- Hey Everyone!
I've been pulling a couple "all nighters" these last few days... Finally got my area all cleaned up and this guy hits a pole as I'm about to pull into my driveway :/.
He was ok....
Called a few of the fellas to help me out and grabbed a few shots of the work site.
I did manage to capture pretty much a full night of calls which I'll try and edit up and feature in a new episode of "Being a Lineman" !
We're also trying out some new Arc rated gear from Dragon wear FR, now available in Canada!!👊🔥

The driver took off to go get a drink to relieve his back pain and treat himself for shock. That's why he wasn't in the car and that's his story and he's sticking to it.
I really appreciate you taking the time to post these videos. I am not in a trade even remotely related to this, but I enjoy seeing professionals do their work. Thank you!
Darn poles attract cars like magnets. Thankful that nobody was hurt. Thank you for everything you guys do. Please stay safe, and God bless.
Here in southern Ct we haven't had any serious cold yet but did have near 4 inches of rain last night with 40-50 MPH wind gusts. Power co is out in droves today working on restoration of near 100k outages state wide. At least the temps pushed 60 degrees for the crews out there in the rain.
Just love when this happens at 3 am!! Stay safe out there brother
5:58 You forgot to call us out there for locates we haven't given you all clears to dig yet. 😂😂
We (NE Maine) also got this wind and rain. Lots of folks out. Kudos to all our linemen.👷
On my street some years back we had a half-similar incident, car off the road in soggy sunken woods. No power involvement, but it turned turtle, and two older (! My age!) people hanging from seatbelts. I flagged traffic and some guys had knife and strong arms to help them out. Since then I carry a belt-cutter fits in the cigar-lite hole.
Thanks for sharing these videos. Stay safe and warm. You're doing great! 👍 we really appreciate you and your hard work.
What a night! I'm glad nobody was hurt.
Mad respect to linemen that respond to these types of scenarios.
THANKS for keeping the lights on!!!!
the mud and water compounded with the power of the hit that pole go is why that small part of the pole came out so easy i am guessing along with i have seen that happen with fencing posts
Man that was a lot of work to do in the middle of the night. I have so much respect for linemen after seeing your videos man!!
As a kid, I saw a guy take out a pole out on a motorcycle. Broke it into three pieces (in the ground, middle section about 30m away, and the top section still attached to the lines just sitting on the ground). The guy WALKED away from it with only bruises!
Here in the south of australia power lines are suspended on a "stobie pole", which is two steel I beams bolted around a concrete slab. They cut subarus in half like a hot knife through butter. Although arguably a much bigger job for crews when something big enough hits it to damage it.
Really enjoy seeing these videos. I know in the moment it’s not that fun due to having to get up in the middle of the night but seems like you really enjoy what you do! Thanks brother and stay safe!
That car held up remarkably well. Cars that hit the poles in my area never look that good. They are usually ripped apart by the pole.
My guess is when the pole snapped and didn't give much resistance for the car to be wrapped around the pole, if that pole didn't snap that car would be much more embedded around that pole.
That's a Subaru driver for ya!
Aaron, you and your boys are very brave heroes. Your concern for those who live in your community is very evident.
The power company around here's motto is "We put it all on the line for you."
I'd love to get your reaction to the huge Madison, TN substation that took a direct hit from a tornado. Many videos show arcing and a fireball type explosion. I'm hoping you have some insight on what the combustible was (I'm assuming a huge transformer full of mineral oil) and also I'm very curious how such a critical thing as a major sub can be restored by crews so fast.
My partner works for a warehouse and apparently one of their truck drivers had a pole snap in half directly in front of their truck. The winds this week were just wild!
Thanks for sharing buddy stay safe god bless
Thanks Scrotie! 👊🤝🍻
Ouch that is not a great thing to have to work on but you can get it fixed and working again
GREAT VIDEO WE LOVE IT KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good job Aaron in the terrible weather..
She was some windy!
One heck of a good time huh?
Thanks for showing a little bit of how you guys replaced the pole. I'm not a lineman, but I did pause the video a few times and try to figure out what I would do if I were new on the job. I got about as far as de-energizing the line, then I didn't know if it would make more sense to detach the lines completely or let them hang as you did.
Did you have to reinforce the primary when you detached the other wires from the pole, to prevent it from snapping? Next, towards the end - you mentioned he would have to have his gloves on if the primary were energized - is there a scenario where you would do this operation with the line energized? In my mind I keep imagining the primary snapping at the point where it was connected to that insulator on top of the pole.
Again, I'm not a lineman nor am I one in training.
Hey Aaron, have you ever heard of a Stobie pole? I’m my city in Australia we never ever use timber power poles. Cars tend to loose all the fights they have with stobie poles, never seen one of those sheered off like the pole in your video.
That was a hard hit to break the tie in on the insulator. Wouldn’t take much for the conductor to go to ground in that pole top pin! Work safe and have a quiet rest period!
It does seem to me that, if the neutral (lower line) is taught enough, its insulator will act like a fulcrum and the car pushing the bottom of the pole will put the top of the pole a relative opposite amount.
I think that car will buff out. 😂Why is that the last call is the start of overtime? Great work Aaron and Co. stay warm!
🥶🥶🥶
👍👊‼️
So how thick and material to make it so even a semi can't damage a power pole?
I bet that ground wire is still connected to the ground rod. I’ve been amazed a few times , the rod will take the ride with the butt lolol
😀👍👍👍
The irony is tonight I saw a blue WRX come within 6 inches of hitting someone crossing the street, they didn't want to wait for pedestrians to cross with the light. That poor girl was very shook up and speechless. The vehicle drive away at a high rate of speed. May have been drunk as well. Got away before I could get a plate.
Well... WRX DOES sound like wrecks. (esp the way I've seen people drive them) ;-)
Just because they are all wheel drive that doesn't mean you can drive like a fast and furious movie I see idiots like that alot
Did he take off cuz he was under the influence? 🤔
I'm not sure for this particular case what the story was
Hey man, I'm an occupational and environmental medicine physician in training. I've been watching your videos; they're amazing. Is it okay with you if I share some examples from them with my class?
"Is it okay with you if I share ....with my class?" UA-cam is a public site, anybody can watch. And also if you watch several of the older clips, Aaron WANTS to show the public what linemen do, 'cuz many of us don't know.
Absolutely!
Don’t you hate it that there are some people that take for granted what you do including cleaning up their messes. The last day & your planning on going home & some yahoo crashes into your equipment. Personally? These jerk offs need to be sentenced by a judge to work on a line crew to assist after pole accidents in the middle of the night in the freezing cold. No more hiding behind their parents. Community service digging pole holes in the mud with hands frozen like what we do. Except we didn’t ask for that assignment. We don’t drive like yahoos & put other people out?
Who moved the car?
Police hired a tow truck... Once we had the lines out and grounded, he was able to drag the car out
Utility poles are not an approved Subisnack.
Was this one of the Niagara rd accidents??
No, this one was way out the Glen near the mountain
@@Bobsdecline I must have missed that call. Scanner was off for a few hours.
the obligatory comment ........ here
That's something you usually expect from a Mustang owner.
Lol
"That's something you usually expect from a Mustang owner." Hah! I'm an ex-Mustang owner (🐎1968 with the Six). No, a 'Stang at the limit goes off the road tail-first (buggy-axle rear end). The WRX handles better so it can go into the woods front claws first. 4WD means it can go twice as far in the mud/woods/sand before it gets stuck. (Getting hung on a pole-stub takes extra talent.)
@@PRR1954 I'm an ex-owner of both. 1970 Mustang convertible with the 351C and automatic. Spun out and hit a power pole thanks to someone leaving 5 quarts of oil in the road on a curve. Declared totaled due to frame damage. Also a 2001 2.5-RS, hit on the left rear tire in a parking lot by an idiot, shift the axle 4" to the right. Declared totaled due to floor pan tubes being kinked. Both great cars.
