribution to our society. May god bless you deeply ❤
Thank You Jon 🙏🏽💕
If Jon “happens” to pass away, we know WHO did it. AND the PUBLIC will come after YOU “ scientologist “.
I remember an episode that happened when I was around 10 or so, back in the late 70's. Scientology used to put articles in the paper, a "personality test." I took it, and was contacted less than a week later by a representative. Conveniently, they were down the road from my house. They invited me to their office to "discuss my results."
Back then, Scientology wasn't on the radar as a cult, or even as a religion.
A ten year old? How did they expect you to pay?! 😮

They've been harassing him for the last few years. We've even had knocks on the door by what we believed to be members of the cult trying to bad mouth my neighbour (luckily we were warned beforehand).
He's got a UA-cam channel, Apostate Alex where he talks all things Scientology.

This world is messed up, that's for sure.

@@matureyoungman And it so important to realize. The people most vulnerable to authoritarian abuse are those who have convinced themselves that they are invulnerable.
Yeah, but you can be somewhat aware of what extent. Scientology is never going to get me.
How intelligent, often professional people can be duped like this is beyond me. I wish you all the best with the rest of your life.
He said it himself. He was 19 and heartbroken and looking for something to connect to.
So some kind person took advantage and introduced him to a cult where he felt accepted...at first
Intelligence isn't the same as common sense. Some people are just gullible and will believe anything to escape depression.
just simple mind control and indoctrination, the same way normal people can become indoctrinated to think like a Marine.
It has nothing to do with intelligence, it has all to do with current trauma a person has
Being heartbroken and vulnerable at 19 isn't uncommon... he was a kid at the time. It's not hard to manipulate people at that age.
Kudos to Jon for not only having the insight and wisdom to leave, but the courage to speak out and warn others. Fascinating Q and A!

@@josephreak_godzigelion Hi Joseph! You pointing out a very painful mistake that created this nightmare you spent more than half your life in is the biggest act of humility and generosity. Thank you Jon. Here's to the a future that is brighter for, and everyone who are in cults still
Just reading Jons book and its a real insight into the con man that brought about Scientology, of only its followers knew the true story
No money - that would do it!😊
Why did you agree to watch it? Just curious
@@Robespierre-lI I was walking home from school and the recruiter phrased the question asking if I wanted to see a movie, didn’t really want to but because their was also a group of people they gathered from the street, I sort of just went along.
I had a similar experience
That's a pleasant surprise to see Jon!

25,000 scientologists in the whole world? That is so much lower than I had imagined
Yes I thought the same. But 25,000 too many

I hope he won his family back at least. I can only imagine the struggle to clear his name for one.
It's amazing what people will believe.
I was "read" once. I was a kid though. Just thought it was very awkward and goofy.
