A few years ago I arrived in Changsha very late at night, and got lost trying to find my hotel. (Changsha has been split apart by multi-lane roads with no crossing points - it's hard for a pedestrian to find their way). So I went inside a different hotel and said I was lost, but if they had a room, I would stay there and ignore my original booking.
The receptionist made a couple of phone calls, and then some guy came from out the back and asked me to follow him. He got on a motor-bike, and I had to sit behind him, with my suitcase and rucksack! It is lucky there was no traffic at 2am - the trip was slightly terrifying, but fun as well. He took me to my hotel, and I was so happy!
    I said; 你是一个非常好的人! 非常感谢!
Good luck with your motor-bike skills!

For the hillstart. You use the back brake with your foot, then slowly release the clutch while giving it a little gas simultaneously. You'll feel the bike starting to pull, then release the rear brake and release the clutch more gradually at the same time.
For neutral, some bikes make it harder to find than others. Its a slight notch in-between 1st and second. Sometimes the bike requires you to move it back and forth while trying to find neutral or it wont go into it lol. Anytime before youre going to come to a full stop, make sure to shift down to 1st so then neutral is easier to find. Nicer bikes have a gear indicator on the screen that makes it much easier.
You just need to get used to the clutch and coordination, youll get there!

Yan, I love motorcycling "motorbikes" BUT I MUST to tell you, for YOUR safety,
the REAL danger when riding "motorbikes" is not so much YOU but other car drivers NOT SEEING you!
So ride as if you are invisible and expect the other drivers WILL make mistakes so you can avoid an accident.
I have been riding "motorbikes" over 50 years. I want to watch your travels for a long time too! BE SAFE !

Good advice. I worry for her first 1000hrs riding. I taught people to ride motorbikes, cars and aircraft. All of them were taght basic technical details of their machines. An electric powered motorbike or car far easier. No power curves and transmission clutches to understand.

Funny to see this, after I saw you speeding between cities with no effort. I never learned to drive a motor bike, but I am just happy with my electric bike. For longer distances I take it with me on a train (which is a standard option here in the Netherlands), and I was able to visit most interesting cities in my country, and the country side between them. I usually combine business trips with sight seeing om my bike, sometimes staying over for the night to visit special places. I never felt a divide between work and enjoying the world and its beauty, and I find it weird that many people do long commutes without enjoying all the amazing places they pass.

Congratulations Yan, you will learn it too. I myself have taught it to a few friends and my son. They all passed their motorcycle test. In Germany, a theory test and a practical test are required. The motorcycle test is sufficient for a three-wheeler motorcycle. However, there are four types of motorcycle license: there are classes A, A1, A2 and AM. A - All motorcycles and three-wheeled motor vehicles. A2 - Motorcycles up to 35 kW power, where the power/empty weight ratio does not exceed 0.2 kW/kg, which are not derived from a motorcycle with an engine power of more than 70 kW. A1 - Motorcycles with an engine capacity of not more than 125 cm³ and an engine power of not more than 11 kW, for which the power/empty weight ratio does not exceed 0.1 kW/kg, as well as three-wheeled motor vehicles up to 15 kW. AM - Light two-wheeled motor vehicles with a maximum speed of no more than 45 km/h as determined by their design. I have been riding a motorcycle since I was 16 years old. I have also worked as a tour guide for guided motorcycle tours to Sweden, Norway and England. I ride road motorcycles but also enduro and adventure bikes. Greetings, Sven a German in Sweden

Congratulations to you for getting your motorbike license.
I can offer one possible explanation as to why the lesson and exam are done on a motor-tricycle.
During the learning stage, students can fall out of a 2-wheeler motorbike more easily. Therefore a motor Tricycle allows the student to learn to balance while learning how to change gear, start and stop without the falling risk.
Since the student learned on the motor tricycle, then may not be able to expect the same student to pass an exam with a 2-wheeler.
Therefore there is a stage missing, which is converting the riding technique from a 3-wheeler to a 2-wheeler. Maybe the government expects the student to learn that on their own.

  • @Moksha-Raver

Motorbikes are inherently dangerous. Three-wheeled cycles are safer and that is why China uses them. As China's best vlogger, you need to be safe.

They can actually flip over quite easily unfortunately. They're good as farm vehicles or to transport stuff, just not great as an actual motorcycle. They're slow and bulky.

Hmm i think both have its own risk. My friend (about 27 y.o) have an accident when he rided a three wheeled cycles a few years ago, lose 1 finger and a broken leg and he never have a seriuous accident in motorbikes (most of us can ride motorbikes in middle school). He said its actually difficult to handled in high speed specially if you want to turn, maybe he just not used to it but it actually make me think maybe three wheeled cycles actually more difficult than a motorbikes.

In India we have two types of Driving licence, one for two wheelers and another for four wheelers if anyone get both licence at the same time it's cheaper with respect to individual licence. I also got the 2+4 wheelers Driving licence 2 years ago.
One thing I had done before applying for Driving licence was that I had practiced to drive in village area so as to familiarize ourself with motorbike and passed exam in first attempt 😊

Congratulations Yan! I think most of us can relate to the nervousness. I remember having trained in one car, but took the driving test in a different car. The instructor asks you to identify a few random switches. They asked me to point out the defroster. I was looking for a button with wavy lines like it was in the car I practiced in. But in the car I was testing in, it was a button with the letters "def" for defrost. I didn't find it in time and the examiner pointed it out. It made me anxious to miss one right out of the gate. But I did well through most of the rest of it, including nailing parallel parking, and passed. This was way back in the 80s, but I still remember it.

I assure you there was nothing wrong with that bike lol. The reason the engine keeps cutting is you're dropping the clutch with inadequate revs. Also, you were "rev" limiting the engine when taking off - I was actually scared because if you suddenly dropped the clutch, you'd go flying.
Basically, the clutch gradually ENGAGES and DISENGAGES the engine from spinning the wheels which allows for 2 things:
    1. To slowly take off from a stopped position
    2. To change gears or when we're going so slow and don't want the engine to cut
When taking off from a stopped position, there's also no need to rev the engine multiple times and certainly no need to rev it to its limit (check the rev gauge on the right). Just slowly increase the rev's to about 1,000 - 2,000 RPM while at the same time slowly releasing the clutch. Use the clutch to vary your speed until you need to start increasing your speed with the accelerator.
When you need to slow down, you should be using the clutch and brake at the same time. The clutch will prevent the engine from cutting while the brake will slow you. Keep the foot on the clutch again until you need to start increasing speed or to take off again. Again, slowly release the clutch and accelerate at the same time.
You should also learn about "gear selection". Lower gears does not necessarily mean you'll go slow, because as I said before if you rev limit and drop the clutch suddenly - you can imagine the engine is spinning at its maximum speed and is disengaged when you're using the clutch, but then you suddenly release the clutch, the engine will engage with the parts that make the wheels spin - meaning you'll go flying! Lower gears will give high torque from slow moving or stopped position.
It's not an easy thing to grasp but once you have it, it'll stick with you for life. Good luck.

      @mauipotikimanutui 5 місяців тому

Also despite your pass, the tests and exams seemed very lenient. They basically allow for people to fluke a pass and give them false hope of driving confidently when actually they still don't understand, permitting people who can't drive safely to use the roads. If you think the tests in China are bad, come to New Zealand.
Asian drivers make up for a large portion of people causing vehicle accidents in New Zealand and I suspect this is the reason why. They have their Chinese license converted into a New Zealand license without having to undergo the strict (but super reasonable) New Zealand test. After all, it's all about the safety of yourself and others on the road so damn right they should make the test as difficult as possible and keep those off the road who really shouldn't be on the road.
A bit of context from a different part of the world :)

Wow, what an experience!! Huge congratulations and welcome to FREEDOM!! I am sure you will ride a motorbike very soon. What a system you have to negotiate through!! In the UK, you have to do a theory exam first. Which is quite a recent thing. When I had a motorbike, I was allowed to ride one for 2yrs before having to take an onroad test. I decided to learn to drive a car. I really enjoyed being able to go anywhere without using public transport. I also had breakdown cover. I had to use that couple of times when I had a flat tyre. Am SO happy for you! Well done Yan, and, I hope you will eventually learn to drive a car as well, some time in your future!! Happy and safe travels!!
