Excellent lesson. I'm a believer in practicing slowly andI have been doing this naturally, but this video showed me how important it is to be conscious of doing it. What you focus on as you practice is so important.
Speed Mechanics was the first "lead" guitar focused book I ever got. I NEVER understood why it wasn't released with a DVD and always wondered what the hell this "transition time" thing was. Great lesson, Jon.
Your lessons are just killing it these last few weeks. I'm still working on the Yngwie lick with displaced accents but I'm going to try them all. Also thanks for the ear master recommendation and other ear training vids. My ear sucks and I'm hoping I can fix it.
Thanks! Just be patient and make sure to use your voice and a drone. Like I said in the ear training video, ANYONE can learn this. It's all about putting names on sounds and we all have that ability naturally:)
I never thought about this while practicing fast licks and after trying I can really see what you mean. Working on those transitions being smooth at a slow pace is something I never did. Hoping to come back to this comment with some results in a few weeks time.
@@JonBjork Hey. I've been practicing licks I've struggled for years with this approach and I'm actually seeing progress. It's unbelievable and I just wanted to come back and thank you.
Thanks Jon, great stuff as always! This seems like it will go great in combination with the routine from 2 days ago, "Best Alternate Picking Exercises For Beginners - Full Routine To Learn How To Shred🎸🔥". I'm going to make it part of my daily practice. Also seems like incorporating pick slanting, which I plan to do, will make for the ultimate practice!
Thanks for the lessons! I signed up for tab access, as linked above, but no other specific information about this particular lessons tabs were made available. Where can I get the tabs after I signed up? Thanks again.
For me it's important that the pick, apart from string changes, keeps in contact with the string. Don't know if that's important in this technique. I'm asking? Thanks jon, this is so helpful !
I'm slow. I don't have a clue what you're doing different. It just seems like youre playing staccato first and then holding the notes for the whole beat with the new method.
In the video, I go in-depth about the ‘transition time’ technique, which is all about making your movements between notes as efficient as possible. The idea is to play each note slowly and hold it for its full duration. This way, you’re forced to transition to the next note as quickly as possible, mimicking the quick movements needed at higher tempos. Practicing this way prepares your fingers for faster, more complex playing, while also helping you identify any inefficiencies in your technique.
Hi Jon . I hope you're doing well . Is this Technique using regular Alternate Picking ? For me it's kind of hard to tell . I've never been able to master Alternate Picking . But for about 30 years I've convinced a lot of people that I'm a good Guitarist by only using Economy Picking and Legato Techniques . I've never had a lot of luck with Alternate Picking . Several times in the past I've put in the time to try to get good at it with no luck . But then again , when I started playing , UA-cam didn't exist . And the only Guitar Teacher in town was teaching Church Hymns and Roy Clark songs . Yup , I'm old ! LoL . So I tried to learn Guitar from my KISS Records . Anyway , I'm totally focused on what you're teaching , Jon . And Thank You again for sharing your Knowledge and Skills . Oh , and I'm sorry this Message is so dam long . LoL !! Hope you have a great evening . Stay safe . 🎸
Hey! This technique works for anything, from legato to alternate picking to sweeping. It’s just about moving quickly from note to note. Also, there’s nothing wrong with not alternate picking, it’s all about what sound you want.
@@JonBjork Thanks Jon . This is going to help me in a big way regardless of how I use it is what you're telling me . That's great !! I started working on it a couple of hours ago . And I'm definitely taking my time to get it right . Thanks again . Have a good day , Jon . And thanks for responding so quickly . Most people on UA-cam don't respond at all . I'm sure you know that . Ok . Later . 🤕

It still holds up to this day, was very lucky to find that one early on:)
Wow, thanks! 🤘
The finger preparation tip here is so good. Thanks. Can’t wait to work on this.
Great lesson, Thanks Jon. Awesome as always. 👍👍👍🎼🎸❤️
Thanks Sean! Really appreciate it!
I like this "finger choreography" method. This probably deserves its own video.
Thanks! I'll revisit a lot of these concepts later as well:)
A real gem of advice. I've been trying it, had to slow down my tempo quite a lot initially but man does it pay off. Thank you for sharing this! ❤
Great to hear!

That’s the planting technique and something I do separately from this one. Both are good😊

Great lick at the beginning. It started with a "w" and ended with a "h" ....... Her e are all the notes: whoooooossssshhhhh 😂😂
