If you look up the history of Dellwood Park it had a fabulous, fabulous history back in the 1930s and before. The dam functioned and there was a lake with a boat house. I think the boat house burned down some time around WW2 and I think it was said that because of the war, somehow, they just never rebuilt the boat house.
My question is WHY???? Why NOT rebuild the boat house? And why drain the lake? When I was a kid in the 1960s we used to go snow sledding down the steep sides of the drained lake. We called it a gully. There used to be a fabulous concrete arch bridge over the gully. Not sure if it's still there. There also used to be a smaller dam on the other end of the lake. (gully) There was a grassy area on one end of the park adjacent to a parking lot......the east end? And they would flood it in Winter to make a skating rink, tree roots and all. But it had a warming house ! We'd skate until we turned blue and our mothers came around in their cars looking for us.
