John Oates...what the hell? The guy for decades who took a backseat to Daryl Hall for years just threw it down for us. You are more than just a guitar player an back up singer as portrayed in every article.
@@jasonfeathers7958Haha, it seems it's not about performing but selling his copyrights to a third party. The breach of contract case is about John sharing their private business-contracts without Daryl's permission. Hopefully they work it out with the lawyers....
You should listen to their EARLY, earlier stuff from the 70's. One of their least favourite albums they recorded, but one of my favourite, Beauty On A Back Street has two songs John wrote and sang, "The Girl Who Used To Be", and "The Emptyness". Him and Daryl definitely had different writing/singing/performing skills, but found ways to make it work. And. I guess that meant that John was kind of the second man. Even though, I never saw it that way. But, it's hard to argue that Daryl really was the front singer for most all of their songs. I was 10 years old in 1981, and not only became a huge fan of theirs because of Rich Girl, Private Eyes, Can't Go For That, You Make My Dreams, etc, but I became a huge fan, even at that age, and for many years to come of their earlier stuff, because I was that nerdy 12 year kid who bought ALL of their albums from old shops that carried everything from Voices, at that time, all the way back to Whole Oats. I have every album, Past Times, Abandoned Luncheonette, A Live album from the 70's, War Babies, all of it. I think you will really enjoy the two I mentioned from Beauty On A Back Street by John if you haven't already heard them. Check them out!
John Oates!!! What a great artist!!! I've never head such a cool and sofisticated version of "maneater" !!!! And you are handsome! I wanna grow old like you.
Yeah, he's so underrated that he sold millions of albums. Was one of the top acts of the 80's. He was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, and he and Daryll Hall sell out concerts tickets at every show. Sure...
How is this not getting millions upon millions of views? Top tier musicianship, groove and feel! And people'd rather listen to heavily edited stitched-and-sliced digital material.
Man oh man is he a smooth player. I never knew. This is such a great rabbit hole I have gone down tonight to see Oates play and sing with his own band. What a treasure.
Outstanding rendition of this song. I have always loved your song writing John. That's some tasty playing there Guthrie Trapp, the way you hold the pocket and support the song is something I hope to learn from.
Thanks you I really appreciate for the lovely comment and kind words , I just want to say thank you for the supporting of my music I hope you won't stop listening to my songs? A completely different vibe and I LIKE IT. I didn't know John could sing like this...wow!!! Super wow....not to mention his guitar playing. I am more of a fan now.
Underrated???? John: “Hold my beer.” Seriously, this gives being under rated a whole new meaning. John should be the only one to whom the term is applied to.
Yeah, I was there when the original version hit the charts in the 80's. I graduated high school in 1980. This is a KICK ASS VERSION!!! Great work John. :)
That was friggin awesome. I like the voice he puts on maneater, but what a brilliant style of playing acoustic. Would this be considered like maybe a jazzy-soul, piece? Does anyone have another description? I really was blown away since this was the first time I’ve ever heard him sing.
How did Daryl take all the credit? He gave Oates equal billing even though all the hits were lead-sung by Daryl and most of the hits were written by Daryl. Not sure I can think of another example of such a thing.
I hung out with one of Hall and Oates crew guys a couple weeks ago, and he said that Daryl can be a real dick. That he'll "rip someone a new one", for little to no reason, and totally ruin the vibe of the entire day for everyone.
John displays fine musicianship here, great delivery, embellishments and arrangement. Often times partners in a band do their own version that sucks compared to the original, this is not the case here or in any song John has reimagined. Perfecto, keep giving us more interpretations John your performances are enhancing the catalog and your persona as a man and a musician. Daryl should be proud of you. The legal battle between the duo confirms the realities of life. I hope both parties come to a good resolution soon. This from a Diehard Daryl Hall and John Oates fan as a duo and as solo acts. John keep showing us how its done musically and how to keep the music playing.
Guthrie Trapp on guitar is an amazing musician but he lays it down very subtly in the background. He’s literally doing a “John Oates” behind John Oates.
Daryl took the lead on most Hall and Oates songs, but this reminds everyone that John Oates can sing as well. Two very talented muscians who gave us a lot of great music in the 1980s and early 1990s. A few songs since then but most of their output was those 12 years.

I can't believe. Amaizing permormance. When you come to Argentina?
John Oates is a great a artist. I love his voice.
Always has been visible.
No wonder why Daryl won't let John sing there songs solo John does a better job
@@jasonfeathers7958Haha, it seems it's not about performing but selling his copyrights to a third party. The breach of contract case is about John sharing their private business-contracts without Daryl's permission. Hopefully they work it out with the lawyers....
Wow, John Oates is damn good. Never heard a version of maneater like this. Amazing!
Love this version and love John Oates - what a talented songwriter, musician and singer.

Forty years and I've only heard John Oates sing twice. smh A great musician.

Just floored by how good the quality is for being live. I wonder if there is a record for this because I would buy it in a heartbeat!

Wow!!! What a cool Superb version💯😎
Underrated???? John: “Hold my beer.” Seriously, this gives being under rated a whole new meaning. John should be the only one to whom the term is applied to.
Not satisfied with having a hit, John says, "I can make it even cooler!" And Guthrie Trapp is just one of the best. Wow, loved it.
Nice to see this version of his song, and I am loving the drums that Josh Day is playing with him!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍...from Chile.....

What a superb talent but we all knew it before
Wow!!!!! I did not expect this!!
Awesome
what a fucking amazing musician 😊
Anybody else getting Ray Parker Jr vibes on this song? John's voice reminds me so much of RPJ on this song in particular.
Kills it. Respect
We were ROBBED! This man should have led the vocals on so many H&O songs! C'mon, Mr. O!!! Get it!

No hate tho

He has stuck it out all this time with Hall
What ur forgetting is they do 2 different types of jobs one is a lyric monster the other shred’s guitar 🎸
For those who don't know, John wrote Maneater. And Out of Touch.

💫✨ 💯 “JOHN OATES!!!” 💯 💫✨
No wonder it sounds so damn good, he’s got Guthrie Trapp backing him up on stage. Legendary.
How are people just sitting there... I cant not move to this!
Guthrie Trapp on guitar is an amazing musician but he lays it down very subtly in the background. He’s literally doing a “John Oates” behind John Oates.
wtf??!!! awesome version...sexy and classy! hahaha.....John Oates! Legend!

is the man ! best friend daril hall is the man !
Maybe the Former mates will work it out. In the meantime John Oats is killing it and very talented in his own right.
Nice playing on the 335
