Without doubt the most informative instructional BMW maintenance videos on UA-cam, thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge and giving up your time to produce these excellent videos. Very much appreciated.
Love your style of explaining what your doing Iv very little confidence with doing anything with my bikes but you give a really fully comprehensive run down thank you
My 1996 R1100RT now has 100,000 miles on it. You would think a 2 cylinder bike would be easy to work on. Wrong! Even simple things like a battery change is an PITA ORDEAL! My son likes working on bikes, so I gave it to him. My current ride is a Honda.
Thanks for the informative video. Made the job much less stressful. By the way, the snorkel on my 2004 R1150RT has the SLOT attachment, so one doesn't have to remove the screw totally.
Great vids. I am looking forward to more of the R1100RT resurrection. I have one that I do my best to keep up myself. We are running out of SMEs such as yourself. My local BMW dealership will not take my 1999 in their shop. Your guidance is greatly appreciated.
Hi Chris, Today i managed to change the battery thanks to your video. It is an old bmw 1100 RT from 1995. Unfortunately i put a battery in that is probably a little too weak for the ABS system as the red light is blinking. But thats ok. ABS will work anyway. So thanks!
I love my RT 1100, except for this PITA issue. Battery replacement takes *FOREVER*. :( --seriously, it's easier to adjust the valves than replace the battery.
Much appreciated for the info I just kept my fathers old bike after he passed and just want to keep it nice but just like bmw cars motorcycles are a pain in the ass to work on 😂
I’m honestly surprised how bad that old fuel pump was from the other bike. My 1150 was stored for 4 1/2 years with 94 octane (0% ethanol) and fuel stabilizer ... must have made the difference as mine was like new when I replaced the fuel filter.
Thank you Chris for an other great service video I am looking forward to see whats inside of the fuel tank. Great bike the R 1100 RT. the non hydraulic clutch model. Greeting from Erik in Ontario.
Thank you can I was wondering where the short & long screws went. And I love the screen in the snorkel. Should I do that? BTW I am on the market for new tires for my 1150rt. Anyone you would recommend? I am on a budget. Thanks Chris
Chris thanks for all the videos. I am owner of K75 and your videos helped me a lot. Do you happen to have a video of disembling and servicing the forks? I need to change seals but never did it before. Thanks and keep up the great work,.
Always my go to channel for all thing BMW service related! 😁👍 👏 Best BMW service channel on youtube! I need to replace my battery - what is your opinion on LiFEpo (lithum) replacement batteries????
Easy! My #1 request for electrical diagnosis stems from Lithium battery use. If you enjoy electrical gremlins use a lithium battery. If you'd prefer your BMW to operate as designed use the type battery that it was designed for: www.beemerboneyard.com/batteries.html
@@ChrisR.Harris I found this subject covered in passing in one of your other videos. I ordered the lead acid battery for the BMW, and I will relegate the lithium to the KLR. The KLR has such a tiny battery that it could use the extra reserve capacity more than the larger Beemer battery. Thank you for the speedy reply. :)
This is insane! You can't even jumpstart without removing all that? Ill sell mine and buy a busa. The more I watch the less I like BMW anymore. Thanks Chris.
The FishingReel well. What do you see in other brands maintenance videos? You should know en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mean_time_to_repair and other repair metrics for BMW are above avg industry
It definitely seems like you know what you're doing I was following you very closely until you got that goddamn toy started squeezing it that's a little weird
Videos from this man from years ago would have comments about how silly small parts from bmw would cost a fortune. They were making you squeel like a pig as you emptied your wallet.

Hello Chris
As a new used R1100RT Bike Owner with weak battery. I will say Many thanks from Germany for your excellent explaining. Very helpful.
Glad to see you back on here Chris. My 2000 looks just like this bike. Lucky for me my battery is good for now.
Thanks Chris, you got

I thought, and I was wrong...what does this hippy know about motorcycles. Well I found out he knows a hell of a lot and is a great technician!

Good timing. I went to my Rt yesterday and it was flat.... but I have done it before. They only seem to last a couple of years 😐

Would you say this a great BMW motorcycle to own is someone had a chance at a well maintained example
Yes Thomas, the R1100RT was BMW's best selling model for several years and I deem them more reliable than the later models such as the 1150.
Nice, you added info on the fasteners and their locations. I lost track as to where the longer ones go.
👍🏻 that was esey Nice work 👏🇸🇪
Getting to the battery on my 1150RT is the same , a MASSIVE pain in my ass . lol .
Yes, same thing.
Any hints on the removal of the front fairing? It seems impossible to loosen the nuts that hold the headlight, but there must be a way...
anyway to put a trickle charger on the battery easily so you can just start her up and take it out on a nice day during the winter???
I'm haveing problem with getting my headlight to work. R1100Rt P 1999 CH P
Hi Chris, did you ever have trouble with the Anti Lock Breakingsystem?
Sure Tom, ABS can be a BIG pain in the arschloch! ABS I and ABS II were better than the later iterations from Berlin.
Hi Chris, you good?
Thank you very much 👍🏼 you explain very good than you

BMW engineers took a battery and built a motorcycle around it. What a terrible design.

That's a shitty thing to accuse someone of. No, brendan with a little b, I am not drunk in this video.
