Before we delve into the stunning features of Castello di Capraia, let’s take a journey back in time to the epic battles between Florence and Siena. These two powerful city-states were locked in a fierce rivalry during the Middle Ages, vying for dominance in the Tuscan region. The wars between Florence and Siena, known as the Guelph and Ghibelline conflicts, were a series of bloody skirmishes and strategic maneuvers that shaped the political landscape of Italy.
Florence, aligned with the Papacy and known as the Guelphs, sought to expand its influence over the surrounding territories. Siena, on the other hand, was a staunch Ghibelline supporter, backing the Holy Roman Emperor.
Castello di Capraia played a crucial role during these tumultuous times. Strategically positioned as a lookout and granary, it served as a vital part of Siena’s defenses. Imagine the hustle and bustle of soldiers preparing for battle, the clanging of armor, and the tense anticipation that filled these ancient halls!
Today, Castello di Capraia stands as a testament to this storied past, offering a unique blend of historical charm and modern luxury. As we tour this moderately renovated fortress, you’ll discover four floors of exquisite living space. Each room tells a story, from the grand dining hall to the cozy bedrooms, all boasting breathtaking forever views of the Tuscan countryside.
Whether you're dreaming of a serene country retreat or a historical home with character, Castello di Capraia has it all. Picture yourself waking up to the sun rising over the rolling hills, sipping your morning coffee on the terrace, and feeling the echoes of history in every stone.
Join us on this extraordinary tour and see for yourself why Castello di Capraia is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a piece of Italian history. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more incredible property tours and historical explorations!

You can almost sense the people running around up and down the stairs during an ancient siege.
Screaming and yelling for their lives! Must have been a brutal time... Very tranquil now however...
What a fabulous medieval castle! Anywhere else and it would be a museum - along with its contents. It deserves an owner who appreciates its history and splendour. Thank you for this tour.
You are welcome! - BRAD
Whoever buys this becomes a caretaker not a owner. It would be like owning a Frank L Wright home
What an overwhelming place. Amazing for someone with the vision and resources to give this place the makeover it deserves.
Part of me wants a big project again like I did for 25 years in the states. I could work this over one room at a time (bathrooms all at once of course) and turn it back into a masterpiece.
An elevator for 3floors in this beautiful castle 🏰 is an eyesore 😒 Gorgeous 🏰
In a space like this consideration should be given to the disabled.
@Kim... I agree with you. No elevator
Not if done correctly, you wouldn’t know it was there plus to make it practical, necessary
I think caretaker was just being thorough with his comments and knowledge. Nobody would put one in. The floors were offset at each level with even more stairs between levels so the gain from a lift would be minimal. Sad but some places are just not going to be ADA compliant.
It would be fascinating to read a history of this castle, and the battle for sienna. So much history. You know there are ghosts.
Google Battle of siena 1650. Interesting.
You've outdone yourself Brad. This is effing amazing!!!!
Twas a good one! Thanks for noticing!
Really enjoyed the look around the castle. Interesting with all mod cons.
Big project still but good bones and no running new water etc...
I enjoy seeing large old buildings in Italy even if they are much more than I need. I really do like the huge lounges with chandeliers...great for entertaining.
If I was to be a queen for the day this would be my castle. Absolutely stunning! I love all the original floors, the high ceilings, those fireplaces, the ancient artefacts and that rooftop view Wow! Thank you for sharing this video.
This one is my favorite ❤of all your tours . If I had that kind of money 💰 id buy it castles 🏰 from 900-1500 are the prettiest ❤😊
since all the bathrooms work and the kitchen was already commercial, I bet you could do a lot of reno on this for not a lot of money. The ONLY thing is access. Those steps up and down were killer, and some were almost twice the height of regular steps.
Oh, to own a piece of history like this! Fabulous tour! I do enjoy your tours of these interesting properties, as well as all the others which I can afford.
Good. I got a bunch of new properties to film this week. I think you will like a lot of these too. Down south of Rome and big properties.
Definitely a beautiful property. Glad that you are taking the trouble to show us such a ‘historical’ property. 👍
Not a problem for me! I love seeing interesting new properties. I never wanted my channel to be just a real estate showing service. I like seeing the new places and showing the new towns and giving people options to think about.
Hi neighbor over there in your castle 🙋🏽♀️ Man, I wish! Thank you for letting me glimpse these amazing cornerstones that I would otherwise never peep out. I love this. Hope Olie is feeling better (and you too).
She is! We both are. 10 days!! It was a real sick fest! Oh well…. Life happens!
Fantastic! Thanks for showing this.
Our pleasure! It was a really neat place. Would make one hell of a house if you could deal with the stairs!
Awesome. Keep doing what you are doing. It is appreciated.
That means a lot to me. Thanks! BRAD
So much history there! You are so fortunate!
I am. Be open and the world will open up to you!!
Ciao Brad, I just found your channel, the 1,000-year-old castle is my first one. My Boyfriend and I are looking to retire in Italy, I am doing my homework now on that. I am very happy that I found your channel. I am also researching the area's both are families are from Sicily and his is also from Abruzzo, mine Napoli. I am subscribed and looking forward to next week's video and going back and playing catch-up. Thank you for sharing the Castle with us.
You are welcome! And welcome to the party!! 🥳🥳
Thank you..great video as always
Thanks for the shoutout!! I love making them because so many people like watching them. It is a pleasure for me to do it. Thanks again!
I love rustic places, but even this is stretching my tolerance for rustic!
It’s that 1,000 year old vibe! Cool place.
@@BradsWorld We’ll get Joanne Gaines in there to put up some ship lap!
Thank you so much for sharing this spectacular piece of history Brad.
When they are this special it is really a treat for me to show them off...! BRAD
Brad, this is truly fabulous, a real country retreat, and phenomenal views, the most interesting video so far. Thanks for the tour.
Thanks for that. It's a labor of love so I am glad everyone is getting something positive out of it.
I love your videos!!!
Thanks!
My dream place!
I love these videos!
Thank you for saying so! I try really hard to make videos that not only walk you through a property but give some historical context too! Thanks for the kind words! I will keep it up!
It’s amazing to watch your vids in real time! More interesting than those who show website photos or talk for hours. So, Thank you!
You are welcome! I am not a fan of the screenshot tours either. I think it is something of a disservice. I tried doing one and the main problem is that you can only show what they wanted you to see at the listing side because they took the photos. You can make anything look decent with the right lighting and angles... You have no idea of scale in the photos so you can't really tell how big a room is. Anyway, I prefer to put in the hours and driving and go see neat stuff in person and I thank you for your appreciating that! -BRAD
Most UK Residents think in Imperial measurements still
No Kidding! I just thought it was us Americans (and Burmese...!)
Yes it is out of my league Brad. But you are completely on the mark about this place being well worth a look. And your efforts are much appreciated. Thanks so much. Adds to my cup.
Glad you enjoyed it
This sounds interesting!
So beautiful! 💕💕💕💕
Thank you! Cheers!
These castle tours are my favorite... in the words of Oliver Twist, "More please, sir" lol
You got it...!
Absolutely stunning🍷🇮🇹
It was a neat one alright!
Brad, you Should buy this one! 😊
Beautiful place!
Don't tempt me! I liked it.
WOW WOW WOW 🤩 What an unbelievable castle. If I only had the money and a number of hired hands to keep it up 👍
You and me both! Too bad you don't have a big extended family to import to do the work.
I really appreciate you showing this castle. You're right of course about many not being in the market for something like this but as for me, I'm in the market and that's why I watch you. Retirement is just a few years off in my case but I'd like to find something before my retirement date.
Glad you enjoyed it. Get with Paolo the agent and find what’s right for you!!
❤❤❤❤ just BEAUTIFUL
I look forward to talking to Palo
He is a great guy!! No matter what you are looking for.
Your doing great
Thank you. Always glad to hear that. I put it out there and you never know... Will people like it or not.
wow.
WOW that was cool! Your TX home must be in the Hill Country in Austin!
It is. Overlooking lake Travis. Beautiful. But not in Italy and 100° all summer and so many people moving out there. And the property tax. $2000/mo!
I’m just a retired guy now, gotta watch the expenses!
@@BradsWorld I'm in Missouri but used to date a guy from Austin near Hill Country. Eons ago now. Italy sounds much better for sure! Enjoy you and your wife's videos. Hope you both feel better! Thank you
You wouldn't catch me there after dark. What a frightening property😟
Floating heads and armor walking around on its own…! I hear you!
Grazie! I do enjoy seeing special properties like this. Hopefully someone with vision and sufficient funds will bring this castle back to life. The spouse and I have stayed in two castles in Italy -- Castel Pergine in Trentino. And Montegufoni near Firenze. Both were memorable, wonderful stays. And, yes, the prices in Italy are simply mind boggling low compared to where I live...Maui. Cinder block homes on 8k sq ft lots built in the 50s selling for at least a million. Whacko. Looking forward to more of your videos!
I used to spend so much time in Maui in the mid 80's! Stayed up in Haleakala. The flowers, the views... Such a great time.
Glad you like the videos and I will keep making neat ones! Enjoy the island for me a little bit today. Little sun and spam for Brad please!
Mahalo 🌺🌈
Australia is the worst country in the world for cost of housing - in any of the capital cities like Sydney,Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra you literally have to fork out $millions for a basic cottage!
Wishing your wife a fast recovery
Thanks. We about 100% now.
I’m watching 🙋🏻♀️ this whole thing! It’s awesome!
(And, I ❤ the 🎹)
I totally get it. I live in NYC and you pay this for a 1 bedroom apt. Crazy!!
I just had a 750 sq ft apartment in Manhattan show up on my advertising feed. $1.8 Million! Acck!!!
@@BradsWorld crazy, right?
OH!MY!GAWD! 😍
YEP!! 😅🥳
What’s the story with syndications in Italy? Maybe that should be your next gig. Get a group of like-minded viewers together and purchase a Castle.
❤❤❤ great idea!
I only have a few years left...! 🤣🤣 I don't want to open that can of worms but maybe a family group. Or even better Idea: If I had a medium sized company that allowed some remote work, what a great idea to spend a few million and have a set place for groups to come in and do collaborations among departments, or as a perk for a special team that did well. Little satellite Internet and this place would be fabulous.
Gorgeous, Brad! Another amazing video! You never cease to amaze. Who is the realtor for this gem? Who can we contact to get more info? Thanks again, you and your channel, captivate, always!
Thanks!!

I am going out to buy a lotto ticket!
Actually, we are kind of looking for a castle. And we love Siena! :)
Well here you go! It was only like 25 mins back into town proper!
Now that is an Italian property!! A must have. Imagine what that would cost in the UK or the US. Wow
Many many millions!
Lindo!🇧🇷🇧🇷
Si! Muy lindo!
I live 50 miles inland of LA. A 4,000 square foot stucco box costs $1.5M. Or a condo 1 block from any beach.
LA be Crazy!
@@BradsWorld It’s not as bad as Mountain View. $3M for a 800 sq ft bungalow. $6 to $7M for an average middle class house.
For those who wonder about the price, its around £1'268'000.
Yeah…. It’s in the thumbnail you pressed to watch the video and in the first 30 seconds of the house tour when I start talking along with all the basic details.
Hell I'd love to have something like that but that's way out of my price range.
Does it come with land around it? So lovely!
Yes, a hectare. 10,000 sq meters +-.
We were going to film the land and all the outbuildings but the caretaker got an emergency phone call from his son at hospital in Siena and we had to split! The son was OK BTW. Just a false alarm on heart attack! 🤨😅
"the proportions of these rooms is ginormous"!. Is that metric or imperial?😊
Bradial!
Fantastic place ❤
You didn’t show the basement or the surroundings ?
Does it come with more buildings and land ?
Yes it did. 10,000 of land (1 hectare). And some old outbuildings.
Sorry I couldn't film it but caretakers son was calling from ER in Siena and we all had to split! He was OK in the end. Caretaker was 85! The son was in his 50's with chest pains...! tour was long enough! That castle was something to be going up and down in. You guys only see a straight walk through when i am done editing. We walk the whole property one time before I even start filming. Then sometimes do a section 2-3 times... I try to get it all in everytime but...!
The spiral stair is most likely the original stair in the original fortified “tower”
You are probably correct! Lots to catch very quickly when you are touring these for an hour and trying to take it all in.
I missed where the price was shown for this castle... anyone able to tell me what the euros price is please? 😮
1.5 million
@godscountryhomestead1177 thank you for the info. 🙏
I always try to get it on my Thumbnails on the Italian flag. And usually with the first 1 minute of when the tour actually starts (after any pre-info stuff I am talking about).
Could you please add information such as how much land goes in the price, outgoings per year such as taxes etc., water supply, storage etc.
I could. I’ll start adding the listings. The person like breaking up the tour with 100 different points of information. If people are really serious to agent can provide all of that. Most people are watching these videos to get a sense of what’s available.
Things like property tax, the answer is always the same: zero! There is no property tax in Italy called I am you, if it’s your primary resident even if you’re not a citizen and you’re just a resident. Things like water usage and run place varies substantially by users.
Brilliant property. Dream home. How touchy are the Italian heritage when it comes to properties like these? In England these institutions would be over you like a rash making demands to return things to original (thinking the commercial kitchen here) or preventing you installing that elevator because it’s not ‘historic’ ? English heritage do nothing on their own, just let buildings crumble but the moment someone buys something they stick their noses in and start making all sorts of demands. It’s why people in England are extremely wary of properties that have a historic grade listing.
Well, it wasn’t any problem to put the commercial kitchen in. I don’t think an elevator would help in this case anyway and wouldn’t bother. They’re small sets of steps between the two sides of the castle anyway, so if you did get someone in a wheelchair up to one level they wouldn’t be able to move beyond that level to the other side of the house. It’s just not Wheelchair accessible or even difficulty accessible.
Frankly, even though I’m very mobile, it was still difficult. The steps are very random in their height, nothing uniform at all.
Do all fire places work or are they sealed up
Not sure about everyone single one.
>gasp
A really nice castle. Would have loved to see more from inside. 800m2 isn't that big, but the property taxes could be pretty high considering it is a historical castle, or actually a defence fort.
Pretty much money needed to put it "back" so to say, get rid of many bathrooms and those horrible newer walls. And that extremely ugly kitchen. Then new electricity, maybe those windows, which seemed to be pretty bad... Then also try to get back those original doors. I know much old stuff has been sold during the years, but still. The main problem is, as always, that terribly complicated and slow bureaucracy, which is in all Mediterranean countries.
A lot of beautiful old furniture, and chandeliers, they should all remain here.
Wonder who owns it now, if private, why do they sell?
How much land comes with this property? Or is it only the castle and the terrace?
When buying something like this, there are so many questions already about the construction itself.
Hmm.. could actually be a nice home. Little different, but very cool.
800MQ not that big!?! Ack! You need to come and walk one of these tours with me. Up and down those stairs... Seemed gigantic to me!
If you buy that, are you allowed to start conquering italy?
Yes! And Maybe France…
Yes, the USA uses American/U.S. Standard measurement - the country that went to the moon - repeatedly. Whereas all the countries that have not, and will not, use metric. 😉
Imagine where we could have gone with metric!!
Whats the price brad?
I always put it in the thumbnail that you click on the watch the video and also the first 30 seconds of the property tour… It says €1.5 million.
It’s a neat place!
How many hectares of property come with this?
Checking! If forgot about that. Look for it to show up in the description. And the listing when it is ready!
@@BradsWorld I might have missed it but want some reasonable grounds and if any outbuildings. Where would we see a complete listing? Thank you sorry y’all were ill
How much is it?
I always put the price in the thumbnail inside the Italian flag and also in the first 20 seconds of the actual tour when inside the house in big read letters... €1.5000.000!
Not sure you said the price
Very beginning of video $1.500.000 Euros
@@michelebedard2226 thank you
Also in the Thumbnail of the video you click on to see it. I try to always put it there.
Who owns it?
A private party
How well would this fortress fare if under siege by the tax authorities? Asking for a friend 🤣
I imagine pretty well! 🤠🤠
And spend several million and 20 years restoring it.....Nope.. pile of rocks.
Ok yoda! Thanks for the comment. 😬
Amazingly beautiful
It was a very nice surprise to get to film it!
Stai facendo un ottimo lavoro Complimenti continua così 😊
Grazie mille!! ☺️
