Oh my god you are so clear! Your 17 min video is more useful than the last month of lectures for data analytics at the university... Keep up the good work! :)
I wish i had a teacher for statistics like this guy. (i had a stupid one hated stats) but had to work with them and learned them myself.. you rock! excellent presentation
This channel has been so helpful to me, at the age of 36 and jumping into the local University, i feel like i need as much help as possible and your the most helpful person online. thank you so much.
Agreed, at 50 I jumped back into the University environment, and I wish all instructors had this guys skills at breaking down a problem and explaining it thoroughly. I often feel as if I am teaching myself, and have done so for the last 2 years. However, in the process I have learned even more.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! 5 statistics books, about ten videos, and a college course, and none explains what a variance actually is in such simple description
I wish most professors are THIS elaborate! I needed classes where they explain why we use the formula, what it gets for us, and basically the significance of it all. Few of the professors I had in Stats were going straight for the formula, and they didn't really explain the whats, whys and hows. I wish he was my Stat teacher, maybe I have fallen in love with Stats from then on!
so much easier than what my professor taught us. i was completely clueless of how to figure out the difference between variance and the mean. thank you
Sometimes I just get frustrated on our education system for just running behind marks and not making the students understand any of the stuff .Hope one day my country will also have great teachers like you who makes the student know clearly what they are learning. Thanks a lot sir, huge love and respect from India.
Almost all other stats videos never really explained the concepts but this guy teaches us in a way that it really gets sinked in deep in our minds. dam well done Sir.
I thought I was innately bad at Math until I came across educators like yourself who really care about learning as opposed to getting through a curriculum. Thank you for this.
I can't express how much I love the way you teach. it's so interesting and easy to understand. thank you so much for your initiative. I am a student of mass communication, and for my PhD program I need to learn statistics, and it seemed so pathetic to me. your lessons made me feel like statistics is as interesting as journalism itself. thanks you is a small world. but I mean it.
Dear Jason, thank you so much for this fantastic series on Statistics. I will purchase every single volume you put out on statistics. Everyone out there should recognize that Statistics and Data is the new oil of the 21st Century!
Amazing clarity. I learned this math in the early 1980s, studying for my Land Surveyor's license. I was sitting here trying to remember the math, and it occurred to me to look on UA-cam. Now I remember the unknown variables left for me in the field, by incompetent forbears, data points that were suspect just by virtue of who established them. I ended up co writing the license exam for a couple of years. I still have Hewlett-Packard RPN nightmares. So many people know how, but they don't know why. Thanks for being a great teacher. Maybe now I can penetrate my "great cloud of unknowing".
You bring it out clearly that teaching is a talent , you have got to be my best teacher for statistics from today and onwards, thank you so very much 14:08
I really find this video very helpful because professor try to explain the concept from perspective of a know-nothing student instead of giving hard terms. Respect a lot!
To "simply" do your work as it should be done, is already helping other people. And you do that beautifully, humbly and very effectively! God bless you for that! You are a truly master and professor! Thank you so very much!
Absolutely incredible. You are a true legend, sir. Honestly, one of the best teachers out there and extremely patient in arriving at the answer with a logical and intuitive approach. Thanks so much
I'm a psychology student and you are my hero! cause our teacher doesn't explain to us what the words like variance and SD we use are he says the spss will do all calculations. Well, I want to understand the logic behind at least.
This guy is very good teacher, he explains things in such detail it just sinks in..... Kudos, by-the-way i am a Financial Analyst and Investment Management student at the University of Toronto. Mr Math and Science guy thank you for your online material you doing a great job educating people of the planet .....
Million thanks from who study German language but take statistics lecture too. I speak Korean and your explanation is so clear that even I can understand very well. Thanks again for the lessons.
I've had different statistics courses throughout my degree that I've kind of just been winging. For the first time, I actually understand this concept! You're an amazing teacher.
amazing description in everything, actually I am shocked by how this teacher consider himself as a simple student to not make explanations even a little bit complicated..thank you so much, teacher.
Sir, this was a very clear and pure way to understand variance. I am very grateful to realize this. I am studying econometrics and i could never really fundamentally wrap my head around what the variance truly meant. It's easy to calculate, but for me to intuitively understand what the variance is at its core and the importance of this for statistics... is because of you. thank you
This teacher is a genius. He explained it so clearly that even in sleep I can explain what variance is. He directly persist his teachings in first brain.
This is an excellent video!!! None of the texts I have read have explained variance so well. One book did, in simple terms, explain that the reason that the "n - 1" is used as a denominator in the sample equation is that "the sample mean always underestimates the true variance in the population." There is actually a mathematically and statistically advanced reason for subtracting a simple one from the denominator, But "in the simplest terms remember that doing so helps raise the value of the outcome of the equation closer to the true variance of the population." (e.g. 20/5 = 4 however, 2/(5-1) =5)
Very well explained...just have 2 questions 1) If problem was only with the negative elements then we could have taken the absolute value. Why did we do square only? 2) I would like to know the reason behind "n-1"?
Oh my god. This video has helped so much. I dislike my current Stats prof... he explains nothing as well as this guy. Thank you!! I wasted hours in stats class only to learn it here in a fraction of the time!!
I thumbed up for this video because unlike in school, this guy has actually taught the reasoning behind variance. In school, we were literally just told to memorize the formula. Kudos
God bless you sir, you are an magnificent teacher. You do not really make us learn rather you make us understand the concepts from the ground level. Please accept my utmost regards.
Awesome job of explaining what the variance is!!! I'm taking a correspondence course & therefore can't talk face to face with the teacher. You answered all of my questions!! Thanks!! :-)
instead of just memorizing the formula it's so much better to understand the meaning and make of the formula. this video is very helpful! thank you very much!
i heard you say u wanted to show the logical reasoning for the variance formula and my heart melted...... i do decision science now and i asked my tutor what is the logic behind some formula. guy started to explain, me knowing that this isnt what i asked stopped him, he then restarted to say the same thing after he finished his useless explanation he realized what i was asking then looked at me and said it was just the rule. so sir i thank you for being "as the kids say" a real one
Note that in the original function we multiply by p. The p is gone here. Since we sum up the "resulting" random variables and devide them by N, which is actually probability and it gives us p. So for two Xs X0=0 and X1=1 in bernuli or binomial disterbution we'd get p=0.5 since we have same amount of times each variable appearing in the same amount of results. Many thanks to you for the explanations!
Please accept my gratitude 🙏 I've been browsing the internet for 20mins. just to understand what variance is. Now i finally get it because of you 🤧 Thank you so much Teacher 😇
Wow, u just explained wht all these parameters mean and wat we r dng with them step by step. Other videos just tell u theoretically, but you are brilliant just brilliant. Thank you.
Lifesaver for my statistics topic, more than happy to purchase your full version at your website. The lecturer at my Uni just assumes us know what these concepts mean, and rush right into SPSS, but really, we need to understand why. BIG THANK YOU!!!
it took me numerous books and videos to actually realise what sigma and sub i is, FINALLY somebody just assumes we might not know it and clearly states exactly every symbol used in the equation. THANK YOU. I have never had statistics in school, but if I had, I'd like you to teach me.
WOW! As a fine-art graduate trying to learn statistics, thank you so much for explaining STEP-BY-STEP. I was very struggling until you said it's the "average" of the distance from the mean. I can sleep nicely tonight :D
Outstanding! O LOVE the way you explained the logic and rationale, and not just push for memorization of formulas. I am in my FIFTIES re-learning statistics for my Masters and forgot most of the fundamentals though I use statistics very day. I hated math in high school because I preferred to understand and the teaching style was flash cards for math! Zoinks. Any way, i appreciate you. 1000 thanks!

SO BLOOMIN TRUE!
There should be an award for making a 17 minute math video feel like it was over before it started. This guy understands how to teach.
Thanks so much!
Looked at several tutorials; this by far is the most direct approach. Thank you.

Nova Cane ditto
i had the most stupid teacher you can even imagine in statistics.
The same to me. I wish he could be my teacher. It's my first time to understand variance in my entire life
Same here...
Yo bro.....same situation was there
I love this tutor, this is the way to teach students, he makes it very basic and teaches it in an applied way. I wished I had known him earlier
You are VERY GOOD TEACHER.

Hello
Are you good at stats?
I've been trying to understand what variance was actually for all year and you've explained it in 17 minutes. Thank you

Great thank you!
My statistic course is completely online. Finding you tube is my lifeline. Its a complete statistics course in 5 weeks. This video is super helpful

I am paying loads of money to university each year, and yet I got my stats enlightenment on your video. Thanks
I do not know what I would do without this guy.
I'm familiar with this concept, but this by far the clearest and best explanation I've encountered. Respect!
You bring it out clearly that teaching is a talent , you have got to be my best teacher for statistics from today and onwards, thank you so very much 14:08
This is the best explanation I have seen. Finally a teacher who understands that students need to feel the concept in their guts!
I really find this video very helpful because professor try to explain the concept from perspective of a know-nothing student instead of giving hard terms. Respect a lot!

I watched so many statistics videos on UA-cam, I have to say, he is the best!!!
The simplicity of your explanation makes this topic very understandable in one go!
Finally! I now thoroughly understand variance, thank you! I wish all my professors would speak this clearly when teaching about complicated subjects.
Absolutely incredible. You are a true legend, sir. Honestly, one of the best teachers out there and extremely patient in arriving at the answer with a logical and intuitive approach. Thanks so much
This 17 minute lecture taught me more than several weeks of statistics at my university
Awesome!
I have learnt Statics in College and Other courses but now I have have actually got a clear understanding for it. the best explanation.
by far the best ever, online AND in reality. I am purchasing the rest of the courses right away. its priceless.
I'm a psychology student and you are my hero! cause our teacher doesn't explain to us what the words like variance and SD we use are he says the spss will do all calculations. Well, I want to understand the logic behind at least.

Supreme quality of teaching. I wish all professor explain things as crystal clear as he does. Two thumbs up Sir!
So happy you liked it!

Million thanks from who study German language but take statistics lecture too.
I speak Korean and your explanation is so clear that even I can understand very well. Thanks again for the lessons.
You have to watch 2 or 3 times, to appreciate.
Very detailed, thumbs up.
EXCELLENT LESSON, FINALLY UNDERSTAND VARIANCE. WE NEED TEACHERS LIKE THIS IN K-12!
This is BY FAR the best explanation I've heard yet. Thank you.
I've had different statistics courses throughout my degree that I've kind of just been winging. For the first time, I actually understand this concept! You're an amazing teacher.
you are the only person who make me understand this topic. you born to be a lecturer. thank you.
amazing description in everything, actually I am shocked by how this teacher consider himself as a simple student to not make explanations even a little bit complicated..thank you so much, teacher.
This man made me love statistic this trim in school. I couldn't have gotten a better explanation than this. thank you sir
Greatest teacher i'd seen ever

Sir i can't tell you how much you have thought me , thank you
You make it look so easy. My stat teacher spent an hour explaining this concept yet I couldn't understand. Thank you so much.

Now i undestand
Teaching is the tallent hence any body can be a teacher but not a good teacher
I apreciate this is the good teacher
I thumbed up for this video because unlike in school, this guy has actually taught the reasoning behind variance.
In school, we were literally just told to memorize the formula.
Kudos
You bring it out clearly that teaching is a talent , you have got to be my best teacher for statistics from today and onwards, thank you so very much
So many places tell you HOW to calculate variance, but this was the first I found that explained WHY you need to do it and what it's used for.
We need more teachers with the same skills that you have!
Thanks!! :-)
Passed my statistics exam because of you, thank you very much.
wondeful lecture, wish i had a lecturer like him before.
Thanks God I found this channel. His way of teaching is superb.
You bring it out that teaching is a talent
This is explained so well, especially for a beginner, thank you!
instead of just memorizing the formula it's so much better to understand the meaning and make of the formula. this video is very helpful! thank you very much!
I wish I would have found this channel before, such clear explanation that the concept would get ingrained in your brain, hats off sir!
The best teacher ever!
I'm reading and seeing many pages on google and youtube. I just wanna say that's the best explain for variance. Thank you

finally, someone who can really describe and teach statistics.
Really, you made me understand statistics, you are more than a teacher, thanks a lot
You are most welcome!
Wow, you explained this very well. I read the book, however, I wasn't able to understand it. I now understand it after watching this video, thank you.

8 years from this video, I am thrilled I can finally finish my stats homework due tonight because of this video.
Wow, u just explained wht all these parameters mean and wat we r dng with them step by step. Other videos just tell u theoretically, but you are brilliant just brilliant. Thank you.
You are very welcome!
Thank you sir! i understood it from you more than school! good luck
Best statistics teacher ever
Thank you for breaking this equation down and making it so easy to understand.
First read it in concept of probability than see this videos gives you a simple fabulous understanding.
I spent learning stats for 2 years and you explained the concept in just 18 minutes. You should create a Udemy Course.
You are an incredible instructor. What a talent
I found this "treasure" 7 yrs later! =) Thank you so much!
bless you kind man!!! it has helped me tremendously. y cant my stats teacher teach like this!
nice
Thank you for this very simple and easy to follow explanation

This was very informative; I am in a statistics class this semester, and I actually understood what he was explaining.
Love this guy, hope he helps me pass statistics.
You are the Statistics Teacher I want to have right now.
I feel like starting my mathematic lessons again from the beginning. Very interesting.
One word, Phenomenal !
wow this is amazing, very few people are great at teaching, and you my sir, are one of them
Wow thanks!
