Lol…telling the porcupines apart is like telling twins apart….the more time you are with them the easier it is to tell them apart. Kibo has more skin and less hair by his eyes, so it is lighter toned there. Kibo’s eyes protrude out more too. Mawenzi has a wider forehead as does Quilliam. It’s funny because Quilliam resembles Mawenzi and Nova resembles Kibo. Maybe I’ll do a future video about comparing their personalities 😉
Thanks for asking about the triplets. 2 of them actually went to their forever home this morning. I still have 1…I cuddled with him a lot today!
I have a few more videos that will show all the triplets, so you’ll still get to see them a little more!

Are you not afraid to be quilled by them anymore? I guess they used to you by now! I wonder what surprises they have for me if I ever get that close lol

I've noticed on one of the older videos Mawenzi has stopped eating when she heard your dog bark... they can't stand other animals...
You’re very observant. When porcupines are unsure of a noise, they freeze to evaluate it. You saw Mawenzi stop eating because she heard that noise. After freezing, they will either decide if it is safe to continue eating or run to the safety of their pen. They have really good hearing. Sometimes if I am downstairs with them and Phil comes home, I won’t hear that he is home, but I will know he is because of the temperament change of the porcupines…it’s very interesting.
In regards to being quilled, I have a healthy respect for the porcupines and have become very keen on reading them. Because of this I can pretty reliably understand their nonverbal communication and respond accordingly. If one seems a little aggravated, I adjust my movements, etc. This keeps us on the same page and me from getting quilled. When others meet the porcupines, I instruct them to listen to anything I tell them because I can read the porcupines body language.

Has any of your dogs ever been injured by your Porcupines? Have their quills ever injured any of your dogs?
Good question…no they haven’t. For the most part, the dogs and porcupines are separate from each other. It was only with this last litter of triplets that Rascal became obsessed with them. We just have one of the triplets left (2 found their new homes) and at 7 weeks old the porcupette and the dog continue to get along. At some point we will likely separate them for, primarily, the dog’s safety, but as long as they still both enjoy it, we will let them be friends.
OH my goodness. porcupine presents... rascal seems to LOVE the babies 😭😭😭 I love them too... so precious... I would like a porcupine for christmas...
