    Mad respect for you Sorin! Just fixed some traces on a USB-C port. These traces are just as fine as hair. It requires a very steady hand and you make it look so easy. Nice work!

    3:02 - 3:03 - Component is glued on black tape near D8622, removed with the black tape and never returned back. Watch when he folds black tape. Second USB C have this component... its the same components/schematics but Sorin didnt notice missing component.
    3:05 it was there, then video is cut, at 3:06 its not there...

      Good spot. Looks like lowest trace component - bottom port trace @3:03

    • @ralphj4012
      @ralphj4012 17 днів тому +1

      Well spotted. Looks to be a TVS diode on either a TX or RX line. Knowing Sorin's luck, the diode ended up back in the right place when the tape was rolled into place, aided by all that hot glue compressed underneath.

    If you read this Sorin, please check the 2 comments where viewers spotted a small component come off the first port tracks @3:03 and a second where one of your repair wires comes unbonded from its start location @12:25. 😬

    This is where those magnetic USB-C connectors from AliExpress would really come in handy.
    I guess using hot melt instead of epoxy means if the cable gets a really hard pull the hot melt will break and not the PCB itself 😲 Pete C.

    You didn't check ports for data transfer and didn't reverse the charger to check if other side is working but at the end laptop is working and charging.I think it's enough for repair.good job,I respect

  • @JFIXX1
    @JFIXX1 17 днів тому +2

    Great repair but Im not sure all pins are working.
    I think more test required before hot glue.
    With USB-C breakout board and diode test or Mechanic T824 tester.
    Need to test USB both ways and also data.
    I think one trace repair came loose with hot air 😭

    They glue the ports down to the solder mask, ie, paint, and it just peels off. They should've left bare copper with vias so the glue is stuck to something more solid.

  • @tim0steele
    @tim0steele 18 днів тому +1

    It looks like the supporting legs for the USB C sockets weren't properly soldered at the factory. Some devices have a collar built in to the case which prevents the USB C socket from being pulled sideways, it doesn't seem as if this laptop has that which means lateral force on the plug is transferred to the socket on the motherboard which isn't designed to withstand it.

    The price-value ratio of the 10£ soldering station is pretty good. -It doesn't have an airflow control, to prevent burning out the heater, but- it's fine =)

    Did you check if both USB-C ports are working normally with connector plugged in both ways with some device and charging because as you said Sorin, you do not want it back 😁.
