    WOW ! A very beautiful film ! Sort of a time machine back to 1954. Where the children and parents were well-dressed as if going to church and not just an outing. Also, the parking lot is filled with vintage cars, which we were proud to own, clean and wax every week. Detroit's best ! In addition, the Kiddieland Park was out in the country at this time. Urban development and sprawl would occur latter in the 60's ! I want to go back to these times ! Thanks for posting !

      Amen Brother! America of the 1950's was the ideal America, in my view. Industry was booming, employers and employees were doing very well financially. America was the unquestioned Super Power and most diverse and powerful industrial power on earth! I pray that now that President Trump is in Office we will again be that Shining City on the Hill! 🧡

    Fifty-five years later, Kiddieland would disappear from the eyes of many Chicagoans!

    Your film quality is fantastic! Kiddieland was not only a great place to visit for the rides, it was also became the place for my first work experience and the catalyst for my work profession in the food business. As it turned out, while “working” the boat ride, I was called in to assist one of the guys to help pour in the heated mixture to make caramel corn. When one of the owners saw me in the midst of the effort, he said I was no longer going to collect tickets, but was going to work in that Popcorn stand. I did for 5 seasons.
    Interesting note on the Diesel engine, it was lettered as Chicago and Northwestern. When I worked there in the late 60s it was lettered as Kiddieland Limited. And the site of the pony rides were replaced with the Scooter Ride, Tilt a Whirl and Carousel rides.

    I remember when I was a kid I loved going to Kiddieland and the train ride!! Remember seeing a Soo Line freight train with a caboose tacked on the end. When caboose were in style. Have a great day everyone.

      David Urban The Soo Line is now part of Canadian Pacific. Anyway, the Canadian National RR doesn't use the line by the Costco (ex-Kiddieland) anymore.

    Incredible! I went there when I was a kid and again near the end when they brought back one of their steam engines. There is a super short clip showing the steam engine and hand powered train carts that were my favorite to ride when I was a kid. Super quality film and color. Thanks for posting this!

    Okay this goes to all of us Chicagoans. Does anyone remember Hoot-n-Tootin Railroad? I believe it was in Elgin on Lake Street. It went about a mile back in the woods it was pulled by a 4-4-0 steam engine the cars were enclosed really nice ride. Does anyone remember that? Have a great day everyone.

      My dad took me there when I was very young. Look up the Wisconsin Dells live steam site on Facebook.Riverside and Great Northern I think it is called. Search through their posts. They have posted numerous photos and history information on the Hoot-n-Toot railroad. I have a photo or two of me at the miniature railroad.

      I was born in 54 and lived in Medinah off of Lake street.. And my parents were great at taking us kids (4) to all sorts of things. I remember the one you are talking about.
      There was one other train ride that went around a drive-in, west of the city. I left Chicago in 1968.

    I was born in 1954. Perfect timing. I remember a ride for really little kids where you sat on a seat and you propelled yourself by turning the handles. Was there a different section of kiddie land for really little kids ?

    • @johnmeyer77
      @johnmeyer77  3 роки тому

      I was born in '52 and lived only three miles away. I remember the hand carts. No, there wasn't a separate section just for tots, although most of the rides were oriented towards the 12 and under crowd. Not much for teenagers.

      @@johnmeyer77 we moved from Villa Park/Addison area out to Bloomingdale/Medinah. I would have gone to lake Park H. S. but left in 68 for Az.
      AdventureLand was about 3 miles away, so My buddy Jimmy and I would be found there on many weekends.
