The most detailed and exhaustive explanation and demonstration of the correct method of throttle-body synchronisation that I've ever seen. Congratulations Chris ! - AL in s.e. Spain
Can't thank you enough for all of the efforts involved in making this Video available to isolated (I live 3 hours of highway away from the nearest shop) non-mechanics like myself. My 2002 R1150RT kept on dying (Total Shut Off) when Shifting Gears, and all of the scuttlebutt online suggested a Faulty Kick Stand / Gear Box Sensor. However, when watching the RPM's go down to (approx.) 700 Rpm when Depressing the Clutch, I realized that the Throttle (fuel flow) was the problem. So, a bit of adjusting to the Cables (Choke as well as the Cold Idle was (approx. 700 RPM as well), I now have enough (950) RPM when Depressing the Clutch while Shifting to keep the Fuel Flow(ing) sufficiently. Next: Re-Setting both Choke & Throttle Cables to Standard (1 mm) and then tossing the Tupperware to get down to the other side of things; which I was dreading until you Posted this awesome 5 Part Tutorial. You are a really decent guy Chris, and I thank you!
Nice job Chris. I bought the same model almost 3 years ago. Have done all my own work thanks to your direction. Your adamance in calling parts by their proper name has not been lost on me. I'm prayin' God puts you and your family right where He wants you. Hoping that's a wonderful place you all can call home. Thx again Num. 6:24-26
Great story about your customer’s R75! The joy you must have had when you solved the problem.EUREKA!!!! Thanks for all you do for these wonderful machines!
Thanks for explaining the chattering noise coming out of the throttle bodies, and the simple solution of making sure there is free play on cables. Great Video!
Bro , thank you so much for these videos, saved me oh bunch of money and guessing, your videos were literally god sent. I was having this exact same problem and right before I took it in I came across your videos and did exactly would you basically did and Poof!!! My bike is running like a champ!! Thanks again brotha! 👍✊👏🤘🏍🏍🏕🗺💸📸
Love these 'no bullshit' vids. Impressive when an old rider says, It's a whole new learning curve. Gonna order one of those Twin Max for my '03 T100. Pisser is that Triumph buried those Keihins in the frame and I have to pull them because the cold start enricher circuits are plugged FFS. Awesome vids Chris. Greets from Roger in Edmonton.
Chris, I have an 02 1150rt. I have a weird problem For no apparent reason the spedo starts making a weird sound, and the spedo starts reading wildly. This happened to 3 years ago as well. After a few minutes it clears up and all is well. I think the original owner had this problem as well, since the millage is shown as not accurate on the pink slip. Probably replaced the spedo under warranty. Ever seen this before? Any ideas?
Hi Bob, the problem occurs only when rolling, correct? A failing speedo cable can do that. These instruments are usually quite reliable as they were made in Japan, not Germany.
Glad to see you are back to publishing videos. Wish I would have seen the ignition coil video before dropping my R1150RT off at the shop on Tuesday. Mine is doing the same thing.
thank you from your channel, i bought 1150 gs and your have helped me so much in everything, oil change etc. because i looked yur channel i did get oilfilter sealing off from motor before i put new filter in. greetings from north europe, scandinavia
I want to ride through Norway, Sweden and Finland right up to the Russian border, just so I can piss over the fence. But seriously, I would love to see those countries. Hi from Canada.
Watched all five. Just got 97 r850r and immediately had to change the clutch. More hours in to working than riding. Chris repair video was clutch... now know to check free play and tune the throttle bodies.
Thanks for these videos Chris! Even though I only work on my airhead, I learned much I can use. If you travel somehow take you to Oregon, feel free to ping me.
Worked nice on my R1100R. Very happy for these videos. Keep up the good work. I bought some Staburags on ebay. Received 2,4 kilo. Think i have a lifetime supply :)
Hi Chris. Could you tell me please where on earth do you put the two earthing wires that come from the negative on the battery please? I can't find anything in my manual? Hope you can help. Ian.
incredible how much better that engine ran after replacing that coil and synchronising those TB's. At first it sounded like it had a bad rod knock or something... it really ran that horrible.
There is a small radiator in the returning line to the gas tank after the pressure regulator valve, may be to return the gas cold I guess. Have you seen this?
Great video. Back in your element. Didn't know you quit working on Boxers. Just to old or what? I couldn't keep my eyes off the one in the corner. great video. Can't wait till the next one. What will it be? How about that Boxer!
bryan, I needed a rest and the only way to accomplish that was to limit what I work on. Video here: ua-cam.com/video/qnvDMAh8yl4/v-deo.html Thanks, Chris

Chris, find a dealership to let you do tapestries and then do motorcycle review videos. Your opinion counts because of your analytical mechanical thinking.
Hi Joe, thanks but what would I review, new machines? I don't need a dealership job for that I can do that from here right now. Do NOT buy a new BMW anything, ever, anywhere, for any reason. Buy old and keep your money in your pocket instead of corporate BMW's greedy ass. They've screwed enough people already. It's beyond time to turn the knife around. How's that for corporate team spirit?! :)

Hello Alan, thank you. More to come after I'm settled in the new place. I hope you are well. Chris

there is no fence...i have pissed there:).
Thanks for writing, jussi. More videos soon, Chris
The fence is around the United States. Think about that for a few moments.
Nice to see ya wrenching. That R100 is nice. I like your old airhead videos. They helped me a lot while working on my R50/5 and R90/6.
Thanks Curtis, there will be more videos coming soon as I'm settled into the new place.
Watched all five. Just got 97 r850r and immediately had to change the clutch. More hours in to working than riding. Chris repair video was clutch... now know to check free play and tune the throttle bodies.
Amazing help as always! Thanks Chris once again
Thanks for these videos Chris! Even though I only work on my airhead, I learned much I can use. If you travel somehow take you to Oregon, feel free to ping me.
Thanks for writing, John. I'll be busy in my new shop for a while so my travels will likely be this side of the continent but thank you.

Man it is good to see you again. Hope all is going well.
All is well, indeed, H Smith, thanks!
Hi Chris.

It shows how weak that secondary spark really is, doesn't it?!
Stick coils stuffed into a hot cylinder head is a dumb idea crafted by people that don't care about reliability. Arschloch oinks in approval!
I like your videos, like good old days!, Chris I have a question: I have a second hand K100RS 1985 (love it) why some body install gasoline radiator?
Hello Raul, what do you mean 'gasoline radiator'?
There is a small radiator in the returning line to the gas tank after the pressure regulator valve, may be to return the gas cold I guess. Have you seen this?
Send me a photo please!
You can see the pictures in facebook
Awesome finale.
Came out AWESOME ! Good work, Sr. !
Thanks, JIGA!
...the paint mark doesn't mean much after 20 k as the cable HOUSING compresses over time, just a couple of mm's but worth a measure after 20 k
Working on it yourself does make the ride better, usually.
I think so.
Chris Harris ,
Goes more for you than for me, I think.
Good work again, thank you. I don't have my old R1100 any more so why I am i watching? because its good.
Thai's one hell of a compliment; thank you!
Chris I am glad to see you are back doing your magic on the bikes again. BTW what is the best way to get in touch with you?
this is Thomas from MA.
Hello Thomas, e-mail nhbmwshop@gmail.com to reach me. Chris
nice to se your new works!!, wine seems good too!
Fabian, the blueberry wine was great. I think some more today would be a good idea!

"That's the way to do it" :)
Thanks, John!
I need to try that wine.
