      You could just use a 100mm block of wood nailed from underneath and drill a hole through it. Connect the bike with its axel.

    • @MichianaMadman
      @MichianaMadman  Рік тому

      @rufflesal that would definitely work.

    Phenomenal little hack for storing a bike! You’ve created an idea for a build I’m going to be doing with a truck topper, thanks!

    It's very important not to tighten the axle, cause if the width is not spaced properly according to the fork (100/110mm) you can bend the stanchions or the casting..
    But it's a nice idea!!

    They have 1/2" PVC threaded nipple/inserts for the t-bracket to avoid metal upon metal contact... \m/

    • @MichianaMadman
      @MichianaMadman  2 роки тому

      I originally went with the plastics ones but the inner diameter was too tight. I thought of drilling it out a bit but ended up trying the metal ones and they worked.
      I plan on making another mount soon and I’m going to be using all PVC.

    Great idea! Tho instead of offsetting the mounts front/back, just rotate them a few degrees so the bars won't conflict.

    I used to do this with my Trek7000 in my '07 Nissan Xterra and all I had to do was quick-release my front wheel and I was good. I'm trying to find a way to do the same in my Rivian R1S but the roof is too shallow to leave my saddle on. Just keep in mind that every vehicle is slightly different and this solution may require tweaks depending on what you drive.

    love this! I'm actually looking for a vehicle soon and want to do this. What length of cargo space do you recommend for a large framed mountain bike? Mine is small but always nice to have the option for a larger bike for a friend. Thanks!

    If the aluminum axle is damaged by the harder metal, that is steel, will it go through the wheel hub?

    • @MichianaMadman
      @MichianaMadman  Рік тому

      Over the years of using this, I haven’t had a problem with my axle being damaged.

    is the wood attached to the car in any way?

    • @MichianaMadman
      @MichianaMadman  6 місяців тому

      No, the weight of the bikes keeps the board from moving.

  • @milton3672

    I didn't catch the name of the piece that you pushed through the iron after you shrink the plastic on both ends of the iron fitting

    • @MichianaMadman
      @MichianaMadman  Рік тому

      That is just the axle (Maxle) from the front wheel/fork of my bike.

  • @GritForceEnduro
    @GritForceEnduro 3 роки тому +1

    this wouldn't work on a 15mm axle would it? .5" is like 12mm or so?

    • @MichianaMadman
      @MichianaMadman  3 роки тому +1

      The axle in the video is 15x110 so it should work.
      That being said, there are smaller/larger diameter pipe fittings that can be used.

    • @MichianaMadman
      @MichianaMadman  2 роки тому +1

      The board itself has some weight to it but with the bikes on top, it doesn't move around.
