Master Wenceslas of Bohemia - February in the Torre Aquila [Eagle Tower] Cycle of Months - Trento

In the important Cycle of the Months at the Buonconsiglio Castle [Trento], the fresco of February takes place on a wall of the Hall accompanied by a window looking out. The painter transforms the apparent impediment into an opportunity, focusing his attention on a single figure, that of a farrier at work in his workshop. The character, the very symbol of the god of fire Vulcan, subtends the armour worn by the knights competing in a tournament in the upper part of the fresco, an expression par excellence of court life.
