Great Review! Trying to decide between this and the 25mm. Really love your images here. I’m very much a fast lens person but I also love lots of 3D Pop in my images. I was worried about f4 being to slow to really make subjects pop out of the background but your images have proven otherwise.

If you have a 28 go with this 21 but if you don't have anything wider, I'd recommend the 21. At least that's my view, I'm sure you have a preferred angle that may be different from mine. Cheers!

ErickPhoto Thanks! Yes, I have the Voigtlander 28mm f2 which I love but I wanted something wider. I’m used to shooting 24mm on my 5D so I thought 25mm. I went ahead and ordered the 21mm though. Thanks again.

GeneralTarik I’d only go 25 if I didn’t have the 28 or 21, since 28 and 25 are more similar. The size of these lenses makes them easy to pack in your bag. Thanks for the feedback!

Hi, I read some comments that they fixed the purple hue problem on the corners with the newer M mount version. Did you already use this version or are you using the m39/ltm with an m-mount adapter? I‘m just curious since I‘m looking for a small 21mm lens for my leica m10.
    bests

mrharpman this is an M version that doesn’t require an adapter. I have not had the chance to try the newer version, I will at some point in the future. Thanks for watching!

Looooove your orange/red leather Leica! Is it a la carte from the factory, or third party?

raksh9 thanks! You can always ask your closest Leica headquarters to reskin yours for around $350

kindly suggest some 35 & 50mm lenses (Zeiss or Voigtlander or Leica) for M10. Thanks
out of the two, 35 & 50mm, which should be the first lens for M10 especially going by its Framelines ? i mean, which lens is best suited for with M10. Though i shoot street but want a lens for all-purposes, i could get both, 35 & 50 as well. The Zeiss 50/1.5 C Sonnar is cheaper than 50/2 Summicron, and Zeiss 35/1.4 Distagon is cheaper than 35/2 Summicron. Similarly Voigtlander f/1.2 & 1.5 & 1.7 are cheaper than Summicrons, so no question of Summilux or Noctilux here. Which 3rd party lens has a balance of all 3 qualities - Sharpness, Bokeh, and 3D Rendering ? One Leica lens i have in mind is 35mm f/2 Summicron, and compared to it the 35mm f/2 Zeiss Biogon is way cheaper, only 1/3rd new, and 1/5th if i buy used.

35 and 50 are very similar focal lengths, most people prefer 35 while I prefer the 28 cron aspherical. The 50 f/1.5 will looks smother wide open than the cron, different lenses for different uses. The 35 distagon is too big for a 35 for my taste. The voigtländer 35 f1/2 is again, to big for my taste. For daylight street photography shooting at f/8 I would prefer the 28 elmarit or the Zeiss 35mm Biogon f/2.8 Hope that helps.

Hi, Eric. Do you know what frame lines this lens brings up on an M6? I've heard mixed reports of the 28 and 35.

    • @erickpro
      @erickpro  6 років тому

G Clemence not sure why it would bring the 35mm lines. It should bring the 28mm lines. Maybe you were reading other people talking about the other color Skopar 35mm. A completely different lens.

to add to my answer with more detail, it is possible to buy a Leica M6 with different finder magnification. For example the standard magnification on the M6 is 0.72× which brings the lines( 28-90, 35-135, 50-75) and it is also possible to buy it with a 0.85× which brings the lines (35-135, 50-75, 90) so is possible that they were also talking about an M6 with a 0.85x finder. Cheers!

Thanks for the reply, Erick -- I've got a .72 m6-- was thinking of getting this lens but I might just go for a 28mm

G Clemence I also have the Voigtländer 28 and made a comparison to the Summicron 28 Asph. It’s in my blog erickoke.wordpress. Cheers!

Hi Eric, would it be possible for me to try your lens preset for this lens please? I’ve had great difficulty removing the purple fringe when focused at infinity.

@@erickpro Thanks Erick. I tried it (Lightroom Classic), no dice, fringe is still there after applying your preset. I'm gonna try the corner fix thing again in LR, see if that helps
