Wow! Going through yours, i realized i have been using planners for a long time also. Years ago i had used Day Timer 3 ring notebook planners while i was an administrative assistant or a general manager. When i quit babysitting adults for a living and went into retail for several years - i didnt need one as much. Then several years ago in 2019 i started up again with a medical journal for a son and still do. So in all- probably 30+ years. Now i use the happy planner systems. 1 for me and 1 for my son. ⚾️
Crazy isn't it how much time has gone by, when we think stop and think about it. I worked in retail for about 7 years and yep I didn't use a planner much then either. 😊
I've been planning in various ways for 20 ys +! From a spiral notebook to tools for wisdom to other stuff. Finally found happy planner in 2022. So in other words been there done that! Although you are WAY more creative than myself in your other projects...Thanks for the time warp!!
hahah isn't it funny to look back and realize all the time has passed by and it feels like it's zipped by. I think back to filofaxes and the 6 ring franklen planners I used in the UK.. wish I still had those, but couldn't justify shipping stuff I wasn't using.
Wow that is a great trip down memory lane. For the most part I have been planning in some fashion off and on since the early 90’s. I used my planner faithfully when I went back to College, we could actually get them from the college. After college I used my planner for work and just very functionally. Then work ended, so I stopped for a couple of years, then got obsessed with happy planner, dipped my toe into making my own, loved that, thought I’d try a real planner, loved it, but really got more out of making my own, so from 2020 when I bought my first happy planners then from 2021 on I’ve been making my own.
yep it was fun to look back on the planners from my time in the US. I had a ton of books in UK that I didn't ship over. Crazy how time flies! Love that you make your own planner pages Ruth!!!
@ right! I never thought about what you wouldn’t have brought from the UK! I also make most of my own covers and dividers too. There is something about using a planner that you have made in your own. I’ve don’t one for both of my daughters-in-law as well. One loves and uses hers and the other one is loves the pretty, just lacks the drive to use it.
thanks Emily! Figured it was about time I shared some history on this channel. I really wish I still had my OLD planners from when I lived in the UK but I couldn't justify shipping ALL the stuff 😊
I have been dappling in planning back when I was i high school. Never really got serious about planning til I found the happy planner in 2015. Been a planner babe from the beginning.
Yep I planned way back then too! Seems so long ago now. But I didn't ship those over when I moved from the UK. Heck I had so many journals and scrapbooks too!
I've been altering composition notebooks all my life basically, as my mom did it for us since we started school for our school notebooks to be of whatever we wanted. I've always used magazines, newspapers, construction paper, stickers, postcards and pretty papers to do notebooks for school on a budget and exactly as I want them. I now do it for my kids❤
Oh wow, this brought back so many memories for me. Our journey is almost the same, the only difference I think is I started back when I was like 8 years old or so (I'm now 60) keeping a planner/calendar/journal/diary combo, which has evolved over the years. I used to use spiral notebooks when I started, but the progression into the composition, 3 ring binder, bullet journal (I still have these), happy planner, and I did the Day Timer for a while. I even had a system I had created, that is so very similar to Ryder Carroll's only he had the brilliance of turning the idea into a business. I discovered the Happy Planner in 2020, I had already been using their stickers. But for the last 4 years I'm loving the disc bound system for the versatility. I can add or take away sections, create my own pages, and just really customize it the way I like. I'm getting my 2025 system figured out with different layouts and sections, this is probably the most fun time of the year. Thanks for creating your videos, I love your ideas and your energy is great.
Oh trust me I had more journals and diaries. It's just when we moved to the USA I didn;t want to ship everything with me. Too expensive. But yep I've been keeping a journal in some form since I was a child. I'm with ya, I love the versatility of the discs, just so easy to make your own pages, move them around.
I just went though my planners and looks like I started in 2017. And it was the big happy planner that my daughter gifted me for Christmas that year. Since then every year we go to Michael’s to pick up the next years planners. And I use the classic. I’ve tried others but this one works best for me.🎉🎉🎉 Great content Di ❤❤
I’ve been planning for a couple of decades too. Mostly in inexpensive loop planners that were mostly functional. I used to paycheck budget in a monthly spread of my planner with each paycheck budgeted in the sidebar. VERY basic but it worked. I doubt I ever paid more than $5 for a planner back in the day. I started with Happy Planner in 2020 and really liked the customization of it so I just stayed with it.
I'm with ya! Making do with what I had was the name of the game for MANY years. And you know I don't buy full price unless absolutely necessary 😊 Like you, once I went discbound I just fell in love!
I started using a planner/calendar in High school. It was normally a Sierra Club weekly calendar that I put stickers in for special events. It was a way to keep track of my assignments and after-school activities. After getting my first Computer, I started printing monthly calendars to go with my weekly Sierra Club calendars. I love the pictures in the Sierra Club calendar. When I discovered wicca I switched my Sierra Club out for the witches agenda calendar. I stopped when I got my first cell phone. That had a calendar feature. Until July of 2022 when my birthday came around and I realized I could not really remember anything from the previous year. I logged appointments on my phone but nothing else. I stopped journaling/Noteing anything else down and had gone into autopilot mode. Just work and home living day to day. I got a birthday present of $100 visa card that year and decicd to get another planner/journal. I started looking and discovered HP classic. Discoved UA-cam planners You, Di and Reniee. I am not doing a modified Bullet journalling in a classic size disc planner. Christina 🦝
It's so interesting how your planning journey evolved! Mine is pretty similar Christina! I did TONS of scrapbooking and planning, then started using my phone and had the same realization. Where did the time go and what happened. Plus I had photos to look back on but no details/stories to go with them!

Exactly! We did the same in school. Covered the books with papers, and stickers. So fun!!

They really are a little trip down memory lane!
