Mad respect for you Sorin! Just fixed some traces on a USB-C port. These traces are just as fine as hair. It requires a very steady hand and you make it look so easy. Nice work!
The one who designed the USB-C port is a proper calibrated bad boy
3:02 - 3:03 - Component is glued on black tape near D8622, removed with the black tape and never returned back. Watch when he folds black tape. Second USB C have this component... its the same components/schematics but Sorin didnt notice missing component.
3:05 it was there, then video is cut, at 3:06 its not there...
good catch there is actually something stuck on that tape
it might interfere with the data connection
You can also see, at 3:05 it was there, then video is cut, at 3:06 its not there...
Good spot. Looks like lowest trace component - bottom port trace @3:03
Well spotted. Looks to be a TVS diode on either a TX or RX line. Knowing Sorin's luck, the diode ended up back in the right place when the tape was rolled into place, aided by all that hot glue compressed underneath.
Sorin's Surgery! You make that look so easy but I really hate doing these USB C port jobs.
If you read this Sorin, please check the 2 comments where viewers spotted a small component come off the first port tracks @3:03 and a second where one of your repair wires comes unbonded from its start location @12:25. 😬
Magie ceea ce faci, felicitari domn' Sorin
Sorin,
I would never trust my electronics to manufacturers, to repair them, as they don't know how!
I would always trust you, though!
What an excellent video!!! I would be terrified to replace USB ports. Thank you for showing anything is possible and to keep on going!
I'm so impressed by your genius sir!
... Sorin nu e doar bătrân, e de fapt un chinez bătrân şi plictisit, ceea ce explică şi de ce are ochii mijiţi! :D
i always enjoy your repair videos.. even though i'm not the same field but i've learned alot from you since last year! THANK YOU SIR
Love this machine, it's a beast and a toaster!! Have had mine forever and still is as new. Now of course I use the Panasonic toughbook when I am in the field
This is where those magnetic USB-C connectors from AliExpress would really come in handy.
I guess using hot melt instead of epoxy means if the cable gets a really hard pull the hot melt will break and not the PCB itself 😲 Pete C.
You didn't check ports for data transfer and didn't reverse the charger to check if other side is working but at the end laptop is working and charging.I think it's enough for repair.good job,I respect
Great repair but Im not sure all pins are working.
I think more test required before hot glue.
With USB-C breakout board and diode test or Mechanic T824 tester.
Need to test USB both ways and also data.
I think one trace repair came loose with hot air 😭
What a great job, I love it !
They glue the ports down to the solder mask, ie, paint, and it just peels off. They should've left bare copper with vias so the glue is stuck to something more solid.
It looks like the supporting legs for the USB C sockets weren't properly soldered at the factory. Some devices have a collar built in to the case which prevents the USB C socket from being pulled sideways, it doesn't seem as if this laptop has that which means lateral force on the plug is transferred to the socket on the motherboard which isn't designed to withstand it.
Great skills, congrats Sorin!!!
Basically every port is user-replaceable with the exception of the important ones... Good attempt Lenovo!
the 2 port 1 of the wire is broken the bottom one when you use hot air 🥲🥲 ( 12:25)
Perfect, looks easy but actually it's hard to do.
Nice job
second usb-c port data line looks bridged; where have you soldered the wire ?
You need to check data communication differential lanes what you fixed. Working PD don't mean you fix interface)
The price-value ratio of the 10£ soldering station is pretty good. -It doesn't have an airflow control, to prevent burning out the heater, but- it's fine =)
I like it :D
it does have flow control. Soring just didn't notice it when he demoed it the first time.
@@oddarnebeck do you know the name o have a link for that soldering station? thanks
@@hiei27 ua-cam.com/video/RLDeARSD_68/v-deo.html
@@oddarnebeck OMG, you're right :D LOL, i just pressed the "set" button xD
THANK YOU
@@ATAG-yn5pd do you have a link for the soldering station?
2 videos in day!! thanks, Sorin
Perfect.
I dont understand how much force do one need to use to just plug usb cable or sometimes hdmi cables to rip ports straight from the board. How is that even possible
@@HummyGG one instance would be the laptop falling with charger and USB cable connected.
Very Nice! 😎😎😎
Like an eternety since he used hot glu last time. I was worried.
When I try this, I'm bridging everything! I use rosin and T12 iron.. Hmmmm....
practice, practice, practice =) Keep goin!
You using joy(lead) free solder?
@@perkulant4629 No, i don't use lead-free solder, only regular 160-180C one. Not sure about the exact value, i buy it in 50-100cm pieces in a shop :D
I donno what kind of solder I am using. It's from Aliexpress. Maybe anyone can recommend something for me? Yes, I am a noob 😁
12;28 Did you fix jumper wire on the bottom port because it may be touching the other trace?
Did you check if both USB-C ports are working normally with connector plugged in both ways with some device and charging because as you said Sorin, you do not want it back 😁.
Good job mate 👏
modular usb plug, modular 3.5 mm jack plug, but not modular usb c as well 😅
bad design, they need to make sure you buy another laptop in a few years.
@@orange11squares like every company did this
Hidden agenda😂😂
yes, now solid better than factory, Lenovo always a solder problems
Very nice intricate work, well done!, was curious as to the airflow setting with hot air, 40% ?
Good morning ❤friend
Id like to know how the heck both got broken
How do you clean the hot glue if the ports need to be repaired again?
With heater
the audio jack and USB-A are user replaceable but not the USB-c ports.😩😩
I'm wondering WTF the customer was doing to rip those ports off the board!!???
❤🎉
Better than factory😅
It seems that Lenovo has the worst motherboads out of all the brands. Lucky for the owner that your skills could bring it back to life.
the problem with usb C power connector, regular power connector always a better choice
What about data
Next person who is fixing anything else will just rip off the ports with the half of the board, because it is glued to the case? 😮
not really glued to the case, hot glue isn't sticky
Bank holiday pizza?
Thank you for your good advice! It's been a long time since I saw your hot glue boyfriend too!!😆
Wait what??
Since when he's using a cheap hot air station?
You forget to flip the charger and charge it lol
Si consigo el repuesto yo cambiaría los puertos
looks like northridje fix job, he loves doing connectors.
i will give to big boss to re assemble 😅
Hello 🤝👍👍👍👏👏👏👋👋👋👋
Lenovo is bad quality , garbage
Oh god. Lenovo are one of the worst. A lot of epoxy parts.
Nice job
👍👌👌
