Good report! Yet, the title is a quite misleading, although i get your point. I first thought there was a disastrous service, your seat broke down or the crew mishandled you:))) What i saw was a decent business class product, better than many airlines who have used Covid as an excuse to downgrade. Food looked nice, the beverage list as well. And if you were still hungry: it usually works in business class if you nicely tell the crew and kindly ask them whether there was a meal left. I see this so often in videos: people complain about things which they could at least try to change a bit themselves..this is only 2nd best, I know, but better 2nd best rather than being unhappy:) Just ask next time, if you want more..it always worked for me:)))

Disappointing catering service but happy to see the paper menu made a comeback.
I have learned that the meal portion is not enough for years, bring your own food is much recommended.😃
If you ever been traveled in BA business class to HK，you will know how good CX is.
BA is an absolute joke, I'll not fly long haul business on BA especially if the aircraft features 2-4-2 / 2-3-2 business class
Bear in mind that the crew on this flight was either under a closed loop arrangement, or they were quarantined for 3 days upon arrival in HK, before they were allowed to go back home.
Couldn’t agree more. I traveled back business from the US to London BA 777 in 242 config. Next week flew from London to Hong Kong on a 777 Cathy business, 121 config. The difference was staggering how much better the Cathy product was. BA suck.
I have flown both CX and BA on this route and I can tell you emphatically CX is much better, even if food service may be a bit mediocre. On a long flight the most important thing is always the seat and BA seat is awful value.

It really depends on what passengers prefer in terms of flight schedules. I've flown both 250 and 252, but 250 departs in the UK in the evening and arrives in HK in the afternoon. At that time, I felt like I lost more than half of the day. I'm the person who likes sleeping on the flight and then getting the entire day for myself after arrival, so I definitely prefer 252.
I flew from amsterdam to Hong Kong on Cathay and it was always great service and better than KLM…and no it’s not Singapore
Problem is that CX change their flights a lot these days. We were scheduled on the 250 but that flight was removed and they put us on 252 instead. Not a big deal really. I do hope they do not switch aircraft since I actually prefer the 777 with the smaller Business Class cabin behind the First Class
If you can sleep, you will love CX252. Wake up, arrive in Hong Kong with a full day ahead of you.
Your portions tend to be small depending on what items you ordered. If you ordered a plate of fresh fruits for dessert; this dish tends to be small in business class. From seeing your video your meals seemed fine for business class. Both British Airways and Cathay Pacific Airways recently won airline service awards. They are both members of the Oneworld Airline Alliance which wins service awards every year from business traveller magazines. In the video you have spelled the word "Chinese" wrong.

Sometimes some CX London flights switch aircraft between 777-300ER and A350-1000
That's correct, occasionally they will deploy A350-900 too but the seats are quite similar on all CX long haul flights, so it's not a big issue

Now watching it, I can say that prefer this departure time if you want to arrive Hong Kong at morning and via a direct flight.
What is the point in providing storage spaces around the seat when the cabin bag can be stored in overhead bins ? And there is nothing
called jetlag if you have slept on the flight.. It is a mere hype. Of course, it is normal to feel bit tired for some , which is part of any type of travel. A window on an aircraft toilet is a facility and never a thing of concern , unlike a transparent window on the ground.
Sadly Cathay is a former shell of themselves, the pandemic didn't help and neither is the political, social and economic variables. I hope they can rebound and be on the forefront of innovation and top quality once again. Thanks for the video.

I’m flying to HKG in August 2023. Hopefully no more quarantine by then.
The hk government have just reduce the quarantine period from 7 days to 3 days recently, there are rumours suggesting there will be no quarantine by the end of 2022

I used to fly CX F all the time but now I avoid Hong Kong. The best lounge in LHR is CCR
you can't pretty choose if you need to arrive hong kong at morning time
dont know why the top layer of the noodles looking so dry. years ago when flying to hk from toronto i ordered a bowl of laksa. very very yummy. btw. cup noodles are for the economy class only. cx doesn't serve cup noodles in business class
it's actually a tradition way to serve the wonton noodles, while let the wonton at the bottom to float the noodles on top. The purpose of this is to avoid the noodles become too soft.

I have wonton soup, it’s great, hot and delicious, the flight attendant remind me take about 15 minutes to prepare a wonton soup, I enjoy C X business class, the service is excellent, I was persuade to try different kind of snack, desert, and continuous Serve Champagne until I says enough.
As you have to quarantine on arrival, "full day a head" is meaningless as you are not allow to go anywhere except the quarantine hotel. I agree, day time flight means, you will not get much quality sleep as your body have not adjust hence you arrive "sleepy and tired" and perhaps grumpy. Hey it does not matter as you can sleep 24/7 for the next 7 days ( now down to 24/7 for the next 3 days ). Night flight tickets are generally more expensive then the day flight tickets. Was this the reason you went for the day flight? As for the food, you should not be shy. You could ask for a second helping.
CX252 was the only option when I booked my ticket. I will be happy to pay 200GBP extra if I can get eat on flights departing in the evening
For many years, even pre-COVID, i always found Cathay J class catering is just a bigger poriton of Y class meal putting on a posh china and served to passengers, whether it's western option, steak, fish, or chinese options, pork ribs, chicken... taste the same and feel the same among the classes, just different portion and presentation. So J in CX for me is i can have a wider seat with flat bed and rest for a few hours properly, and the service... it's just varies and depends on your luck i suppose.

I thought Cathay Pacific had a slightly better service, but has the service changed due to the corona crisis? Even so, I was surprised by the passengers who raised their legs.
The crew were probably quite upset about their new contract and also the situation in Hong Kong where arrival quarantine was still required. So the service situation is disappointing yet understandable

Yes agree the timing is bad but worse still is this is the worst I ever seen for CX business class catering. I can't imagine economy. Not to be critical and no offence I have flown on business and economy on CX a few times not long haul but regional over the years prior to the pandemic but this is bad. Cost cutting for sure even SQ but sadly you mentioned even service was mediocre at best. Well the pandemic has hit hard esp for CX we all know why. But at least you are safe. Take care and cheers.
Thanks for the comment. Catering has been a problem for CX for so many years already. In my opinion, it's far away from the best in the industry such as SQ, JL and NH, but it's still slightly better than let's say Lufthansa, AA and most of the European airlines. Hope CX will come out from the pandemic stronger and offer better catering & services for customers

@@adamli8774 Do not forget to ask for MORE if you are still hungry. Are you on a day flight back to LHR?. Today's news suggest HK may scrap the 3 days quarantine in Nov in time for the Rugby 7
I always found Cathay's pillows to be wrinkly and smelly. God knows what they do or do not do with them.
have been eagerly waiting for over 25 years, but not seeing CX's business class has any chance of beating SingaporeAir's onboard services and meals. another thing, in most CX long haul flights that have been traveled on, business class staff appear to rush their services for their next agenda, which is staff rest area and sleep! sigh!
Don't think CX will beat SQ any time soon, not only in business but also in all other cabins

yep, cause it's short staffed with one less crew on business class compared to other airlines, it's beyond hectic for them to complete their taste on time in a full-load cabin. Management need to fix this issue for sure

Hey, I'll have a flight on the CX252 very soon, however I've seen many newer videos on yt about the CX252 being an A350, but on flightradar websites etc, they all say its the B777. Do you have an answer to what exact plane is the CX252? I would love to fly on the new A350 for the first time however I'm afraid that when I get to the airport it'll be an old 777. Is it because CX252 used to be a B777 pre-covid? and now they replaced it with the A350 but the websites never updated the plane model?
Cathay's official website do publish the aircraft type for CX252, which will be 777-300ER for the foreseeable future. This is the only aircraft that has first class and CX is offering first class service on CX251 and CX252. So it will be a 777 for sure

The last time I flew business class on CX was on a 747. That tells you how long ago that was! I had really good flights and excellent food; yes, I remember the portions being bigger and presented more elegantly. Oh well. Who knows when it will be before I fly to HK again....
CX retired their last 747 at 2016 I believe, unfortunately never got to try their herringbone business class
My experience flying 747 is great, I always book upper deck business class, the old days seats are not 180 flat, but quiet upper deck, however, couple of the time I was upgrade to first class on 747, the foods are excellent, they serve Dom Perignon, Oserta Caviar, not the best, but second to Beluga, Chilean Sea Bass, prawns, Chamomile tea, multiple choice of desert cart, chocolate…., flat bed, I personally love old timer 747 first class, the service is excellent from boarding till landing
