For the May Day festival, the maidens pulled out their most beautiful and colourful dresses from their wardrobes. The fresco almost seems to evoke the atmosphere of Giovanni Boccaccio's Decameron, with the cheerful brigade of boys deciding to abandon the city and move to the countryside, surrounded by nature: pleasant places and untroubled peace.
