MADNESS, Motorsport & the Media! The inside story of Jordan Grand Prix’s greatest PR moves

  • DC and Eddie are joined this week by the former head of press and PR at Jordan Grand Prix, Giselle Davies. She recalls how the F1 underdogs wowed the media with stunts like a circus-inspired car launch and by bringing in models like Katie Price (aka the other Jordan). Plus how she dealt with drivers like Gerhard Berger and Ralf Schumacher and tried her best to tame EJ.
    DC and EJ also tackle listener questions on Checo Perez’s loss of form and Eddie’s memories of Italian driver Andrea de Cesaris.

    Loved this episode. Always great to hear the old behind the scenes stories. It would be fantastic to hear Giselle back on the podcast again to hear more from her diary.

    Another great episode.
    I remember the early days of Jordan F1 and some of the talented drivers they had, must have been a real buzz working there through all of the ups and downs.

    I well remember the days of Clubjordan, still have the magazines and great memories of touring the factory at Silverstone, the testing days, and even a pit stop challenge in the middle of the English Channel. Thanks for the memories EJ.

    As a fan the two people I really remember were Louise and Giselle. We always felt like the most important fans at a race. The fan club was the best and the trips they organised were the best craic. Eddie and the driver of the day would always show up at some point and what I'm sure was great effort as I'm sure they had more important things to do. Louise on many occasions took race programs from me at the fence and arrived back a hour later with them full of signatures. Ah happy days.

    I knew you were the absolute highlight in F1 podcasters, I am a podcast DJ for years now, so have some comparison, but
    EJ's use of "cunningly" in the juicy start was where you absolutely hammered it! Saludos de Colombia, indeed DC, in your time JP Montoya was my top favorite, but you were def up there, I despised Schumi and his antics.
    Still you, David Coulthard, achieved to win at least 1 race in the most dominant Schumacher-Ferrari years.
    Nobody during the 80s-90s McLaren or 10s-20s Red Bull/Merc can say that!

    I greatly enjoy that one.
    I always liked Giselle back in the day and when re watching old season compilations. She didn't seem to act for the camera, but the fun and smiles and passion felt honest. And it's good to see her like 20 years later just like that, even in what could be described as a nasty hostage situation ; )
    The same goes for EJ and literally every other JordanGP personal you had as guests (and DC, of course), I just love it when the people I looked up to as a boy turned out to be as nice as they seemed.
    What are the chances of getting HHF on the gig? Or Mika?

    It's a little disappointing to find out the idea of bringing in the likes of Emma Noble, Melinda Messenger, Jodie Marsh, Nell McAndrew & of course, mucky old Katie Price as pit/team models was the idea of commentator Barry Davies' plum-in-the-mouth slightly posh/even more slightly boring daughter....🙄

    @David
    The sport of sim racing, so much more accessible from a travel and cost perspective, barely has girl competing, let alone at the pointy end. All the opportunity, just as many race fan parents as boys get, but girls as a whole DON'T CARE about active racing. A hugely percentage of the girls who are in real life racing have racing dads who give their girl more love and attention when she's at a track. Let's not pretend otherwise. In sim racing there are hundreds of thousands of boys who'd LOVE TO RACE in ral cars, even cheap tintops, nothing too small or modest. There are more boys who want to do ballet than girls who want to race. WHY INVEST if the talent pool just doesn't wanna? Yes we'd like another Mouton please, but even she came from a well-off racing dad. Without that dad, would she even have cared about racing, given it a glance? Seem you need racing dads more than karts and cars for wealthy girls to sit in. Why all that budget for RICH GIRLS when so many truly talented sim racer boys are totally ignored?
