I dreamed about a GameCube Joy Con style controller for years, and then Nyxi finally made it happen! I got one recently and now I’ll use my Switch even more lol.
i was around when gamecube first came out. metroid prime was the game i loved. we only got to play on the weekends for a few hours and other times was always outside doing better things
Wavebird was the first wireless controller I used that didn't suck. I remember being genuinely surprised when it, y'know, worked. The IR wireless N64 controllers on the other hand… .
so a guy named ShankMods did a custom pair of GameCube joycons and they're cool as hell. love the way they turned out. they ended up using a real wavebird shell and so on
I actually have the GameCube switch controller and I have to admit that it feels and works very well Edit: the one that I have is the 3rd controller that appears on the video
which 1? the joycon version or the 1st switch g.c. controller? I heard that controller is only compatible with super smash bros and works for 0 other titles
@Dave Manifold I have both (and maybe a problem 😅) but they should work with pretty much anything on Switch. Functionally, they're more like "Gamecube-style" Pro Controllers. Though the Nyxi Wizard (joycons) has rumble and back buttons while the PowerA one doesn't. I honestly like both of them a lot.
@@3Captivated I see the nyxi wizard is 115$ on ebay now. They just been released this month I believe. B4 they came out the original msrp was 70$ man I want 1 alot but could nearly buy 2 Nintendo branded switch pro controllers for the price of just 1 nyxi wizard. Was it hard to get 1? I didn't see many on ebay. Not alot of people know about em yet.
@@jareddavidmanifold313 the 1st one, or the Power A GC controller is basically just a pro controller. it'll work with anything but mine have been unreliable for vairous reasons so maybe hold off on it
The Wireless controller by PowerA is a good option, although unfortunately it only operates with AA batteries. However, if you're looking for something similar, there's also the Hori Gamecube controller. It's a better option if you're looking for a rechargeable battery via USB-C.
The power A controller to me is small af in my hands. I used the PDP gamecube controllers for a while now I'm going to get a dongle and play with the OG ones.
Those Wavebird wireless controllers were expensive AF when they first came out back in the day. My parents weren't about to spend that much money on a controller for me. Lol
It wasn’t all that long ago that GameCube joy cons were just something someone did as a project for fun to see if you could even do it. Man, this is so cool 😊
I wish I had the money to buy the Gamecube joycons and the Gamecube controller for the Switch. The Gamecube is something I never got to play (because I was born in 2009) so I never really had the chance to experience how old consoles were like. Using a replica of an old Nintendo console for the Switch would be a pretty interesting change of pace for me
When nintendo wii was about to release, I bought a wave brid wireless controller from $1.50 at Walmart then about one to three week later I bought racing steering controller Was comparable with the xbox, PS2 GAMECUBE that cost like $120.00 for $10.10
Wavebird is still the best controller ever made, Original gcn as a close second, it is the better option for more precise games like melee or for speedrunning
The OG controller, WaveBird, and NYXI Wizard are superbly designed and excellently built controllers! I actually recently got the Wizard and, aside from a longing to have a shorter C-stick, it's everything I hoped it would be! The PowerA controller loses a few points in my book because it's slightly smaller than a regular GameCube controller and I have not had the best of luck with them quality-wise. It's a damn shame, because the controllers themselves are comfy and very good for playing Smash, they just tend to break for dumb reasons. Also, it doesn't have rumble and runs on AAs, which are downsides. I'm fairly certain that Nintendo will be releasing an official wireless variant of the original GameCube controller at some point. Something tells me the only reason they haven't is because they don't want another situation like the Bluetooth N64 controller, where it's really only available to the public for seconds before some scalper buys them all. They know exactly how popular Smash Bros is and they are waiting until they have the ability to mass produce them.
Okay but do any of the recent controllers have triggers like the original gamecube or are they all clicky buttons that function differently? The way the PowerA triggers work negate some game functions that rely on the original gamecube triggers
The switch wasn't the first GameCube controller to have a left bumper. I have a GameStop original GameCube controller with a left bumper and a right bumper
Ay man I’ve never really held a gamecube controller before and I don’t really got the money to buy one, so can you like, make a vid where you just hold the controller and use it?
again, people leaving out information. The wave bird revolutionized wireless signals in the attired! Before the wave bird, just walking in front of the signal, would shut it off on all wireless signals
Whatever y’all do don’t buy the wireless power A GameCube controller for the switch, A button instantly jammed. Returned it with warranty and got a new one and it happened pretty quick again

@ShankMods made GameCune joycons out of the Wavebird and the pair of JoyCons.

Love GameCube controllers
My reaction to No.4:"WHAT THE HECK!!! THAT"S SO COOL!!!"
"[the wavebird] really changed the way we modernized gaming controllers wirelessly"
Sounds like the scriptwriter had a stroke writing that sentence.
I got the NYXI Wizard and other than a slight delay for wireless, it feels so good in JoyCon mode
I personally use the Power A Wired Gamecube controller and I recommebd it especially at the low price of 25 bucks when wired.
That third one is the perfect upgrade to the original btw
The GameCube Joycons make the switch a freaking beast in size and design and I LOVE IT.
I'm going to be honest that last one surprised me
Yea these are awesome
Do we all agree GCN has the best controller design?
I have a PowerA wired one, excellent controller, and the cable is very long and doesn't bother at all
Aw yeah! Love the GameCube controller so much! So comfy! I really want one for pc! 😅😁👍🏻

I absolutely loved the Wavebird controller.
I know I had a Gamecube controller with ventilation against sweaty hands :D

I like the Switch Gamecube controller perfect for every game and more for Fighting games
I like the GameCube joycons 😊
Cool joycons!
God i miss my wavebird controller... wish i still had one
i remember before the joy con ones there was a youtuber who custom made them and they were essentially 1:1 of the originals
it wasnt “essentially 1:1”. it was an actual gamecube controller split in half.

Some people call it the Wayfair and not the wavebird

The Wavebird changed the game but at the cost of losing rumble support in games. No force feedback.
