Those complaining about the back up vocals I think are the same people who does not know how to sing with back up vocals. if you listen to back up vocals alone it doesn't seem sound good, but once you mixed it with your lead vocal with the right notes, the blending sounds great. For the non-pro singers, indeed sometimes it rattles them, but the technique is , do not mind the back up sounds, just go with the right notes that you need to belt out and you can hit the song perfectly with the right tune.
For everybody here that keeps complaining about the backup vocals, let me just say that you people wouldn't last a day in the music career, because you'll have to sing with these kinds of back up vocals.

If you sing the notes of the lead vocals of the original song, the back up vocals harmonize well. I was singing it in a different octave with a different melody and they didn't match, but as soon as I switched to the original octave and melody, they matched right up.

Second: real musicians know how to harmonize and in fact prefer it as it adds strength and depth to the melody of the song. Third: did you ever stop to think it's possible you're just not that good at singing?
