I am done knitting clue 3. Excellent ! well written instructions. There are 3 of us knitting together and it is fun with our yarn colors. This is😀 great fun.
To those who haven't done a mystery knitalong yet - Stephen is an EXCELLENT teacher! It's well worth it even just to learn some techniques.
July is Art Fight, which I look forward to every year, but I'll keep my eyes on the patterns for when I (finally) learn how to knit socks 👀 I love me a wild sock!
I wasn't going to do this MKAL but after watching the video I'm intrigued. I did a quick stash dive (my fingering yarn is closest to the "surface" of my stash) and found 3 possible combinations -- it'll be tough to decide. This will be my project for celebrating my retirement from my job of over 30 years! Woohoo!

I'm so tempted to try this! I've been knitting one sock from James N Watts pattern (which I love), but it's hard sometimes to motivate myself to finish. This sounds so much fun and I would love to have a funky colorful pair of knitted socks. Let' check out the colorways!

Oh, dear, I've already got a stack of works in progress - and while I'm fast on the flat, I'm a bit slower in the round. But colour splash contrast socks (including a little cabling which doesn't worry me) do sound like fun.

Actually, strictly speaking, I've only got a couple of works in progress but I do have a lot of little gifts that need to be done by Christmas - first was completed yesterday. And, to be fair, I wouldn't expect socks to take all that long to knit.
EDIT: I yielded to temptation & enrolled in the mystery sock knit-along and I've ordered a pair of hanks of sock yarn. I think the colours are gorgeous.

I am ready for this. Mr. West I could not find the colors I want so then I came to fingering weight in your soul pink yarn and well I fell in love with the purple and the sunny yellow. I hop these two will be okay.

Would I be able to use 9" circulars for this pattern?
Maybe for the larger sizes. the stitches may stretch out a bit over 9" circulars, but if you've done socks on them before, then it should be fine.
I am excited to start. I have purchased the pattern from Ravelry and I have my yarn. I am about to knit the swatch and I have a question. It says knit 11 repeats or until you reach your size…what size?

Will there be a size range for the mystery sock? Asking for my pudgy feet. 😬
Yes. Stephen mentioned 2 skeins of yarn is plenty "for all 5 sizes of the pattern" (I don't doubt this) so I'm sure you can choose to knit them as long as you like at a stitch count best suited to the width of your feet. Sizes are likely similar to Stephen's other socks.

Socks are designed to fit an actual foot circumference of 7.5 (9, 10.5, 11.5, 13)″ / 19 (23, 27, 29, 33)cm. The socks are designed
to fit with negative ease. Choose a size with a finished foot
circumference measurement that is approximately 1″ / 2.5cm
smaller than your actual foot circumference. Measure your foot
around the center part of your foot. For example, if your actual
foot circumference is 9″ / 23cm, then knit Size 2 of the sock. The
sock should fit nice and snug on your foot with negative ease.

Can this surprise pattern be done 2 at a time? I tend to knit 2 Ata time to avoid 1 sock-it's.
Yes! I knit mine one at a time, but if you want to knit 2 at a time, you will just need two sets of needles.
I use magic loop both on the same long needle. I have found it depends on the heel if it successful or not. I am participating in your year of socks as well and the garter heel works great for this method. Wheeze the heel is a surprise....we shall see if I can make it work. Thx for all of you hard work and the effort that goes into making such fun knitting experiences for us! You rock

Quick question about measuring: It says "Measure your foot
around the center part of your foot" -- does this mean the actual center, where the arch is, or should it be around the widest part, like around the ball of the foot? Thanks! This looks exciting!
I measure around the center where the arch is. This is sometimes smaller than around the ball of the foot, but I like my socks to fit with negative ease so the actual sock circumference is a bit smaller than the foot, so the sock fits nice and tight and not too saggy or slouchy.
@@StephenWest I measure 21 cm so I'm unsure which size to choose since I'm right between the first size and the second size -- 19 (23, 27, 29, 33)cm. Should I go with the 23cm and wash in hot water or the 19cm size and stretch it a bit with wearing? Thanks So Much!
@@orangepoppy In case you don´t get an answer from Stephen, here´s what I would do: Knit the sock on a 2.5mm and make the 19cm size, or go down to 2mm and make the 23cm size. (Depending on which needle size you prefer.)

@@1010papillonhi! I hope you don't mind me jumping in to say that I knit all of my socks top down with a heel flap and gusset. I always start with the biggest sock, usually 72 stitches or thereabouts. I decrease to 64 stitches while I'm knitting the gusset.
These numbers are what you see most commonly in socks although it does depend on the pattern. I wonder if this approach could work for you. I'm sorry if this information is redundant for you.
@@Jennifer-jn2gv hi, thanks for your reply. No problem, thanks for the tips. I have some pretty intense swelling above my feet, so it's just easier to adjust as I go along from the toe up. I'm sure it can also be done top-down, it's just a bit more hassle. I might still join and knit for someone else, but just wanted to let the voice of the team toe-up be heard, in case there's a chance for a future knit-along to be that way.
I won't be able to knit regularly for the first half of July :( if I sign up for the KAL/buy the pattern and yarn, will I be able to start later in the month?
I've done a mystery knit along before and everyone's really encouraging about going at your own pace and starting at your own time. You might get the first couple clues spoiled if you're on a lot of knitting social media, but as long as you don't care it doesn't matter!
Yes, you can join any time with the knitting. There will be 4 PDF updates with different things happening in the sock each week, so you can start anytime.

You repeatedly refer to the darker color as the main color. If I have an orange and a navy blue, can I use the orange as the main?
YES! You will see more of the orange as the main color. That will look very fresh and fun.
Oh wow! Those are the very colors that I chose. I’m rethinking them though and might go with orange and then a speckled orange. I can’t make up my mind. Sock yarns are so beautiful.
My first sock-adventure. I really hope not to have second-sock-syndrome
There should be enough time between clues for most people to knit each clue twice. Knitting both socks as you go will mean no second sock syndrome. Stephen is an awesome teacher and if you have access to Ravelry there will be plenty of knitters in a discussion group there, set up to talk about the sock KAL and help out anyone having an issue.
I normally work both at the same time so if not i dont do the second one, and i want a pair. So i do 2/3 rounds on each one just to keep them up ,,
If you don't want to be knitting them simultaneously, I recommend casting on the second sock as soon as the first one is off your needles - no waiting in between. Casting on is often the bit that you put off, but having that already started makes it easier to just pick up and carry on with number 2 😊 xx
I Knit Them Both At The Same Time, Two Sets Of Needles Of Your Choice... 5 Rows On One Sock, 5 On Another, They Go By Quick.

I will try the two socks at same time and knit both on separate sets a few row at a time. Looks like a simple solution for what I thought to be a huge problem
