- So Erin broke her ankle in two places at Nutmeg Nor'Easter - after a long recovery she was finally ready to get back in the saddle! Join us for a chat as we ride our gravel bikes down the Freedom Trail. How does she feel being back on the bicycle after all of this time?
I was riding Otis's Surly Midnight Special and she was on her Crust Bombora - who wears the pink and purple better?

Huge thank you to everyone for the support! V glad to be back on the bike with everyone - even if just virtually with most of you. ☺️
Yeah Erin's back. Welcome back to two wheels. It was nice of you sharing your ride and chat with us. Take it steady.
Welcome back Erin. Great to see you on your bike.👏👏
“I’m back bitches”. You gotta love her. 😊😅😂
😅
So nice to see you back! Starting out is the hardest part, I think. Got to see Erin at the coffee shop recently when I accidently "fan-stalked" her. :) Is that a word? But she was very gracious and kind. Thank you, both for continuing the inspirational feeds. Good to see the Freedom Trail virtually.
Oh, and I actually didn't pay attention to thumbnail (so sorry), just saw message and was eager to see the update.
She mentioned that! It is so nice to have her back out there!
So good to hear Erin is on the mend! If she wants to strengthen her ankles, once she is feeling stronger, have her get a pair of barefoot running shoes or barefoot/zero drop hiking shoes. I've been running in Merrell trail gloves for years. So many benefits of thin soled, zero drop, barefoot footwear: mostly much stronger ankles, calves, and knees. Just a thought. This was a great vid, as all your vids are.
Nice to see her back on the bike. Hopefully the recovery get well. Greetings from germany 😊
🎸😎
Dude I feel this one personally.
November 2023 broke my right heel really bad and had to have surgery on it a plate and 8 screws.
Then second surgery to remove the hardware cause it was causing damage to my tendons in foot.
Almost a year later and I’m finally getting up and around quite well again of course financially we took a HEAVY hit from it all and now have back issues we are addressing all I want to do is find a retro bike and get back in shape!
Long story short found y’all here recently and love watching your content! Living through yall here in Tulsa, Oklahoma
I hope the recovery keeps trending well!
Cheers!
Erin you have done, so well, because you are so fit. You look amazing. I’m feeling my age now and I’m so careful.
It's very hard to dress right in winter. I found it's better to under dress and warm up on the bike versus over dress and have to stop to take off layers. You have to power through that initial cold shock for the first 10 minutes. Then there's rain, and I don't think I've found a good solution for wet riding yet
I definitely lean towards starting out cold. I really don't want to seat especially if there are going to be any stops involved. Rain. Yeah - I try to avoid it. In the summer I just get wet as anything that keeps you dry would just make you wetter from sweat anyways. I rode two event last Fall in the rain and just wore a lot of wool since it can still insulate when wet.
Glad you are back Erin. Now we can keep our tradition of meeting on Wheeler Road at the Road Apple Roubaix! 😀
Good to see you backup and riding🎉🎉🎉
💯
Glad you're well and back on the iImoled screen.
Welcome back. Heres to many miles ahead.
💯
If you need the services of a bike fitter who specializes in injuries (curing, not causing), don’t hesitate to reach out.
Good to see Erin back on the bike.

I broke my ankle in 1995 and had 3 surgeries on it, last one was to fuse it. I also got it pinned. Walking was a problem for a while. Biking was hard for awhile. 2003 had lower back surgeries, 2 pins and 6 screws. Riding a bike I had neck issues, shoulder pain upper back pain, my wrist would go nub, lower back pain, real bad bruising between legs, and my Butt killed me ( I have like 20 different seats and none helped ).
Than I started seeing adds for Recumbent Bikes especially Trikes. I bought a cheap on that had pedals on the front wheel and with me big butt (270lbs) all I did was spin the front tire. Bought a Tadpole Trike and it was great but it bounced to much and rough ride. Than went and ordered a Catrike Dumont Trike from Catrike but had to go through a Bike Shop a hundred miles away. Sight Unseen was terrible because I put out 5,200 hundred for it. It finally it came in and I went to get it. My Catrike was one of first for the Bike Shop.
I fell in love with my Catrike Dumont, than I got MAC Disease and fought it for a year like 6 or 8 years ago. Than I am not fighting Pancreatic Cancer.
I bought a roller system for my Catrike and since the Whiffel Surgery ( spent 3 months in the hospital) and doing Chemotherapy now but pedaling my Catrike for 40 to now 50 minutes per day.
But with the Catrike Dumont I'm like sitting in a chair so no more butt hurt, no more neck pains, or shoulder pain, with the wrist pain because of the wrist supports. Also no more balance issues.
Wow! What a journey! You are a surviver and a badass!
No ride for 3 months? I used to live on the beach in the midst of a huge surf community. When it was flat the surfers would be all bummed and mopey. It was shocking how affected emotionally they were especially when it was an extended stretch. If I couldn’t ride for 3 months I imagine the toll would be equal to how those surfers felt. It’s just what we do. Build back slowly and don’t take any pedal stroke for granted. Enjoy.
It was definitely a bummer and mood-effecting - I don't think she would mind me saying. I know how I feel when I can't get out for a few days.
Cheers!
Glad to see you both riding together again!! 👏
I am not a bike fitter. Just looks like your saddle height is too low.Could be why there are hip issues? Good to see you are back in the saddle!
She raised it today because of the boots. So hopefully it helped(this vid was shot on Saturday)
Welcome back Erin! We needed you!
Welcome back, Erin!! Love to see you two riding the trails again.
📣WOOP…WOOP! 📣 So pump to see you back on two wheels. 😊
I've always found it interesting how Erin casually rides in the drops all the time. I must have my seat a lot higher, because I find it somewhat uncomfortable! Maybe too personal, but as a fellow female cyclist, I'm curious what her age is? I went two weeks without riding recently, and it hit me like a ton of bricks!
She is insanely flexible - she was riding in the drops right when she got into cycling on a vintage road bike. You definitely want your saddle set for you leg length not the reach to drops. You can either bump up your bars or get a shorter stem though. She is mid-40s.
Welcome back Erin. Title/thumbnail worked. 😅
Nice!
💗
Welcome back Erin! Tim has a Key Lime Green puffy he wants to trade for your black and pink one😂. And get back on that mountain bike.
😅
Broke my arm a few years ago and it took me at least 5 months to fully recover. Good to see you back on the saddle Erin.
Dang! Longtime - every injury is so different.
Cheers!
@@TimFitzwater never underestimate a slick surface especially when you're going downhill
I broke the outer bone in my ankle in 2009. Had surgery 2 days later, no cast or splint and started walking on it as soon as I dared. Sounds like my break wasn't as bad as Erin's.
I think the real problem was that she broke it in two places.
Yay! Go Erin. I did my first group ride in city traffic. I’m not sure I’m a fan but adds to skill set.
Nice!
Glad your back 😊
This makes me happy
👱🏻
🎶🎵 I'm back!
🎶🎵 I'm back in the saddle again.
🎷 🎸
Looking good Erin. You two are adorable
🥰
Glad you’re back, and I bet Tim’s glad to be riding with you again too!
I am!
It’s good to see Erin back. I can totally relate to her. I’m getting over two operations on my right foot.
Hang in there!
