    I recommend starting the game in English, then you can switch the language to Japanese when you are comfortable with the game itself. (Language can be switched any time)

      I think thats a really good idea. Luckily I was already pretty familiar with the game mechanics but for people new to the series having the option to switch whenever is great! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!

      @@OdinAesthetic Yes, it's the language of the whole switch, so in the settings somewhere.

    Frankly, this game is very good for beginners learning to read Japanese - actively.
    You can play this game without knowing how to read at all, but that is not a good way to study.
    I am looking for more AAA games that are as helpful for learning as this one. Considered the new Pokemon on Switch, but we'll see...

      I agree Ivan, it's great to put some context with new words.
      I have decided to keep this series going so hopefully I can find some good recommendations for you in the future. But for now Pokemon is a good option, if not I've been playing Dragon Quest XI recently which seems efficient.

    Thank you so much for this video. I love Animal Crossing and I am thinking of new ways I can use to start learning Japanese. As a language teacher I knew that Animal Crossing would be a good source, but thanks to your video - which is visually neat - I get a peak at what the experience would be and how to set the language at the beginning of the game and how the kana look when you write, etc. So helpful! Thanks!

    Hello Joe,
    glad I found your video! I'm currently majoring in communication design, so congrats on that, the wordmarking is very catchy. I'm studying content based, not jlpt. Animal crossing would be a great opportunity to study Japanese and English words more efficient. Linking written words to images is perfect and learning オノマトペ easily so much fun. I'm looking forward to find more videos like that, because I'm not allowed to change the language.
    Good luck

    I’ve used Animal crossing to greatly improve my Spanish and now I’m making a new island to help my French. It’s really useful to learn casual phrases and things you wouldn’t have learned in a textbook or such. If animal crossing was available when I was learning Japanese it would’ve make it so much easier.

    • @ZentoJPN
      @ZentoJPN  2 місяці тому +1

      Wow that's awesome. How different are the vibes between languages or is it just a direct translation most of the time? Im sure some form of Animal Crossing would have been around, but it was definitely a lot less accessible than getting a Japanese version nowadays! Thanks for watching :)

    • @yahuive1782
      @yahuive1782 2 місяці тому +1

      @@ZentoJPN I’d say most of it is the same but they definitely change the humour or certain phrases to make sure it has the same affect between languages. A lot of villagers have different names in other languages for example that make more sense than directly translating it. 99% of the time tho it’s just slight alterations like in Spanish it’s “Mini Nook” instead of “La grieta de Nook” and in French it’s Nook’s shop. Love your content tho 😊

    This game will definitely be on my list to try play in Japanese, I’ve played earlier games in the series, will be interesting to see how it goes.
    I’m currently (slowly) working my way through Mario Odyssey (while watching Japanese Quest to help), so it’ll be a while before I get to another game.

    i often switch between languages on my iphone since i'm studying multiple, including spanish and japanese, and i just had the idea to change my switch to a different language. as i launched acnh it has asked me "character names and UI elements vary from language to language. do you still want to start playing?" i don't want to press okay yet in case it completely starts the game story from the beginning... i've seen people have said it continues as normal but i'm so paranoid ! can anyone confirm??

    • @ZentoJPN
      @ZentoJPN  2 роки тому +2

      Hello thanks for watching!
      I have done this myself and I can confirm - yes that warning is fine. It's just as it says the character names are obviously different in different languages. But your save and progress will be safe! Have fun exploring different languages! =]

  • @niks5643
    @niks5643 3 роки тому +3

    I ended up here because ACNH was suggested by Matt at Game Gengo as a good first Japanese game since it has furigana. He also suggested Zelda games for the same reason. How would you say Breath of the Wild is for learning?

    • @elusnuga
      @elusnuga 3 роки тому +3

      I don’t think zelda games are particularly good for learning because they use weird & archaic language. Animal crossing is so much better in that respect because it uses colloquial japanese and i think it can be very helpful to learn new vocab that is actually useful in real life

    • @ZentoJPN
      @ZentoJPN  3 роки тому +1

      Hey, thanks for checking out the video.
      I think Zelda has some good learning opportunities - there is a lot of non-essential text. But sometimes the language is very cryptic - for example I played Links Awakening in Japanese and all of the in game hints are difficult to understand in English, so in Japanese it made progressing in the game much more difficult.
      But as always motivation is a key factor, if you enjoy the game and can study from it then by all means do - BotW even has some voice acting too! (and it's a great game)

I’m actually shocked how many views and subscribers I have gotten from only 3 videos. I think if it keeps going up like this, if I hit 1000 subscribers I’ll try and make a real effort.
      For now I’m relying on people like yourself spreading the good word and UA-cam’s mysterious algorithm!
