I'm a convert for Project Soli. Last night I had to get up at 4am in the pitch dark, I reached out for my phone and it just lit up having detected my hand. It automatically unlocked and I could use it to see. It was some Jedi level shit...I was genuinely impressed. The same sort of thing for the silencing of the alarm / reminders, it's pretty damn cool. When it matures I can actually see it being something I can't live without on my phone.
I love the Pixel 4. It's a smooth experience, coming off the Pixel 2 I was expecting it to feel foreign. When I had an iPhone I always felt like they changed everything with every major update. I'll say my biggest gripe, having used the phone for a week, is that you can't input multiple face profiles. I work outside so I usually wear a hat and sunglasses. It can't recognize me, so I have to take my glasses off each time I open my phone.
How you handle the battery situation? Will you say it is something that a non-power average user can deal with for a regular day without sacrificing the new features?
@@TheFancyDino I'm not a power user but have normal use from about 6AM to 10pm.. usually around 15-20 percent when I put it on the very cool Google Wireless Charger. Works great for me. Huge upgrade from my P2XL
@@DJMMLJ it's all part of the Pixel "experience". It's really more of an adventure. Waking up to a new update every month and figuring out what bugs came thru and if they actually fixed last months bugs. Fun times if you don't really NEED to use your phone...
Google places the camera aspect of the phone as top priority. So it appeals to users who are particularly enthusiastic about photography. And then they omit a super-wide angle lens. That was a huge mistake for 2019. I’m sure it will cost them a lot of phone sales. Anyway, great, honest video. And I still like what Google are doing with the Pixel line.
Part of me doesn't like that I got the pixel 4 XL for Christmas But a bigger part of me wanna take some mind blowing picture I had the pixel for over a week now and it has all the stuff I need and most of my wants. I also like the improved Google assistant. The size of the screen is pretty decent. I love the forehead because notches and holes get in the way when I watch videos and whenever I play games.
I switched from apple to a pixel 4(Android) And this blew my mind. I love it so much more than apple. One thing that stood out for me is the phone itself. It looks astonishing love it.
@jayfran I have an IPhone 11 and I’m thinking of switching over to the Pixel 4. Do you ever have a hard time hearing people when you’re on a phone call? I used to have the pixel 3a, and I could not understand someone on a phone call. Hence why I got an iPhone 11. But I miss my google pixel.
@@Cr8zycat if I were u I would wait for pixel 5 cuz it's right around the corner and no I have no issues with the pixel 4 altho I have heard some ppl do have issues with speakers
Jay Fran ahh, thanks! Do you by chance know what’s supposed to be different on the pixel 5? I’m hoping it may be slightly cheaper. That’s good that the phone call quality is good! I know the 3a is supposed to be the cheaper version of the pixel 3 - maybe that’s why the phone calls weren’t always clear.
@@Cr8zycat I doubt it would be cheaper but since u have an 11 you could trade it in so it can pay for the most of the pixel 4 and then u just need to pay 100$ for the rest of the pixel 4. Like the pixel 4 is 900$ and the 11 I think is 800$ so of I trade in the 11 for the pixel 4 u just need to pay 100$. But no idk when the 5 is coming out or if it would be cheaper but my pixel is only a few months old so if I do want to upgrade I would prob wait a few years
Jay Fran I sadly don’t think it’ll workout that way. I’m with Verizon, and for me to get the Pixel now, I have to pay $223 since I’m not eligible for an upgr yet :/ but thanks for the advice!! It seems like a really cool, good phone - and I miss my old pixel 3a (minus not being able to understand someone on the phone)
This guy deserve more subs and like. He has MKBHD quality. I won’t skip ads if he has any. With his content , voice, how he deliver and editing skills, he definitely gonna be big in reviews community.
Can't agree more. As Nexus 6 user I felt the link between me and my phone. There's something that works, something invisible. And I love to see this relationship continues to live in the newer G phones
Tech reviewers will want all the video and camera options available but in reality normal real consumers will never even get into camera settings to change anything, this is perfect for real normal people. Point, shoot, enjoy is the formula Google knows people wants also Apple. If tech "reviewers" wouldn't complain so much about no 4k 60fps among other things OEM'S would not feel the pressure or need to put them on a PHONE. Most people don't even have a computer powerful enough to edit a raw 4k video so what you reviewers want or need don't necessarily means consumers need it or want it as well, big difference there. Excellent video quality here as always 👌
I would like to make a comment on your review proficiency. I have watched many, many reviews with all the "big names", but your delivery, tone, pitch and presentation in general is on a level with the best out there. I hope you acquire many more subscribers. Your work is fantastic. Good luck.
Anyone who gives this phone a chance and runs it more than 2 weeks is blown away. I love mine and have been getting 7:34 hrs screen on time up from 5:41 and growing thanks to adaptive battery.
I think this is where I am basically with the Pixel 4 as well. I pickup other Android devices like the phenomenal OnePlus7 Pro and there's just little things that make your realize how much Google really focused on the software experience. It's a very interesting device to ponder about.
I freaking love this review.... I think it speaks to Pixel users. We don't love Pixel phones because they are flashy or have the newest tech, but we love the experience we get from this phone. I always love to find other Pixel owners and they always love their devices. A lot of people fail to realize there is more to a device than just paper specs, the user experience says it all.
The finger print sensor is the biggest bummer for me. Almost all my apps use a fingerprint login and now all of them are back to punching in a password everytime
Man this phone is a treasure. I have been using since one month ! Android has been tailor made for the pixel series. I am loving it and it's purely my own opinion.
that joshua tree national park footage was amazing, thanks. a welcome change from all the reviews i've been watching showing a bunch of skyscrapers. this video might have sold me on the 4 xl.
yes, that's right....the stock android is the magic here...I use a Nokia 8.1 (a mid-ranger tho)....but still I just want to hold the phone in my hands and just scroll through random things... I got your feelings. User-friendliness is what makes a phone likeable. People often forget this factor while choosing their phone
Very nice review and, I believe, you took the right and proper approach which was to emphasize your experience using the phone over specs and what is lacking.
The astrophotography is the main reason I keep going back and forth between the OnePlus 7 pro and the pixel 4. Other than the size because I also don't love jumbo phones
i just bought pixel 4xl and i have only one complain about it that is the screen is not bright enough for me. otherwise i loved the experience of pixel 4xl.
Great review of this phone from a user experience standpoint. I've had my Pixel 4 XL for about a week now and am generally happy. It's not perfect, but I never shoot 60fps or even in 4k most of the time, I don't need a ton of extra storage, and also use the telephoto more than a wide angle lens. It's not for everyone but I don't think it deserves all the hate most of the tech press and enthusiasts are directing at it.
Brilliant Astro photography... I can't take advantage of mine living in a light polluting city but it's nice to know if I'm ever in the situation I can take those kinds of shots
PREACH BRUV. Finally a review that isn't blowing the battery or other OMG CRISIS PIXEL SUCKS AGAIN issues out of proportion. Every Pixel release the media shits on it on usually baseless shit. This year yes the battery is simply average and the storage options suck. BUT i love the pixel 3a been using it since it came out. And this phone is amazing. My friends with the new S10+ and iPhones were asking what phone I had after taking photos at renaissance fair. It may not be the fastest but the pure google experience and everything about this phone is great. So I can imagine how much of an improvement the 4 is. Pixel 3a is the favorite phone I've used this past decade. And it was half the price of everything else out there. Specs aren't everything. I love my budget pixel and I think I'd love the 4 experience because of the software experience and beefed up speed. Mediocre battery life doesn't make a phone terrible. It has nearly the same screen on time as Samsung s10+ for about 5.5 hours...Not sure how that got labeled as a phone killer but samsung's phone is just fine. Just media hate for pixel devices.
I just got the OnePlus 7t. First time ever not owning a Samsung device. Feels weird. But I don't even use the 90hrr. I keep it on 60 cuz you can't even tell the difference between the two.
Yes you can on certain apps..give you a example...I have the daily mail online app ..when it's at 60hz it's choppy when I scroll but when it's at 90hz it's buttery smooth..... and it doesn't affect the battery that much..
Great video and nice to see an objective review rather than typical bashing. My Pixel 3a had an accident over Xmas and was going to get a 4 until I saw a barrage of negative feedback. My main wants are camera, reliability and regular software/security updates. I was looking at Xiaomi and Huawei but on going support concerns me.
For those of you who own the 4; how many apps have been updated to use face unlock as of January 2020? Face ID is an absolutely necessary feature to me, as I have warped fingerprints. Also, those of you who’ve turned it off...were there any battery gains when turning off soli? I’d turn that and the 90hz off immediately, and I’m curious if that would improve battery life.

You see those pictures and you look down at that little phone in your hand and go....ohhh myyy gosh, you are special little guy.
I like my pixel 4 and I'm amazed with it
@@samueljames657 of course he does
@@samueljames657 Who doesn't?
How you handle the battery situation? Will you say it is something that a non-power average user can deal with for a regular day without sacrificing the new features?
@@TheFancyDino oh I meant the 4xl
@@TheFancyDino I'm not a power user but have normal use from about 6AM to 10pm.. usually around 15-20 percent when I put it on the very cool Google Wireless Charger. Works great for me. Huge upgrade from my P2XL
im really loving my pixel 4xl. you'll only knew how good it is until you really use the phone for about one week.
@@DJMMLJ what
@@DJMMLJ you're right but software gets better with time, it adapts
@@DJMMLJ it's all part of the Pixel "experience". It's really more of an adventure. Waking up to a new update every month and figuring out what bugs came thru and if they actually fixed last months bugs. Fun times if you don't really NEED to use your phone...
All I wanted was a bigger battery for both. 3400mAh on the 4 and 4,200 on the XL
Part of me doesn't like that I got the pixel 4 XL for Christmas
But a bigger part of me wanna take some mind blowing picture
I had the pixel for over a week now and it has all the stuff I need and most of my wants. I also like the improved Google assistant. The size of the screen is pretty decent. I love the forehead because notches and holes get in the way when I watch videos and whenever I play games.
I switched from apple to a pixel 4(Android)
And this blew my mind.
Hands down....BEST Video editing 😍😍😍
Loved your work here !!
Thanks so much!
Beautiful investigative work. My pixel is coming in the mail today and I'm even more excited now
If you force the 90 hertz on the developer settings it will be at 90 all the time. Battery life lasts 4-5H
Your videos are awesome, beautifully cinematic vibes, very well done👏🏻. Also best pixel 4 review on UA-cam by far !
How's the Pixel 4XL for someone who works a corporate job, and has lots of emails, calls and meetings to attend?
No way. Go with the oneplus 7t or 7tpro
Always love your videos! Simple, subtle and cinematic.
I would like to make a comment on your review proficiency. I have watched many, many reviews with all the "big names", but your delivery, tone, pitch and presentation in general is on a level with the best out there. I hope you acquire many more subscribers. Your work is fantastic. Good luck.
Thank you!
And just like that, new subscriber. This video is perfect
Price drop sale Pixel 4 $499 unlocked now and. Pixel 4 XL $599 unlocked on sale online now. Great. Deal.
The scene of Google Pixel next to Steve Job's biography is unique! Great and balanced review of the Pixel 4.
Anyone who gives this phone a chance and runs it more than 2 weeks is blown away. I love mine and have been getting 7:34 hrs screen on time up from 5:41 and growing thanks to adaptive battery.
what was the music playing during the astrophotography portion?
Your very honest and no BS reviewing just earned a sub and like. I look forward to your future reviews.
I think this is where I am basically with the Pixel 4 as well. I pickup other Android devices like the phenomenal OnePlus7 Pro and there's just little things that make your realize how much Google really focused on the software experience. It's a very interesting device to ponder about.
That wallpaper is on point👌 Where could I get it?
if I'm not mistaken that may be one of the stock wallpapers included with the device
Wow awesome review man, I subscribed love this video looking forward to more.
Another great video man, congrats!
You nailed the important aspect of the gp4. Well put analysis. Bdw did you use some adjustments to make the stars pop out?
Thanks! And no that's straight out of camera using the astrophotography mode
First time I see your reviews, pretty good. I love your style.
You deserve more views
Like they say, it's more than the sum of it's parts.....
The real-time transcription audio recorder is the ultimate hook for me.
The finger print sensor is the biggest bummer for me. Almost all my apps use a fingerprint login and now all of them are back to punching in a password everytime
Get a password manager like LastPass.. it’ll fill in the passwords for you. Works very well on my Pixel 4 XL.
Honest reviews like this is what we need (Not good battery, not good design, bad security “Face ID” ) not really a flagship.
That astrophotography is amazing! I hope they put it on the pixel 3 and 3 XL soon
Man this phone is a treasure. I have been using since one month !
Android has been tailor made for the pixel series. I am loving it and it's purely my own opinion.
Haari N M I can’t use no other android if it’s not the pixel line
that joshua tree national park footage was amazing, thanks. a welcome change from all the reviews i've been watching showing a bunch of skyscrapers. this video might have sold me on the 4 xl.
Astrophotography mode is the only thing that I'm not sure if go for the Pixel 4 XL or iPhone 11 Pro Max 😥
Dude this video is great. Music, timing, editing, the shots. 👍👍
Great vid bro what music is that when you show the epic video and pics just before the stars
Nice, dude. No ranting nor praising, just differently honest. You got a new subscriber
yes, that's right....the stock android is the magic here...I use a Nokia 8.1 (a mid-ranger tho)....but still I just want to hold the phone in my hands and just scroll through random things... I got your feelings. User-friendliness is what makes a phone likeable. People often forget this factor while choosing their phone
Love your video style mate... honest, like I’m talking to a mate.
I tried Astrophotography on my OnePlus 6 ... And wow. Their algorithms are really some dark magic, it's insane.
@fntm Telegram, search GCam OnePlus 6
6:10 THAT'S a great shot! really impressed and nice review
Thank you for not shitting on every little thing and just telling us how how you feel
i just bought pixel 4xl and i have only one complain about it that is the screen is not bright enough for me.
otherwise i loved the experience of pixel 4xl.
This was a great review... Coming from a 4xl user... This is spot on. In standard Google hardware style... Expect glowing reviews in 6 months.
We need more honest people like you here on youtube
Amazing effort Matt ! Excellent content and equally impressive layout of views. Pretty darn impressed ! 👍
Very interested in this phone. But how would it be taking photos of the moon
Good question
Thanks bro! I'll go to Joshua tree next week, can't wait to test my pixel 4 xl for astrophotography as well!! Lol
Great video 👍. Very well said. Was that video in the park shot on the Pixel 4 too?
Beautiful video footage. Made me subscribe! Thanks 👍🏻
I compare my Pixel 2 XL screen and Pixel 4 XL screen, side by side, and the 4XL blows it out the water. INSANE.
