Sooo excited for this thing. Love all the projects but really glad your keeping this 4age and doing it super old school. I don’t know anything about setting up carbs so I’m looking forward to the jibber jabber about it! Always loved 86’s and super excited for each stage on this thing and hearing those Carbs scream!
Tidy project you've got. Glad you're sticking with the 4AGE. The Beams would of been a good swap, but this fits the vibe better. Can't wait to see it all done and maybe doing some rings lad?
Yeah I was all for the beams at first. Then I drove it with the 4age and just loved the feel and realized this car is way more about feel and fun than outright power and speed. I have plenty of fast cars. This just needs to be enjoyable. Revving this thing to 8-8500 with the carbs sucking in air is what I want more than anything.
@@Taylordrifts you dont need to do anything to the fuel system. trust me i actually know what im talking about (the one time i actually know something. i can run you through the proper way to do everything for your carb conversion. dude shoot me a dm Mightbe_ed

I daily my bike carbed '93 VW Polo and aside from the cold starts being a tiny bit of a challenge, it never fails to put a smile on my face! Very excited to see this build take shape
I have in my basement OG Watanabe AE86 rims from like 20yrs ago stored. Always wanted one of these but never got the chance to get one. So excited on this build
So god damn happy taylor got a 86 even if I am late to seeing this, genuinely one of my favorite youtubers just because there's no bullshit, no overhyping, just a dude that likes cars, chill as hell, and makes some banger content. Hell yeah man welcome back to the 86 community dont let this one slip haha!
You're probably the only person I've watched the full length video of you just doing shit around your shop for 20-30min. It's like hanging out with a buddy and also very informative at times.
When i rebuilt the engine in my wifes first car i borrowed her uncles ohv/ohc vlave spring compressor And it made it super easy to set the valve spring and retainers.
I like this retro build with Cams and carbs. My brother had a '78 Pinto in the mid 80s. It was .040 over 2.3L, 10:1, solid lift Racer Walsh Stage 3 cam , ported D port head , Cyclone header, Offy 2bbl intake and a 500 CFM Holley. It was a blast and really fast.
The 86 content was exactly what we needed!!! Also do you think you will end up doing a different look on the cefiro? Get rid of those wonky bolt on flares? In my experience and opinion they look much better on a 17 inch wheel aswell
Yeah it’s on the list. Tough to make videos on since people don’t like the car much. But I want to do weld on flares and paint it back the purple it was stock ideally.
@@Taylordrifts is that the feeling you get? Its a cool car for sure theres alot of quirky jdm bits and bobs for them but they can be a notoriously easy car to make look bad and hard to do right! Proper ae86 content. I enjoy the bike carbs on my 3TC although I need to do some tuning and more modifications, but I couldn’t be happier. But MAN do I miss having a 4age.
Damn. So absolutely stoked for this build. Been hoping you’d have some updates for this and the message the other night. Ooooh boy am I stoked for this one. Ae86 builds are few these days and an coupe in millennium jade. Epic.

I am so fucking stoked for this build. I have a 74 Datsun Z that I am building. I have decided to keep it old school. I have an L28 wIth weber carbs and header back exhaust. It sounds amazing, but I have little to no idea what the hell to do with the tuning and maintenance of the carbs and the linkage systems, and that is kind of terrifying. Being a 90s kid I am intimidated by the "simple" tech. Its very cool to be able to watch your approach to this build as it closely mirrors what I am trying to do with mine. Its so sick to see something old school. If we, as car guys, are going are going to preserve these classic cars, we have to understand how they work, and a link ecu wont save us this time!
I love the idea of building something exactly how you want it don't listen to what other people are saying. If it brings a smile to your face all the negative feedback is just white noise.
I see from the pics you have Weber’s. can’t wait to see you you jet and tune. I have some old version Weber 45s on my 280z that I’m just starting to jet and tune.
I know exactly what you mean with a car "for the nostalgic feels". My NA Miata serves that exact purpose, and it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it :-)
Best video you've done in a while. Full on custom built competition cars are cool in their own right. But this though, it has so much character! The smiles per gallon it will give are priceless. Greatly looking forward to future 86 videos
Love it, ITBs give the best induction sound.. Which is definitely the way to go with nostalgia build like this. Did you see the Green Bride D1 car pulled out of a hedge in Ireland? Nice lil vid on @juiceboxforyou , Amazing to see it again.. Think you'd enjoy the Irish scene if you ever get the opportunity to come.
I miss that Z haha. That car and series is what pushed me to start looking into drift cars. I now drift a 370z irl after ten years on a simulator and couldn't be more pumped! Thanks for the inspiration Taylor!
You’re going to love the bike carbs once you get them dialed in! I have a set I retrofitted to the L20b in my Datsun station wagon and they have been one of the best upgrades I’ve made to the car.
I LOVE this content. Car, purpose, plans and edit. Awesome Also definitely good to follow your usual strategy of "run it first, then experience what you want to do for your end game".
Yeah exactly that. I want to just tinker with this car. Enjoy the struggles and the process. It’s weird for me since I’ve never wanted that. But with this car that’s what it’s about.
Be careful with adjustable cam gears. I thought it was LZ but I remember 'somebody' having the adjuster bolts coming loose and cam timing changing. Think 4age is non-interference but with the bigger cams I don't know. I think the adjuster bolts are supposed to be loctited once set. Cool build👍
I'm into every single build so far. Been here since Cleetus put your Z into the wall. Subscribed right away. Your a talented dude and you make the jibber jabber understandable
spray can paint hack, use a heat gun. Use it before you paint, to help evaporate any oils, or degreaser left over, and inbetween coats. It won't be fully cured at the end, but it'll be good enough to handle. Also, porter cable has cheap heat guns, and mine is on its 4th year of pretty heavy use! Taylor, should just get a milwaukee though, if he doesn't have one yet!!!
The excitement about the build, the details in the jibber-jabber, the thought process explanations...
These are a few of my favorite things!!
Agreed

Heck Yeah!!! I was hoping you would finally get some time, to work back on the AE86.
I’m super excited to get this thing going! This car gives me all the feels!
Don't forget to check shim clearance when installing bigger cams.
Taylor’s explanation of staying focused while working is spot on 👏 it’s so easy to zone out and go into autopilot 👨🔧
Make sure you check the valve bucket clearance to the new cam
