    Incredible video! I was waffling for months in confusion about acoustic-electric vs electric solid body and amps, and you laid out the differences with additional helpful info (I didn't realize that the amp could help me get that reverb sound, I thought it was the uke... haven't been playing for very long!!). I feel like I have the info to make the decision now. Thank you!!!

    Thank you so much. I am a 58 year old and have always wanted to learn the guitar and read music. Last month I decided to buy an electro acoustic Ortega baritone uke as I liked the idea of it being tuned to the strings of a guitar but only 4 of them lol. My family is buying me an amp and an effect pedal for Christmas. Your video has been so valuable to me. Thank you. Ihave been learning for 3 weeks off you tube and from a book. I have managed to learn about 6 chord shapes but still struggle switching from 3 finger chords. However I am a real rocker and can play an almost recognisable Mary had a little lamb tune. I am going to follow more of your teachings. You made this video so clear to understand. Thanks again. Dermott.

      @@UkuleleWales Yes!! I love the sound and friends who are experienced guitar players also think it's great. I'm working on Smoke On the Water - will do a video if I can ever get it "performance ready". It's been a learning experience for sure. Within minutes of unboxing, I managed to break the E string. So I quickly had to learn about string replacement and tuning. My only problem now is an intermittent grounding hum. It disappears if my fingers are touching the strings (i.e., most of the time) so it's not a huge distraction. But I'm wondering if you have any tips or tricks for fixing that hum.

    • @UkuleleWales
      @UkuleleWales  2 роки тому +1

      @@georgeandyrose It may be a dodgy cable, a hum caused by pedals, an earthing issue or even just the "normal" amp sound. Yes, the strings don't need myc turning or hard strumming to break. Normal guitar stings can be used though.

    Hi! This was SO useful in helping me get started with the electric ukulele. If I wanted an overdrive pedal, to get that rock-guitar noise (novice language, I know, I'm learning) would I be able to just hook that up between my ukulele and my amp? or would I need additional equipment ?

    Hello! Just saw your video and I really love your setup! I actually recently purchased a baritone ukulele and was thinking about adding a pickup and preamp. • @UkuleleWales
      @UkuleleWales  4 роки тому

      Hi, personally I prefer a passive pick up but your best thing would be to talk to a luthier or ukulele shop to see what would suit the instrument. If you are going to have a go yourself, there is an Electricfying Ukulele group on Facebook who may be able to offer advice.

    • @UkuleleWales
      @UkuleleWales  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the lovely comment. I think it depends really what you want from your effects. Many players just like a bit of reverb and chorus for when they are performing. Others love to have more effects built into an amp as it's easy to use but you don't really get as many different effects and sounds just from an amp that you can get from pedals. For me personally, I love being able to mess about with all the different sounds you can get from either seperate pedals or indeed a multi fx pedal and so never really looked at amps that had lots of built ins. Fab to hear you have a bass on the way too, congrats!

      I haven’t actually done this myself but I think you’ll need pick up / eq system of some kind. Some need to be fitted inside the uke, some can be just stuck on. Have a look to see what you would be happier with as some systems will need butting the ukulele body to fit. Sorry I can’t be of more help, maybe one day I will try it. 👍

    • @UkuleleWales

      Really depends what sort of sounds you are after. Using a solid body with steel trings will sound much more like an electric guitar and you often get more sound range from a pedal but electro acoustics do work great with effects. If you already play guitar, a solid body is probably going to be easier to swap to.

      Hi, to play an electro acoustic ukulele it is exactly the same as a normal uke. A solid body with steel strings use the same chords but is a little different in feel to play with some different techniques that can be used to. I would definitely say tru an electro acoustic and then have a play with amps and effcts, that way you will be used to the feel of the uke.

      Hi miss Wales, hope you had a great weekend.
      I wondered where Phil came from, I’m guessing that is South Wales .....I’ll check it out on the map.
      Yes the Marshall came last week, Wednesday I think.
      Did not get to check it out until Saturday when the Gibson Les Paul arrived.
      The first Les Paul studio I bought was bought in Bangor, North Wales back in mid 90s
      Unfortunately this Les Paul looked very Peculiar with the paint work, I was concerned about it over the weekend so I emailed photos to the store today and 3 or 4 guys checked the photos out and they believe the finishing is not right.
      So it goes back tomorrow, it’s Walnut .....something just don’t look right in a large patch around the bridge.
      I chose an Ebony instead.
      They told me today that they have checked it out and everything is perfect with it.
      I’ve spoken to a few different stores over different products recently, and lots of these instruments don’t get checked when they come into the stores.
      I guess because it all time consuming stuff to do.
      You would think that ever time they receive an order they would check it before it goes out the door.
      But I guess realistically if it’s a large busy store with lots of online orders to deal with they just don’t have the time or staff to do it.
      I bought my Ukulele from a Store in Essex, that was the one with the batteries that did not work.
      That is a comparable small store I guess, but the manager told me the Gretsch concert was not checked.
      That was only a battery issue that cost me about £2.50 to replace, it’s not what you want after paying £169 but what can ya do.
      I was pleased they even had it in to order.
      I’ve been searching for different guitars nylon and steel strings, and ukuleles recently .....I’ve lost count of how many items are Out of Stock.
      All kinds of issues with staff and supplies because of Covid, and Brexit don’t help!
      I’m not ordering anything from Europe, especially after herring the story of the guy from the U.K. ordering an expensive amplifier then gets a Import Tax bill for £1000 😮😮
