A very beautiful reaction 💐! It was performed in her 1999 TV movie: Double Platinum. I see 👁👁 you have reacted to Brandy before: Full Moon, Sittin' Up In My Room, Best Friend, I Wanna Be Down, Baby, Cinderella Melody, The Boy Is Mine and Brokenhearted. Have You Ever was released as the third single from Brandy's 1998 album: Never Say Never. It was written and produced by Diane Warren. It was produced by David Foster. The song reached #1 on the Hot 100, #2 on the R&B chart and #25 on the Adult Contemporary chart. The music video was directed by Kevin Bray. At the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards the song nominated in the category of Best R&B Video. However, it lost the award to Lauryn Hill's music video: "Doo Wop (That Thing)".
In the song, a heartbroken Brandy is devastated after losing the guy she thought was the one. She's not likely to get over it anytime soon, still hoping he comes back. Brandy was just 19 when this song was released, but it comes off very adult, as what she's singing about is far more than puppy love. Musically, the song is also very mature, with a smooth mid-tempo groove.
On Soul Tracks Brandy recalls: "That was the first time I had been in the studio with a producer like David Foster. My voice wasn't as developed as it is now and the song required what producers call 'money notes' - the kind that get you a #1 on the charts! I was really nervous but it all worked just fine".
Brandy performed the song on several TV shows. On January 11, 1999, she hosted the American Music Awards. During that evening, she performed: "Have You Ever?", in a gold-colored evening dress while accompanied by an orchestra. On January 20, 1999 She also performed the song on the CBS late night talk show: Late Show With David Letterman. On April 13, 1999, she performed three songs on VH1 Divas Live 2: "Have You Ever?", was the opening number which turned into "Almost Doesn't Count", and then "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You". The performance was seen by over nine million viewers. It received a positive response from Jet magazine which described her performance of the song as "enchanting".
    Lyrics 🗒:
    Have you ever loved somebody
So much it makes you cry?
    Have you ever needed something
So bad you can't sleep at night?
Have you ever tried to find the words
But they don't come out right?
Have you ever, have you ever?
Have you ever been in love
    Been in love so bad
You'd do anything to make them understand?
Have you ever had someone steal your heart away
You'd give anything to make them feel the same?
Have you ever searched for words to get you in their heart
But you don't know what to say
And you don't know where to start?
    Have you ever loved somebody
So much it makes you cry?
    Have you ever needed something
So bad you can't sleep at night?
Have you ever tried to find the words
But they don't come out right?
Have you ever, have you ever? Ooh
Have you ever found the one
You've dreamed of all of your life?
You'd do just about anything to look into their eyes
Have you finally found the one you've given your heart to
Only to find that one won't give their heart to you?
Have you ever closed your eyes and
    Dreamed that they were there
And all you can do is wait for the day when they will care?
    Have you ever loved somebody
So much it makes you cry? (Make you wanna break down and cry)
Have you ever needed something (So, so bad)
So bad you can't sleep at night?
Have you ever tried to find the words
But they don't come out right? (Oh)
Have you ever, have you ever, ever ever? Ooh
What do I gotta do to get you in my arms, baby?
What do I gotta say to get to your heart
To make you understand how I need you next to me?
Gotta get you in my world
    'Cause, baby, I can't sleep
    Have you ever loved somebody
So much it makes you cry?
Have you, have you ever needed something
So bad you can't sleep at night?
Have you ever tried to find the words
But they don't come out right? Ooh
Have you ever, have you ever?
    Have you ever loved somebody
So much it makes you cry?
    Have you ever needed something
So bad you can't sleep at night (Just can't sleep at night)
Have you ever tried to find the words
But they don't come out right? (Don't come out right)
Have you ever, have you ever, ever, ever?
    Ooh, have you ever?

      Miscellaneous Note 🗂:
Since the start of her career, Brandy has named Whitney Houston as her most prominent music and entertainment influence. Early in her career, she would often describe Whitney Houston as her “idol”, crediting her voice, music, and performances as critical to her, both personally and professionally. In a 2014 interview, Brandy stated that, “as a professional musician, I would say that Whitney Houston is the greatest voice of all time”. She elaborates, saying “She was always the idea for me. I wanted to be like her, sing like her, and do everything she was doing”. Beginning in the late 1990s, Whitney Houston would evolve as a personal friend and mentor to Brandy, with Whitney Houston nicknaming herself as Brandy Norwood's “godmother”.
