Great demo, Woodie - I learned more *useful info about Genos 2* than in the longer Yamaha demos I've watched.
Good ole Woody's magic! 22 minutes video that you watch from start to finish. Can't wait for other videos on Genos.
that's great to hear, thanks!
Wonderful sounds and playing,woody!!!
It is great to see how you enjoy it. Thank you for the demo.
This is going to be a great video, looking forward to watching it. I really like Yamaha, I had a few models throughout the years and never been disappointed with them, enjoyed every model that I had from Yamaha.
Stunning sounds Woody. Love it
I love the fact that you remind musicians that extracting instrument sounds from a style can refine its needed simplicity when covering a desired song. It takes a trained ear, and some experimenting, but it beats spending hoards of time starting from scratch!
Epic Woody! Looking forward to the next videos!
Nice demo woody I have been trawling the internet for a good one, thanks for this.
Love Woody's easy and down to earth approach.. a breath of fresh air compared to others. Well done Woody
oh! much appreciate, thx!
Agreed
yes indeed, agreed!
@@WoodyPianoShack only telling the truth... you are always my first go to as regards keyboards.. you are really a joy to watch
Wonderful demo !
What an incredible instrument
The quality of the voices is fantastic. Your video was most entertaining. Thanks and thumbs up.
awesome, thumbs up all round then!
As a guitar player primarily, that nylon string is scarily great! Wow. 😬😀
that is praise indeed then!
Yeah, same, even the slides and pull offs are just at the right notes where physically possible and being done on notes a guitar player would generally do that. Although does that dynamically adjust as you change playing style?
Belle démonstration merci ! ❤️💐
New to your channel. Loved this review. As a Liverpool fan it’s great to see Klopp enjoying himself on the keyboard. 😊
lol, nobody mentioned that before. anyways, welcome!
Nice brass, thanks for the smile for the Indy interpretation!
I just purchased a DGX 970B. For the money, I am quite pleased with that for just over $1000 (w/ stand and 3 pedals) vs. this Genos 2 for ~$6000. To me, after watching this nice demonstration, the G2 would need to do much more to justify an increase of $5000. More buttons, dials and fancy external speakers don't mean any more fun or desirability! I have mine run through my home stereo and it absolutely makes EPIC music! It helps I live in the country and my nearest neighbor is nearly a mile down the gravel road!!! If I were in town playing this setup as I have it configured, I'm certain any neighbors would be hearing it! Thanks for the demo. That said, I believe I'll be enjoying my DGX for many years to come!
great setup you have there, it does sound epic i'm sure!
Great points. The Genos series, with its plethora of styles and sounds, is like buying a $6,000 jukebox. Whether you're a beginner or a pro, you're almost certain to have some degree of success in playing it. Thus, the beginner won't be likely to lose interest, while the pro can take basic skills to another level. Still, true musicianship, is in doing what you do--forming your own unique styles and sounds.
seven months later I can get the genos 2 vor less than 4 thousand and a genos 1 for 2 500 in Switzerland...
the prices are sinking and that changes the situation a bit
When an instrument makes a musician smile, it says everything you need to know ;)
just seeing the genuine joy on your face was worth tuning in .
thanks, yeah, this keyboard was full of surprises
Great intro video - much appreciated - thanks for sharing
What a fabulous instrument and played very well. Excellent video.
much appreciated, thanks!
Incredible showcase! 🙏
Beautiful demo! Love your voicings.
Nice job Woody! Thanks!
How nice to 'hear' the piano from my first years, here and now Woody. Felt goood 😂 Astounding characters on board of this ship 💦 thanks. 🎉
hi ron, thanks to you too!
@@WoodyPianoShack couldn't help notice how sounds put you in awe too 🙉 , inspiring energy to share. 🏋♀️🕊
My face went to smile mode when you played The Comeback Kid. Amazing video! :)
oh good, glad somebody got it!
To me it became kind of tradition in your demos. :)
The best reviewer award goes to Woody. I really enjoyed this video. You are the # 1 best reviewer. You should win an Oscar !!!!
hmmm, i'm not sure I can accept the award, but thank you for the amazing compliment!
Great video and audio. It sounds great on a headset.
well done, i glad you took the trouble to listen properly!
This is on my must have list great video Woody.😊
thanks, appreciated
Sounds delightful
Your smile says it all. Thanks!
Love the intro performance, made an Arranger sound cool which isn’t easy
lol! that's kinda my mission here, but i like the oldies styles too :)
This is the first video I’ve seen of this keyboard that doesn’t make it sound cheesy cabaret. Great video as always.
So agree!
Other vids I've seen on the G2 left me thinking that Yamaha screwed up a good instrument.
But, thankfully, Woody knows how to demo the G2.
I only wish that he would have or would do a section on focusing on how to and when to use After Touch.
I'm a big fan of After Touch and love it much more than the wheels or levers to create effects. With After Touch, instruments can really be made to sound real and interesting.
thanks, i will take that as a major compliment, it is one of my goals. although I probably can't resist some of the more cheesy styles, so be warned... thing is, there are a lot of people that actually like a bit of cheese.
It makes me want one and also makes me think why there can’t be a good soft iPad app. I know sounds stupid but bear with me GarageBand and Logic are amazing multi track but nothing exists to have arranger styles etc with a midi keyboard and iPad. No reason at all why it couldn’t be done.
@@WoodyPianoShack you should take as a compliment you and your channel are brilliant and my fav for keyboard and synth stuff.
You have convinced me to start saving up for Genos2 i already own Genos 1 👍🏻 thanks Woody always a pleasure seeing your clips 👏
ok david, best of luck with your quest!
@@WoodyPianoShackis the Genos2 that much better than the Genos1?
I had a Yamaha 9000pro and gigged with it for many years. Full bands, and trios. It was built like a tank, had 76 keys (I think) and weighed a tonne to carry up stairs, but it lasted and just worked. I never felt the need for a back up board. It was so versatile and it sounded great. I spent hours at home playing to the styles for fun. As you say it's not as easy as it sounds but it turned into a great pro board on stage without using the styles. I had it fully loaded with internal hard drive, extra RAM and 2 x PLG150-AN boards. Sold it a few years ago to an ex Yamaha tech who was so happy with it even though it was a bit battered and hummed a bit when it had warmed up. To me, the Genos seems an improvement in sound quality but not the 'gaping Chasm it probably should be, considering the years between them and the build quality looks a bit err...suspect, but I can only see from the video. Great video review BTW👍🙂
those old 9000s are a bit of a classic, and a powerhouse! to answer you last question, it's fine but would not describe the G as "built like a tank"! :)
I have the PSR 9000 and it sounds amazing! Still using it nowadays, i think that even the Tyros are amazing, in fact its the player which is important, i heard much cheaper boards with fantastic players and its just wow.
I thing you are the first player that i've seen starting a style other than c cord, i like your site you are a good player also have good sense of humor not that grumpy old that doesn't like this or that like another player on youtube sounds like he purchased the wrong keyboard to me keep it up I PURCHASED MY GENOS 2 was first waching youre utube
Very nice, very tempted
Thay Yamaha Genos is Beautiful sounding and looking , Woody you do wonderful...I Love your honest direct way of speaking about the keyboard and bloopers..and all , You play very well...
you'll reconsider when you see all the failed takes... :D thx for the message!

Wow that looks fun 😀
It’s so strange that for over 20 years some arrangers have been criticized for sounding a bit “too 1980’s”, but now that’s a good thing. Not complaining because the 80’s was an awesome time for music, but just worth pointing out IMO. We’re even seeing the throwback in the synth workstation keyboards too.
true that, in fact the g2 has an entire genre category "retro pop" dedicated to 80s!
Such a lovely board. Got mine on Thursday afternoon, and it practically havn't been turned off since ... I'm so sleep deprived now 😂
yes, the hours really do fly by! congrats on yours.
All of these electronic keyboards, from the cheapest to the most expensive, in the hands of a knowledgeable and skilled player, can be made to produce remarkable musical sounds. It must be very difficult for the manufacturers to find and tweak more bells and whistles to give their offering an edge over the opposition.
good point, indeed no different to any other musical instrument, you have to practice and master them to get good results.
Wow.. TinTin sounds more polished than ever. This would be an amazing live or party weapon. Not sure I would use it in the studio, but.. so much fun! I can tell you're having fun 😏
You're a great host, Woody. Congrats on moving up in the world! 😄🙂
thank you, i suppose this ia a move in some direction... :)
Beautiful👍
Thank you 🙂
Woody’s face after playing Indiana Jones says it all. What a fun looking keyboard and an excellent demo video.
Woody, as usual, you brought the insight and comprehensive instruction to help me decide if this keyboard is right for me. Most of all, you show us that with arranger keyboards of good caliber, you don't have to be a professional to sound like one! Thanks to your videos, I gambled with the purchase of a PSR-S975 about 6 years ago, and I now do gigs and open mics in my area. I'm still untapping layers of techniques and songs that I never thought I could play with real punch and impact. That being said, in understanding how to create beats and tracks from scratch, I can produce many of the rhythms offered in the Genos series. So in my case, the Genos would be an expensive way of saving time in playing the songs I know and like. Plus, with the sophistication of good mixers and speakers, the sounds can be mimicked to an appreciable degree.I'd love to know your thoughts on my perspective, and thanks again!
I have played arranger keyboards for forty years , and you timing and reflexes.and speed of hand has to be as fast as a ninja...In order to play them I have no problems ,,I love the arranger.,to create music with more then any instrument in the world ,, and what Yamaha.and Korg Roland Casio and many more , has done I hope they keep it up , In the last ten years I am very happy with , I use arranger keyboards as a base booard and other synths or all different brands , but mostly Yamaha to create music with ,, Really Woody what it does is it gives one person total creative control over the song they want to play and also you can select and rearrange any song in a different style learning this is where the musical art begins , having the talent first to even play piano , I started playing piano when I was 14 years old ,and guitar , drums when I was 6 years old and singing ,, I am well aware of softwear synths and multi tracking , I did studio work in 1980's I have played in country bands and gospel music and church choirs and also Listen to pop rock and edm and disco ,, I was choir director and pianist almost forty years ago and also went to gay bars in Detroit Michigan in 1981.. and heard Sylvester James music ,, Patrick Cowley ,, and Trio Da da da ,, and Soft Cell sex dwarf , Johnny Rotton ,sex Pistols ,,Punk , and Tent Revival southern Gospel music ,,and ACDC and David Bowie and Pink Floyd and the Singing Cooks and Dottie Rambo , I Love the Lighting seeds Ian Brodie ,, I call them my modern Beatles,... a bit hard for my old eyes to follow and read without paragraphs, but thanks anyway for the long and thoughtful comment! :D
nice startup visuals
I think ill add getting this keyboard on my bucket list. I am not a fan of boards like the 670, and this one reminds me of that, but on steroids. No weighted keys . Not saying it’s a bad board but may not fit me for my tastes. It does look fun! Great review.i liked the sound at @14:58
Or.. you could buy a UDO Super Gemini. Just a thought..
Brilliant, Woody, just brilliant! I hope Yamaha watches your videos on the Genos 2 and decides not to call the loan in -- you deserve to keep it. Maybe they'll "loan" you a Montage M, also? 🤭 As a Genos 1 owner I've been on the fence about upgrading, and these are the type of demos that sell keyboards! I can't wait for your next instalment in the series. 👏🎉🎹
hi, glad to help you in any way with your purchasing choices! i could probably borrow a montage if I asked around but tbh I just don't have time to learn another deep instrument.
Nice Demo Woody! For a performing keyboard player/one man band this instrument would be hard to beat.
I have the sx900. It’s enough for me but I’m a bit of a synth geek and own various other hardware synths and sound modules plus umpteen vst’s. Like you woody, my fave vst is….. Hive 2!
a man of great taste apparently, yeah 900 is a lot of fun and good value.
I would have been here for the premiere, but I had a call to make. Looks like a lot of fun to play.
better late than never!
Its hard not to be excited like you with all that at the fingertips. I own Genos one but now the experience gets tripple orgasmic.
that's noe a picture i want to see!
HI... thank youWoody . GOD bless you
17:40 Ross in Friends vibes... 😂 seriously though, great review Woody, looks like some piece of kit.
You said it required a bit of manipulation when you wanted to change sounds during you play.
2 quick tricks: 1. You can activate the One Touch Setting (OTS button on the left side). Each time you will change for another style variation (A,B,C,D), the right hand instruments will also change accordingly. 2. You can prepare all your changes in advance and save them in the 10 memory banks located below the screen. That way, you are always 1 button away of a perfect live transition 👍.
Great demo. Love it!
thanks for all the tips, much appreciated. was kind of aware of that actually but put these demo songs together rather ad-hoc and only used one registration per song, instead of one per song part. i'm only a couple of hours into this thing... thanks again :)
11:11 Finally, a real guitar sound on a keyboard 🎹
Thank you 🙂
The Tyros had this 20 years ago.
@Blastboy- I'm not familiar with that, but why did we have to put up with so many crappy guitar voices in the meantime?
I’m gonna be ordering one of these I think
Wow amazing.... looks like the competition is on!!!! Roland and Dan Smith & Behringer look out!!!
Sounds great :)
I love this
As an owner of a few Yamaha keyboards (PSR S500, MM6, PSR-D1 and PSS-A50) I could be considered bit biased but do like how Yamaha do things. Yes the learning curves are steep and lots of menu diving, but once you've cracked their code you can really get some performances out of them.
Hope there is the CP pianos on there too, and suppose you've played the tone-wheel organs 👌
Very enjoyable vid
thx for the comment, i find there to be very little diving on the yammie arrangers, they are a pleasure to use, can't always say the same about the synth workstations tho!
Thanks for the great information! May I please inquire as to which speakers you have mounted to they keyboard? They look perfect. Thank you 🙂
they are the genos accessory speakers from yamaha.
Great video as always - Thanks Woody
Was that a Roland keyboard stand I saw it sitting on? (LOL)
shhh, we don't talk about the roland stand.
Excellent demo, Woody! Thank you. What is the style you used for that last song? I really liked it a lot.
this was the "top gun" movie soundtrack style, although It's not called exactly that.
The genos 2 sounds good
I know this smile - My first impression , when I opened the Window and pluged it into the PA with SubZero 12 400HP😊
Some lovely split level playing. Not a fan of auto accompanying or the string sounds but the brass, nylon guitar & felt piano sound amazing
thanks for that!
Glad for you, hay Woody new today old tomorrow, I have the Genos 1 love it, where is your Video's on your Geno's 1, did you make any videos on the G1?
@@rcca07 no i skipped over G1, so PSR-SX900 direct to G2!
@@WoodyPianoShackdo you think there will be a Psr-sx1000? I cannot afford a Genos2 right now.
Great review and playing Woody! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
As for the first style you played, if you have enjoyed your teen years in the 80s, yes it will definitely remind you "Take on me".
But if you are a teenager right now it will remind you "Blighting lights" 😂
For A-ha's most famous song there is a more suitable style which is called 80sEuroFastPop at the Retropop category (it is also on Genos 1 and added with the V2.0 superior pack).
hi, yeah, well done for hearing that and putting me right!
Great playing Woody! And the keyboard didn’t sound bad either….
well, i'll take that, thanks!
Sensacional!!!!
Thanks for playing songs almost nobody plays on the G2!! I also hope to see your video of the speakers you use. I'm curious if a more expensive speaker is needed for good sound quality of if the standard speakers are enough. I wil only play it in my living room.
yeah, think i should review them, as I am in the same position myself of choosing good amplification system.
@@WoodyPianoShack.. I highly recommend a QSR 10 or 12 speaker. Mine is 7 yrs old and is 1,000 watts. The latest models are 2,000 watts and is great for pianos as well as organs....
Really thinking about switching over to Yamaha for my arranger keyboard. Been using the PA4x since it came out, and it seems like when they released the PA5x, the upgrades were not enough for me to make switch from the PA4 to PA5. I never understood the storage issue with the Korg PA series, they lack when it comes to storage, and Yamaha has plenty and the sounds and beats sound really rich. Thank you for the great demo!
u're welcome, don't have any PA experience, although may have the opportunity to demo the 5x in future.
The Pa5 is a prety big step forward from the Pa4 imo, but lots have been arguing that the G2 is not worth the update and just shows they havent really listened to the demos. Yamaha can still learn something from Korg but the G2 is also a prety nice upgrade once you realice that its not just a few samples that has been upgraded. There is several S.art sounds that has been reviced which you first realice when you actually sitting down and playing it and you know the Genos. Then you can hear many of those sounds that cary ower from the G1 have been slightly changed and just is more controlable with the different articulations. I do hope that Yamaha in a later 2.0 ads the posibility to load new FM sounds via .syx files. It's not a synthesizer, but just give us the ability to load more FM sounds. They only take up a few kilobytes in the user memory per sound. There should be plenty space in there for new sounds. And Yamaha really need to hire a team to redesign their YEM software or better .. scrap it and make something new that don't look like it was made pre Y2000.
I would love to see/hear you extend that rendition of Crocket's theme that you did at around 14:25. That was beautiful!
thank you, yes I have plans to do entire song covers, perhaps using more suitable styles and voices!
Woooooow Wooody it's my favourite SONG !!!!!!!
uhhh, which?
Hello Woody. Great demo ! 👍Thank you. Do you plan to demo the Montage M ? Do yo know if Genos 2 and Montage M share the same sound banks ? Thanks.
different sound engines AFAIK, the only similarity is perhaps the dX7 factory presets! but both can produce similar sounds, as all synths and keyboards do, so some tonal overlap. i'm not super engaged to get M in, as i'm pretty overwhelmed with G2, hydrasynth and Maschine+ and not feeling I have time to learn another complex instrument!
Concert Tutti.
In Italian, “tutti” refers to everyone, so that means that everyone in a concert ensemble plays at the same time. For example, you hit one single C note, you’ll hear horns, timpani, brass, cymbals…. Basically everything you’d hear in a full orchestral concert.
Thank you for the sound. That last one so Synthwave I bet I have heard it thousands of times. Don't know its name though, cannot recall it.
may have been something by the midnight
Superb 😃😄💗💗👌👌
nice monitors
👍 Nice demo. One question. Is there that much reverb on all the patches by default? (Yes I know the level can be changed)
good question, i'm using factory settings, but yes you can tune to your likings. although i don't find it too much or little when playing, feels about right.
When I will be too old to sustain gigs in pubs I will buy an arranger like this one to play alone at home. Too much fun...
I thought it sounded more like a backing for Don Henley Boys of Summer....gr8 machine and playing btw...🎶👌
it was a backing for something completely different, but that track seems to work in many genres... sign of a great tune.
@@WoodyPianoShackit definitely does. Thanks for sharing that gr8 playing 🎹 🎶👌
I have used a Genos before and I'm looking forward to try the Genos 2. Not that I'm really interested in owning one, but the Genos 1 was quite fun to use and toy around with ... up to even hilarious once you discover that you can plug in a microphone to make your voice sound like yodeling. I'm curious what if they added any more funny microphone voice models.
no changes to the mic features to answer your question. cheers!
Genos 1&2 are high-end Arranger keyboards for creating the most complicated songs of every genre....
for very professional keyboard players..... not absolutely for Toying....
But you do you....👍👍
Who am I to say what everyone can with their devices.... 😁😁
However you enjoy it... do it.. 😊😊
@@Talia.777 I think you misunderstood me. I do not own a Genos and never have. But due to work all kinds of instruments come across my hands regulary and every now and then I get the chance to play some of them for 30 minutes or so. So it's also not a very deep dive which I do at these occasions.
Splendid demo. I was thinking Roland fantom 8 but I think this is more versatile as in the set intro outro styles etc don't think the Roland has any backing at all ? Does the keyboard limit you as it is not 88 or weighted which is a n attraction on the roland
no backing on the fantom, except perhaps some drum patterns. you gotta make them yourself, and then it's a midi sequencer not realtime responding to chords. 76 keys is very luxurious to me, not limiting. i am used to 49 or 61...
Nice demo& nicely played.
What style did you use for the Miami vice theme?
Greetings from Belguim.🙋♂️👍🎹
hi, I think it is the new moroccan movie film score style, but i modified it beyond recognition by changing sounds and muting parts.
My 80s Soul has awakened. Hopeful, Melancholic but Lovely thing. .
Aside from the different pattern variations, can you do anything to alter them, similar to KARMA technology? On that, you could do things like adjusting the pattern complexity, note repetition, gate, bending, etc.
I’m also curious about how it works to create your own styles; is that possible?
you can create your own styles on the intrument from scratch, or mix and match parts between styes. or convert midi files to styles on PC. for these demos I just muted parts in the factory styles.
Did you have the opportunity to compare the keybeds of the Genos 2 and new Montage M6/7 ?
it is same part number, FSX, feels great.
Their team must have a blast making all these styles. I wonder how many people worked on them?
i'd love to know more about the process, song selection etc
I always say that playing one of those must be like being in heaven!
well i wouldn't go that far, but it's fun for sure! ;)
Interesting how many Genos2 videos have been popping up lately. Well it doesn't sound bad at all, although, in my personal opinion, I find those Arranger Keyboards to be over the top overpriced.
I am a bit impressed by what those keyboards can do today compared to back in the 90s. And it is a bit fascinating, and although I think it could probably be nice to have an arranger, I struggle to find any real use of them in my gig. I am mainly a vocalist and I use synths/sequencer as backing during my performances.
I could imagine it be a great keyboard in the songwriter workshop where it's used to quickly sketch out quick ideas for new songs and produce quick demos to present to the band.
I checked the online shops here in Norway, and it cost a whopping 60 000 NOK .. and for that much money you could get a MODX6+, a Nautilus 6 and MCP Key 61! and with those 3 synths/WS you could do almost everything and probably even better than the Genos2. More sounds, more sequencing/sampling/looping and definingly more tweaking of your sounds.
I mean Genos2 brag about having FM engine, well, I suppose it is presets, while in MODX+ you get 128 notes polyphonic, fully editable, 8 operator engine. It also have over 10 000+ arpeggios that you could put on all parts. emulating the styles.
With Akai MPC 61 you could also use to create "styles" more like you could sample the parts of the songs and loop whatever parts you needed to loop using the 128 pads (16 pads x 8 of banks)
Yes it would take more time to do this manually, but that is where the fun is? no? For me its not fun going on stage just reproduc... eh .."playing" something Yamaha made. For me I want everything to be handmade by myself. Down to a single note. And I can pat myself on the back "I did this.. I created it all" ))
Do I see myself ever buying Genos2? No way. Its too expensive. I might maybe get a SX900 down the line, but not now. Probably will be the next SX900 replacement. I could use it as a brainstorming songwriting instrument.
Would I use it live? nope.
I also think those keyboards are mostly used "live" by those who play "taffelmusic" at weddings or other parties where they sit and play during dinner but most people do not really pay attention to what is played, just that something is played instead of a CD player.
Ps. I think the style you played at the beginning is more "The Boys of Summer" by Don Henley than take on me.
thanks for your thoughts, yeah, i agree, the drawback is the price, i don't know how it is justified compared to other keyboards and synths from yamaha. but G2 selling well, from what i have heard, so what do i know? yeah, my riffs were from BOS, but on an innapropriate style, as I like to do... :)
hi woody your camera angle has cut your head off is great to see you with the fantastic genos 2 i got mine last friday
some people prefer to see the gear instead of my head. it's crazy isn't it.. :D
When the last track started I was sure it was going to be Top Gun Maverick. I think the bells on that were done on a (Korg) Opsix though 🙂
well spotted, that is what you are actually supposed to play to that style, but i do things a bit different.
Great demo and performance as always Woody! Well, I wouldn't use the orchestral sounds in Genos 2 in my cinematic or trailer projects as they still sound artificial. These keyboards use modeling technology to mimic the sounds of live instruments but still can't defeat the recorded samples in VSTs of course. I really don't know why arranger keyboard vendors even offer an orchestral genre sounds in a keyboard as in my opinion nobody is gonna perform orchestral music live as a one man band and these keyboards mostly used in weddings or live gigs at 5-star hotels. If we talk business, even if you record an orchestral piece in your studio, you can't pitch it to Hollywood clients because their ears are like radar that pick the tiniest artificial sound.
Other than that, it's an amazing keyboard indeed for the orchestral (non-business) hobbyist.
yeah, this will never be first choice for pro orchestral and score composers, we have NI and Spitfire for them, but fun and satisfying for casual players. those orchestral sounds are used in many of the styles where I think they work very well.
Oh, one more thing? How are the speakers of the Genos 2? I found the Genos 1 ones sounded pretty good, are they perhaps even the same on the Genos 2?
Same speakers… separate purchase… GNS-MS01.
Sounds pretty good. I've been watching a few demos of the Genos 2 now, and while it sounds pretty cool, you can still tell it's a keyboard. Not too surprising perhaps, because that's what it is.
Are there any options to design you own sounds and registrations as well?
not sound editing other than filter and amp env. but you can easily do some splits and 3 part layers, the fx are very comprehensive
Of course you can do detailed sound edits with the keyboard itself and for advanced editing, with YEM software :
YEM stands for Yamaha Expansion Manager
Apart from layering and many many great and really beautiful effects...
@@Talia.777 YEM is a joke tho. It's in the exact same state as when it was introduced with the Tyros. You can only edit your own custom samples, not the internal ones unless you know how to edit the acomodated XML files in the YEM user settings on your computer manually, which is maybe easy for a seasoned programmer but far beyond the skills of 95% of those playing an arranger. The YEM software won't let you choose an S.art sound in edit mode. It can only edit a standard awm multisample.
@@mrdali67 I meant exactly editing my own samples with YEM not factory sounds.... 😅😅😅
It will do OK for my own sample to high extend... But...
In comparison to korg arrangers sound editing capabilities , Yamaha arrangers has nothing to say whatsoever unfortunately..
@@Talia.777 No it's a bit sad when they have had about a year to realice that the Pa5x is far better in actually decent sound design cababilities. Yamaha will have to drop this clear distinguishing between Arrangers being preset programs and Synth being the only ones that have advanced editing of the sounds, and honestly the availability of the filter and resonans settings in the Genos is practically worthless. Very few sounds where it makes any difference at all. At least most of the sounds is fantastic as is.
Very well done, your playing is priceless. But the Genos 2 is very expensive and what benefit does it really bring over previous versions or the cheaper PSRs. And does it finally have polyphonic aftertouch? Is there only a DX7 engine and not the FM-X?
i would say the cheaper psrs offer great value for money, but this has premium features like nice keybed, bugger screen, more controls, sounds & styles. but worth the extra 3 grand, only you can decide. mono AT and no FM-X just standard FM (maybe 8 op?). yamaha never disclosed the engine. it basically plays some built-in Dx7 presets as far as i can tell.
This oldtimer thinks that just about all keyboards have "bugger screens"!😜🎶🎹🎹🎶Play On
The strength for the Genos towards Your audience would be ( I think) the ability to make new arrangements for classic pop songs. Yamaha has that Midi fie to Style application. For example: Propaganda has that classic 80s song Duel with amazing lyrics but it is glued onto these 80s FM synth stabs. If you could play that song with using mostly orchestral sounds from the Genos I think you would make a big hit because I never found a decent re-edit of that song. (Moreno J has amazing re-edits but is missing the orchestral power of the Genos).
yes, i agree with you there! love duel!
